There must be a cap on how much a rookie can get paid. ( Clarify anyone?) Otherwise you would park C
Correct, a rookie can only be paid 85k base and 5k per senior game played to prevent gaming the system. If we could park McGovern and Williams on there it would be quite handy from a cap perspective along with every other club in the league. That's what it was pre covid, assume it's the same might be a tick less.
My understanding is that you can pay them what you want but there are minimums. Upto 80k can be outside of cap per player.

So if Betts (made up numbers) is on $380k, then $300k would be in our cap.

I think it was more younger players seeing 2022 as a wasted year with major changes to strategy and game plan put off until after Clarko left.

That could be the case, if they know things are going to change then they may just be less interested.

I think though with Hawthorn, it's hard to see their list being overly good. They are down the bottom, they offloaded a heap of their old brigade before they were done so that old Hawthorn culture and leadership has probably been severed and has failed to pass down to the current generation. They are bereft of high draft picks and elite talented young players. They have some quality mature aged recruits and some reasonable later picks coming on but their list is nowhere near as talented as ours. I think there is a lot missing at the current Hawthorn. I think players not getting on with the coach can be an excuse for a poor playing list and poor leadership within that team.

Clarkson would know all this, he's probably not interested in a list like this. He was fortunate going to Hawthorn at a time when they had a mountain of young superstars starting out their careers and a lot of high draft picks, they rebuilt that list like crazy through the top end of some really strong drafts and they had enormous upside. Carlton aren't that dissimilar, we have a lot of young start starting to really get going and a core of super talented players. We just lack some leadership, direction and the finishing pieces. I can see us being very appealing to someone like him.

So where we are at is not that different to where Hawthorn were at, we are a little more advanced so even better. Hawthorn where they are at not IMO is well behind where they were at when Clarkson got there.

So you can see that there is a list of players who aren't overly excited about what they are currently doing now if they are aware that will change as you have said and you can also see that there is a fairly poor list lacking youngsters taken in the sweet end of the draft who may frustrate the coach who expects and demands more of them and they are getting frustrated themselves by being pushed.

Ahh ok, if that is the case then you could move Ed for example out and park him on the Rookie list. Gives a bit more flexibility for managing the main list and having break glass if needed options

Have to get this off my chest
Something is seriously wrong with this club Coast were shellacked last week by over 90 points .
We were in our backyard
What the hell is going on with our club
I hope sayer can fix this mess and Royal blue is on the money

“it’s always darkest before the dawn.”

truly!

The external review is comprehensive, it is not like West Coast’s “review every 2 years“. It has been much more far reaching.

It is football department based because, though some don’t like it, Liddle leads the club very well commercially.

Culturally, as we’ve continually seen, the football realm is bereft of maturity, surety and a hard competitive edge.

So, a new broom will come- and build a culture as well as coaching.

Too many good tactical coaches and/or good mentors are keen to come to Carlton for things not to change.

It is tough regarding David Teague, he seems a good man but clearly the head coaching role is too big for him. As it’s unlikely that he’ll ever coach a senior team and he’s contracted, he’ll hang on until sacked. Clarkson saying ‘yes’ may make it easier to rationalise, but Lyon will most likely coach the club if not.

Players need to own their bit too. Too many passengers.

True and they probably do. Players drafted into an AFL club (such as Carlton) also deserve to be developed professionally, competitively and maturely (and they haven’t been). Coaching structures and plans should inspire and direct towards success (and that is lacking).

We had to let our assistant know by Aug 1 if they were to be retained. Anyone have any info on this?

wouldn’t be suprised if all but Power are replaced
I thought i read we would get an extension of the 01 Aug deadline due to the review being conducted.
