Maybe you should read what I’m saying, did I suggest that? Oliver is better than Setterfield, Williams and Saad are way better than anything we’ve got.

the suggest I make is Setterfield being pushed out, is different from a Dow being pushed out, Setterfield is starting to show he is a consisting performer, so would expect to be in the starting 22.

Bloody hell, I raise a question on where that leaves him in the 22, your response is I’m suggesting they shouldn’t get anyone 🙄

For the record, if Oliver is available you get him.
All good buddy. 👍
In all seriousness the simple answer is he'd be one spot further down the pecking order. Probably still gets plenty of games especially if he keeps improving.

It is much more possible than some might think that both Wines and Oliver are very keen on coming to Carlton.

We can’t accommodate or trade for both; so there are sensitivities in negotiations and timing. Saad has complicated this (in a good way I think).

If the club could pick only one, who would be better of the two?

The Oliver camp has been on the front foot recently while Port are still in finals.

Oliver every day of the week.

IMO I’d go Oliver rb

Tim Watson's point makes no sense. He's worth a first round pick so we have to give up 7 because that's our first round pick. So if Saad was going to Adelaide I'm assuming they would just have to give up pick 1 because thats the only first rounder they have - ridiculous. Saad's value is a mid to late first rounder (13-17ish). 7 alone would be overs imo.

In fairness to Tim, he was basically saying Saad is worth a first round pick - which for us is currently Pick #7.

Garry then said 'what if they split with Geelong' - Tim said something like that would be a different story.

Cripps won a best and fairest in just his second season

Oliver won a best and fairest in just his second season

Walsh is probably about to win a best and fairest in just his second season

We could have all three playing for us in 2021!!!

(and Rowell will probably win a best and fairest in his second season and... )

Wines is the classier player and more complete because he a big unit and is a good set shot.
Oliver has mongrel in him a serious week in week out competitor.

Either would be huge for us.

I'm trying not to get too excited...

Tough choice, maybe Oliver for me but would be happy with either.

There would be a Yarra river of tears & World record dummy spits from * & Collingwood supporters if we jagged Williams, Saad & one of those two.

What’s interesting is a) both from same school and b) Wines and Viney are best friends and c) Viney and Oliver don’t get along

p.s. I would pick Oliver as he’s shown more and hasn’t reached his peak yet

Absolute gun whose career was tragically cut short due to a back injury.

Would have won at least another premiership in the 90's had he been able to play.

Fully supportive of targeting Phillips' nephew, if only to see Andy inevitably (hopefully?) featured in a club article, and photographed back at Princes Park with Tom.

Andy's back injury was cruel - was really starting to make his mark, and was one of the league's most underrated players at the time, I reckon. The photograph of him in tears, being comforted by Peter Dean, while telling the rest of the playing group that it was over, still haunts me.

(yes, that's Andy about to kick another one with his trusty left boot in my avatar over there... so I'm a little biased, admittedly)

Oliver. He's the better footballer and he's 3 years younger. But I just can't get my head around the Oliver talk and feel Wines is far more likely of the two to move.

Realistically though we would be rapt with either.

Weitering will win the BnF but exciting nonetheless!

Ok I just realized something... there’s a lot of stuff online about Viney and Wines being best friends since childhood... and the demons letting go of Oliver doesn’t make sense except apparently Viney and Oliver don’t get along ... and we know that Wines didn’t get along with his coach last year and previously and he was dumped as captain... so what if Viney has convinced Wines to come in and hence show the Demons management that they don’t need Oliver any more...

So Demons replace Oliver with Wines and Port replace Wines with Crouch and we get Oliver

I like your logic - if it happened might cost us less than a straight swap.

If Saad entered this year's ND... which club in their right mind would draft him with pick 7?

I'd be ropeable if we did that... he'd still be there by the time it reaches our second rounder...
Id do it well before handing it over to essendon for him.

If the personality differences are what you point to - it makes some sense.
It also suggests that even in the absence of Wines - Oliver is a chance to nominate Carlton.

Will be interesting to see what Oliver says.

Saad will go to the PSD if we are a chance for Oliver or Wines - Essendon define themselves by 'winning' trade week - even if they lose.
Pick #7 as part of getting Oliver or Wines on board is too valuable to involve Essendon in discussions about.
It may well be that Austin and Co don't have much more to say to Dodoro.
