The coaching reports had everyone playing well. "Developing" is generally code for "poor but hopefully getting better".

When a player gets taken late in the draft, you'd expect that they'd need to work much harder than the high draft picks to forge a career. I'm not convinced BSOS had that attitude. Seemed happy enough just to be on the list and have the "developing tall" tag to buy him some time. If he had the same work ethic as a Cottrell or Williamson or Polson, or even his brother, he'd likely still be on the list.

Ignore the name, he was a project tall who clearly didn't look like he was pushing himself as far as he could.

1. You posit a 'true' meaning of what developing means
2. You then go one to make assumptions about 'work ethic' 'psychology' and relative measures you would have no inside knowledge about - referencing other players in other positions
3. You then repeat your own speculations as fact to conclude

To me it is just another Silvagni - exited. One more to go.

The pre-season alone shouldn't allow for conclusive judgement upon a player, but BSilvagni and Finbar showed very little.

There wasn't a single trait that stood out from either.
Honey & Phillips showed a lot more in their first than for anything the other guys showed up in their second.

I did say early this year that BSilvagni was hard to get a read on, as often he just didn't look like he wanted to be there.

The decision was made for footballing reasons, whether or not there may have been other factors.

The young kids coming through the system in Australia all laughed about SOS and said he was drafting his kids mates. Whether it was true or not, it's not good when the whole draft cohort was saying it freely every year.

I think people get caught up in the romance. I am willing to see what Austin can do. Looking good so far, a few big fish have committed and more want in.

If people think SOS is the messiah, I'd point them to the 2011 Draft

No offence to SOS, but he missed a few walk up starts. He didn't get Shiel across (at the time we all wanted him) and a few other things.

Let's see how Austin goes and forget the Silvagni name for a while

Are you basing this off a heap of VFL games you saw in his first year?

Benny competed well, he was up against some really good players. He had some good competitive efforts down back and rolled forward as well where he provided a target for us.

That's a neutral encouragement type report.

Benny was good, he competed pretty well in the air. He had to go to Tom McDonald for the majority of the game so he stood up against a very good AFL player. It was a good learning for him, and it’s a credit to Ben’s character that he went off with a shoulder injury but got it strapped up and came straight back on.

Slightly better. Tough opponent and he stood up well. Fought through injury.

It’s the best game I think I’ve seen Ben play. He’s been going well as a key defender over the last few weeks and this week was nothing different. I don’t think any of the key defenders got beaten in the air inside 50 and Ben was a contributor to that. We often had some quick ball movement from the opposition coming in and he was often the way standing under it and cleaning up, which he did for us.

Best game. Has been going well. Didn't get beaten in the air. Positioned well and cleaned up attacks. Great report.

Ben is stringing together some impressive games at the moment. Some of his one-on-one contested stuff, particularly in the air, has been fantastic. He either wins them or halves them for his teammates to clean up. He’s going really well and is using the ball pretty well too.

Ben was fantastic, it was one of the better games I’ve seen him play. He read the ball well and helped his teammates in defence. Last week, he played up forward but this week he played the whole game as a defender. He was one of our better backman on the day.

Fantastic. Read the ball well. One of our better defenders.s Great report.

Ben played a bit of everywhere: we started him forward. Our early planning was to change our talls around a bit but he competed well up forward, so we kept him there for the first half. He enjoyed it and competed well. When he had to go, he went.

Neutral report. Encouragement report.

Overall, it doesn't read like he wasn't developing.

I know we have Levi as a back up, but if we are serious about making finals, we need a back up/replacement KPD, whether Macreadie stays on the park or not

And please, don't mention Marchbank, who is only a 3rd tall

Plenty of second talls who look like they should be third talls these days.

And as always, improve the midfield pressure and the defenders don't need to beat a man one-on-one.

Emergency options aplenty in Marchy, Macreadie, Casboult, Plowman, Gov and JSOS. We can fashion something workable for a few games out of that mob if we have to. Is Payne or Ballenden instead of one of those players going to make a difference to our fortunes in 2021? Doubt it.

Happy to wait 12 months to see if Creads and Marchy can get through a season. If so, we're set. If not, 2021 sees the following out of contract: Brandon Zerk-Thatcher, Charlie Ballard, Ben McKay, Aliir Aliir (RFA), Tom McCartin, Jarrod Brander.

Those reports made pretty much every player sound like a superstar, I wouldn't read anything in to them.

Bailey seems to be going pretty well.

Yeah, but he plays for the Dogs. No David Rhys-Jones connection at that club.

A Liam Jones one though.

Not this again. You can clearly see a change in language between a good game and an average game. A sweeping 'makes every player sound like a superstar' is just not true.

It is true that they didn't say that a player was disappointing and didn't provide much in the way of negative feedback, but you can acknowledge he must have had some good weeks.

I could say the same about you needlessly bringing up the "Ben was delisted because of an agenda against SOS" thing. Just a pointless inflammatory post, it's been done to death.

Could Majak play ruck if necessary?

Possibly bring him in on minimum chips as DFA as cover for two positions?

On SM-N960F using BigFooty.com mobile app

That was my thoughts exactly. He is basically cover for any key position and a back up ruck. For a start, we will need someone like him in our twos. Yes, we can recruit him as a reserve top up only, but where is the incentive to come to us then, and how does that help with senior depth?

Could do worse.

Has anything been said about Majak Daw's future?

It's interesting, The Roar wrote an article a month ago, suggesting we should pick him up..

A Liam Jones one though.

And look what they did to the poor bastard! They're Team Smith, we're Team Jones.

It's the Montagues versus the Capulets I tells ya!

Yeah, not this again. It had just been said to me, and I had just replied.

I said it and then went on to show that he was making progress by referring to reports that were not generic every week. It is not often a KPD is delisted after one full reserves season and some scratch matches. Maybe he was vocal about his Dad's sacking? Maybe there are other reasons besides he was shit and never looked like making it?

I'm at least keeping an open mind based on evidence.

Why is this inflammatory to you anyway? It hasn't been done to death if I added more evidence to it, has it?

Sheesh, a whole lot of poetic license in his posts. Taking a player wish from different posters and making it seem like the board thinks it is getting every one of them.

Why do people attention seek so much?
It is the cancer that will eventually kill us all.

its just that small minority that gain pleasure from causing pain.

99% of us think it’s pathetic ... the other 1% derive orgasmic pleasure from it.

go figure

Yep! 2 years including one under Covid restrictions with only scratch matches for reserves ... for a young KPD, it's just ridiculous. They may claim he was never any good but there were some decent signs and some decent reports coming from the coach.

Someone at the club wanted him gone and removed SOS because of his COI a year earlier so it would easier to cut him, OR removed him because of SOS. The question marks over Jack make it even more suspicious.
Well the tell tale sign will be if he gets picked up be another team as d.f.a. suspect that it won't happen but could be wrong.

In a normal situation I'm confident he would have been given another year, I think the likelihood of reduced lists made keeping him on very difficult.

I agree with the wait and see on Austin, but 2011 wasn't a bad draft for GWS. Coniglio, Greene, Haynes, Adams, D Smith, Hoskin Elliot, Tomlinson, Buntine. Pretty sound.
