The Greek Freak - opinion or bluemour re 'players out the door'?

If they're going to ask for one of our big guns like Harry, Charlie, Walsh, Weiters, TDK, Jack etc - its a straight no. Wonder who they'd be happy to take if we - say - put 2 firsts on the table.

EFA
I'm thinking of players like SPS, Stocker, Kennedy

If the Oliver deal relies on the Saad deal (which looks likely to involve 7), will we have picks left to deal with Melbourne. Assuming they'd be asking for minimum 2 first rounders

We've got the currency to get both done. No doubt at all.

2019, St Kilda held 1x first round pick, 2x fourth round picks and 1x fifth round pick. Plus their future picks. That was it.

They'd already traded away their second and third rounders the year before.

They then traded in Hill, Ryder, Jones, Howard and Butler.

They had to lose Steven, Acres and Bruce along the way.

We've got our first, second and third rounders, plus our future picks. And we'd only be looking at Oliver and Saad. Should be able to get it done without losing more than one peripheral player.

Optimism?
The general tone of two threads is that its all over. Carlton are finished. Kaput. LOL.

Dressing room, first round next season
Teague...Well lads no point going out there tonight. SOS went on the radio.
Doch....Yes coach none of us have slept a wink since.
Cripps....It's so bothersome and Mr Liddle is a rotter.
Boys hear: thunk, thunk, thunk...

A rhythmic sound and look over to see Williams banging his head on wall in an almost catatonic state, muttering, "What have I done?" over and over again

Well, it's simple. Get Oliver done first, then talk to Dodoro with whatever resources you have left. State under no uncertain terms that you're still happy to see him go to another club via the PSD than you are to overpay, but you'll do your best to see Essendon's offer - if fair - is met.

And I still don't see how Oliver gets done without losing a KPP prospect. Melbourne don't need most of what we have, except for TDK, Harry or Charlie, and they'd be losing one of their best mids.

This is huge news. Oliver is incredible and only 23. Hopefully this actually ends up happening.

Curious to hear people's thoughts:

If you could only choose 1: Would you rather Saad via the PSD (retain our picks), or Oliver minus 1 (or 2) first rounders?
Oliver, with bells on.

Dropping this little nugget to shut down discussions. OR = Liddle confirmed.
At this point...who cares.
My heart feels weirdly peaceful and at ease seeing another rumour. It's like my cravings have been satisfied.
Anyone else feel the same way?
Sorry..no time to stop

Holy ****. Clayton Oliver + Cripps = the best clearance team in the competition, hands down!

Oliver is a freak, he is exactly what you think of when you think "Big bodied midfielder" he's a bull. In 2020, he was elite in the following categories:
Disposals (25)
Handballs (13.5)
Effective Disposals (17.7)
Contested Possesions (13.4)
Ground Ball Gets (9.1)
Clearances (6.5)
Centre Clearances (2.4)
Stoppage Clearances (4.1)
Score Launches (1.3)
Tackles (5.4)
Pressure Acts (23.4!!!)

He's also 11th in the AFL Player ratings, Cripps is 9th. This is huge. More important than Williams and Saad.

Can't help but think that Melbourne are prepared to let this happen because their demand will be Harry McKay or GTFO
Melbourne don't lose. They either hold a gun midfielder to his contract, or get exactly the profile of player they are lacking.
Picks aren't gonna get this done. And I think we are kidding ourselves to think any combination of SPS, Dow, Stocker gets it done either

Exactly what truth do you think will come about playing a tit for tat game?
What sort of organisation do you think we should portray ourselves as? Are you even thinking this through or just playing the strawman?

I don't care that he's lost you.
You seem easily led.......like a sheep :)

- Who cares for another side of the story, when I've heard 'everything' I need to hear.
I don’t really care for a response on my question to you following your post, above. I bloody well love reading your posts Harks. You‘re one of my favourite posters. :)

What if Melbourne get the trade capacity to move up and take one of the key forwards in the draft? Surely they'd think about that

So who are we going to lose? I'm imagining that the Demons will want a player in return, so I think we can expect to lose either JSOS or Kennedy to the Demons. This, coupled with a late first round this year and a future first round + a late 2nd / early 3rd Carlton's way is how I see the deal getting done.

I float Kennedy as a prospect as he is a proven talent that will have limited opportunities at Carlton. JSOS, as much as I love him he is in the same boat. Probably more likely to get a game infront of Kennedy but is unhappy with Carlton and has enough talent to play every week elsewhere.

I agree with you, they will ask for that but we will say no. If that's the case then no deal will get done.
It will be very hard to get the deal done, however if Melbourne are trying to get Ben Brown, Issac Smith the clubs they are trading with would prefer picks.
If they are targeting Wines, port not so much.
If we can give Melbourne the picks they need to get their targets it could work.

I agree, the only thing I can see making it plausible without McKay is that the rift between other players and coaches with Oliver is real & instead of another year of it, the club thinks they get better value now than in a years time.

A quick taking off of a bandaid instead of the slow more painful move. There are also other KPF on the market so might see a short term solution to grab one of them

They are doing a medical on Ben Brown today so they can organise a KPP on their own. Also 2mPeter is available for trade
