Two things -
1. Just read the Rumour File - had 3 lambs in quick succession. Please, please, please. Love Kenno but Twisties would be an awesome get. Was never a fan of Wines myself. Fantasia sucks. Could see this - 7 to GEE for 2 picks. They need a Top 10 for Cameron. One pick and Fantasia to PA. Wines to MEL. Oliver and Saad to Us. One pick and Kennedy to *.

2. Also, Watching the replay of the Round 3 highlights v GEE. Eddie is unstoppable in the dry. Brackets should be played on the arc, great kick and mark. Jack Silvagni bleeds blue and is a multi-tool, must keep. We are a good side and will get even better this offseason. On the opposition - we could use Narkle and/or Rohan. David Rodan is what the umpiring fraternity need, like Razor, bit of flash and fun. Miers is very punchable

I agree. So if we front load his contract, we need to pay him more, because we are taking some of his salary from future years (which won't be covid affected) and paying now (which is covid affected). COVID seems to have ruined the opportunity to walk a player through the PSD. Would you agree?

Not following at all.

We plan on paying him 3mil over 5 years.

Balanced spread:
600 / 600 / 600 / 600 / 600 = 3mil

Front loaded:
900 / 900 / 400 / 400 / 400 = 3mil

Front loaded with subsequent salary reduction by one third in first year (for ease of presentation)
600 / 900 / 400 / 400 / 400 = 2.7mil

Balanced spread with subsequent salary reduction by one third in first year (for ease of presentation)
400 / 600 / 600 / 600 / 600 = 2.8mil

We pay him LESS if we front load and then the AFL announces a pay cut for all players.

If we end up with Williams, Oliver and Saad.

I would personally like to thank Gil for helping GWS keep Coniglio.

Not sure those 3 end up with us if we paid a fortune for Coniglio.

If we end up with those three, plus Martin last year, then missing out on Shiel and Coniglio was a stroke of luck.

Keep up FFS that news is 47 minutes old.

Hey I go through the entire thread from where I left off last night.
And i'm trying to "work" from home, and squeeze in a nap after my lunch break ok....

So we could go BANG (Williams), BANG (Saad) and BANG (Oliver) in the same trade and FA period? Judd was huge but this would be the best offseason in the last 3 decades? Would almost rival Kernaghan, Bradley and Motley in 1986.

Hope this talk of Oliver to Carlton is true, but finding it hard to figure out how we would get it done without getting Saad in the PSD.

There is no way Dodo can afford to lose Saad for nothing. There is too much pressure on him now.

Amazing how much of a destination we have become and in such a short period of time, too. We have had nominations from Zac Williams, Adam Saad, Clayton Oliver, Jack Martin and Tom Papley. Hopefully the first 4 are all playing together in the same 22 next year. Fingers crossed that it all pans out the way we want it to happen.

A very good summary :)

If Oliver has told us this, Melbourne will be informed and it'll hit the media. No chance this could be kept quiet.

It's a slow burn.

No doubt there will be a pro dees article suggesting how he is contracted and required.

More surprising would be article stating he has informed them of a deesire to be traded and as he is contracted it would be up to Carlton to provide deep satisfaction.

You can be sure that there will be a great articles wondering how we can pay Saad $850,000, Williams $900,000 and Oliver $1M. Then the opposition supporters will pick up on it and true to form, they will demand a look at our books.

This trade scenario doesn't even need to include Port. Blues - Dees exchange components and then Dees can trade with Port separately.
Keeping the moving parts to a minimum is key.

I agree, however, Melbourne may not want to move in seperate trades without guaranteeing replacement.

Certainly doesn’t need Dodo the clown to be a part of it

Surely we could get to the same point without * involved

Carlton
Give: 7 & future first to Melbourne
Receive: Oliver

Port
Give: Wines + 2nd
Receive: Pick 7 + Melbourne 2nd

Melbourne
Give: Oliver
Receive: Wines + Port 2nd

We then tell Dodo we have pick 27 or you can have 2021 2nd rounder and a Kennedy type.....come back to us with your choice

This makes too much sense to work.

I have a couple of concerns. Firstly, if the cut is 1/3 and it goes for 2 years, rather than one, then the $3M becomes $2.4M, which is a significant drop. The player may not agree. Also, what if the cuts don't apply to a PSD contract? Maybe they will. I might be jumping at shadows. If the figures pan out the way you put them, I guess there is not a huge diff. I am just trying to make sense of OR's suggestion that we cannot afford Saad via PSD, but presumably we can afford him via trade.
