It would align with what a few ITK's here have hinted at in recent times...
Along the lines of "young talented players may be traded" etc

Whilst reading all the negative comments about P Dow, I can't help thinking about a bloke who played for Hawthorn and at one stage held the record for most number of VFL/AFL games. Didn't Michael Tuck play 2 or 3 seasons of reserves footy before getting a regular gig with Hawthorn? And went on to be a very good player. Now we expect a player to be a topliner in first and second year. Paddy had a good first year, average second year and was injured nearly all his 3rd year. His early form was promising. Give him a chance.
Yeah but Tucky was in primary school when he played reserves.....

Josh Kennedy played 13 games in 3 seasons at the Hawks before thriving at the Swans, Tom Mitchell played 20 games in 3 seasons at the Swans before a break out year in his 4th.

Concerning that while our group bonded together in the hubs so well that oppo players want in, Stocker was back home watching the boys on TV. I'd love to know what was actually keeping him in Melbourne.

Feel like it's been strangely quiet on the reasons Stocker left the hub...usually something leaks on here but I really haven't seen anything posted except for a very generic 'family reasons'.

Would have been great for him to bond with the playing group but if a family member is sick and in need of care or something like that of course he should go back home.

I wanted Dow because he reminded me of Danger. Not the burst, but the desperation. As a junior looked like he would be someone that would want it more than everyone else.

3 years later however and he's still jogging behind opposition. People cite examples as though those players had not shown their talent, which is incorrect. Dow has shown he can occasionally burst from a pack and little else, which isn't enough to cover his disposal and defensive issues.

The one positive going for him though is that he seems to be popular within the playing group, so will get the required support. It's certainly not as simple as expecting a switch will just flick though. Will only happen if he puts in a lot of work, and even that may only buy him time.

An adamant "no comment" from Teague in respoinse to a media question a while back - is all the news we've got - unfortunately.

I will be gutted if we trade Stocker. I know he hasn’t shown much at senior level, but I have high hopes for him. Just needs a decent run at it.
Surely Bolton is involved if this rumour is true.

Let's be real though he's way down the pecking order of a midfield spot and Williams + potential gun mid will only push him down further.

He's even behind Dow/Philp/Kemp...the likelihood of seeing him in the AFL team in 2021 is very slim unless he has a really impressive pre-season.
Doesn't seem like we're trying him as a defender anymore...even there with the arrival of Saad he'd be behind Newman/Marchbank for a spot in the back 7...maybe even Polson who actually played AFL this year.

I have been in the finance industry for >15 years and I have come across plenty of amateurs who pick stocks better than the pros. A lot of it is luck and admittedly there are other factors at play.

But amazing to think how many billions of dollars have been paid in fees over the years for professionals to do little/no better than a dartboard.

Recruitment is somewhat similar to the stockmarket in that the exposed form is usually less relevant than the inside tips.

Agree totally. This is why I skip the financial planner and invest in low cost ETF’s. I buy consistently every month, dollar cost averaging. The only single stocks I have ever bought have been a couple of blue chip banks when they were at the $15 mark back in March/April.

it’s not the sexy way (apt) to do it but It works for me so far.

Also with the introduction of machine learning and big data becoming more prevalent it's actually now better to have a machine to manage your super. I believe since computers introduced to manage your super (about 12 years now) they have out-performed human management.. hence you're best paying less fees having your super machine managed than being managed by a human.

Don't believe everything you hear from those amateur investors Ferris. They love talking about their wins. Losses, not so much. If you talk to their accountants, you will find out the real story. Not so easy for recruiters though. Aint nowhere to hide!

So how does an amateur investor make a small fortune?

Start with a large one!

WTF is this ....... the Finance/ASX Board!

I know that your not having a go or anything like that and this isnt necessarily directed at you, but we really should just leave it alone.
Its clearly a personal issue and outside of that we really have no right to know.

Dangerfield, Ablett and Jobe were all basket cases early on, even Bartel went at 12 or so touches a game over his first two year before a big step up. There is just so much more scrutiny on a player these days...there wasn't a platform of thousands of (mostly) grown, (mostly) men like BF hanging on every (mostly) made up theory back then, let alone the ten fold increase in footy media.

Dow I think has attributes to contribute...LOB I'm a little circumspect on, but I would think is at least a full season away from any sort of informed judgement. Stocker we have seen next to nothing, so who knows. I read next to nothing into 2020 form lines, be it good or bad.

Dow’s burst and ability to run into space and race towards goal and kick a behind is second to none

Seriously though he does have some weapons and he’s a work in progress but I think he has enough there - just needs to figure it out and also increase the intensity - and next year he needs to play a lot of VFL to get into form and build confidence before he should be thrown into the deep end into a finals bound team

The Stocker trade news would surprise me. From what I’ve heard there is a chance he might not play again, did not handle the hub life well. Needed to get back to Melbourne and get himself stable. I wish him all the best.
That is a fact. Maybe, therefore, Hawthorn with it's culture is better for Liam. However if Carlton can get him focussed- that would be great

I could see this being our round 1 team (I could also see it not being our round 1 team but for the sake of argument lets say it is)

Plowman, Jones, Newman
Docherty, Weitering, Saad
Williamson, Cripps, Walsh
Fisher, C Curnow, Martin
Casboult, Mckay, Betts
TDK, Williams, Setterfield

Int Murphy, SPS, Marchbank, E Curnow

That would leave the likes of Newnes, Gibbons, McGovern, Kennedy & Silvagni as depth players (although I think JSOS could be a great link between the mid’s and forwards for us) along with first round picks Cuningham, Dow, O’Brien, Stocker, Kemp & Philp.

Over the course of the year I would hope that Betts and Murphy get pushed out by some of that first round talent.

Personally, dont see Eddie , Murph or Levi in best 22, nor do I see Gov being left out of it. SPS is on the cusp of missing out too IMO. Pitto number 1 ruck for me.
