As per the Bluemour File OP, this is a thread for discussing Carlton related rumours.
http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/bluemour-file.1085141/

Rumour posters should post their rumours in both threads for those that like just to read rumours and for those that like to have get lost in their rumour files.

Remember ... #Bluemour

Why has the Wines talk dried up? Surely given discussions played out last year, the club would have maintained contact to see if a deal could happen this year. Everyone knows we need to bring in someone to support Cripps. There must be an iron of some sort in the fire.

People also get focused on the pick number...but how is the quality rated around pick 8? IMO the fact this year a lot of the top VIC prospects didn't play is going to have a big ramification on the number of quality players that get drafted...we see every year many players come from nowhere in their draft year and rocket up the draft boards...those players didn't get a chance this year. If this happened in Oliver's draft year, he might not have even gotten drafted for example.

So not only is our pick 8 really only going to get Essendon the 11th best player in the draft, it's also a lot hard to assess draftees than normal years.

We have plenty of first round picks already on our list not in our best 22...whereas Saad is a gun and improves us immediately.

Depends what the 'change' is exactly, but I'd be ok to trade pick 8 for Saad & an early-mid 20s pick...ideally not having to give anything more back.
TBF... to Austin and Forty3 rumour...

The people who are against it in here me included, are really only against it because we hate Essendon/Dodoro and believe that we need Pick 8
for a deal for Oliver or another Big Fish...

Highly doubt Austin would use any currency if it effected us getting a big fish..
In reality it may be a fair deal.. If we don't rate this draft, we could upgrade 2 seconds to a first with Dogs...

Austin is a Carlton man with blue blood same as us, doubt he will do anything against the best for the club...
But if he gives up pick 8 without getting something back and doesn't have a plan to do something with it, I may join the angry mob..

Idea
Essendon> Pick 8
Carlton> Saad Pick 27 (Port)

Dogs> Pick 27,28,47
Carlton> Pick 13

Collingwood>Pick 13
Carlton> 2021 First (Pies)

Gives us 2 firsts in a super draft next year, to use or trade

Whilst we have #7 (now #8) our priority has to be to use it for a mid-fielder. Get Oliver or Trealour in, in that order then we deal with what's left for Saad.

Saad is not the cover that Cripps needs. You want him to go to Freo next year?

Get somebody in the midfield and target Merrit for next - then we're talking flags.

Treloar aint costing a first round and Oliver will require a starting 18 player. Between Treloars contract and Oliver's price tag theres no room for Merrett. None. Cant make the offer required for free agency and cant get it done at the trade table.

If McCartin has limited options and is willing to go anywhere, I think it could be worth picking him up to see if he can make it as a key defensive stopper.

Lots of talk about him going back if ever gets another crack at it. We probably need a stopper coming in behind Jones who is the oldest of our really integral players.

Uh oh, Austin about to be hammered on here I feel...
Not looking good for him if we give up pick 8 for Saad who is really worth a pick in the 20s tops, not to mention blowing the cap on a guy that might play midfield if the reported salary for Williams is true.

Wouldn't matter as much if we weren't gift wrapping Essendon 3 picks inside 10

Absolutely.

There's no oliver, there's no mystery player, it's all bullshit

But it's entertaining.....!

Ironically I was on a tram going up your street today and I overheard this conversation.............

Can’t repeat what I heard (something about a bank.......)

I don't want to use #8 on Saad. If we did, we have to get something back we are intending to use for another player.

We have Setterfield. Jesus, if the list management team followed what this forum wants the entire bloody midfield would be overflowing with big bodied inside mids. Look where that got Melbourne. A preliminary final appearance and then a couple of years in no man's land.

If we pick up McCartin, we will have had 6 first round draft picks from the 2014 draft. The other 5 have played the equivalent of 98 games across 14 seasons for us.

Think this move would just produce more of the same.

Bouncing statistics aren't really relevant this year - he played most of his footy on smaller Queensland grounds, plus 5 less games and shorter games.
So the argument is that he has improved. The numbers show he hasn't, even when adjusted for shorter games.

And your still explaining it away? Why?

The Age mentioning our interest in McCartin too…

Sources said Port Adelaide had offered pick 26 (which has now moved out to 28 with compensation picks and is likely to move further) for Essendon forward Orazio Fantasia. Essendon rejected that offer and has asked for a first round pick.

:$

If you beg a bloke to come, then say nah e aren't paying pick 8, we just look like idiots. I'd be preparing ourselves for pick 8 to go to the filthy scum.

To add context, we have offered him a 5 year deal at around 3 million dollars. Debate the merits of that all you like, but it sends a message that we want him badly and we will have to pay accordingly.

If you have ever done any sort of high level deals or negotiations, you will understand this. If we try to pay less and say nah he aint worth that, the easiest and most simple retort is "obviously you don't value him".

Good or bad, we don't have a leg to stand on

Jack Martin??????

Have to admit CC, I'm a bit surprised by this. Love your work on the Bay, but who gives a **** what anyone else thinks about us?

I mean yeah not wanting to overpay I can understand, but we'd be taking one of * best players, surely that makes up any difference in value when it comes to bragging rights?
I’m not after bragging rights, nor am I interested in winning a trade for an OOC player, that doesn’t want to be at his former club, whom was then given a fair backhander by a bloke that was then, strangely enough, sacked.
I want Saad, don’t get me wrong, I want something “very compelling” coming back our way!
Not some blimey second rounder that they don’t have yet!
I’m pissed how the narrative has been pushed by the media and even by some of our ITK’s!
“But but but, he finished 3rd in their best and fairest 3 times......”.
We are better than them, Willo will be a better player in his position next year or the following, Nick Newman is on par or better than Saad.
I don’t like being played like a fiddle when you haven’t even bought me a drink before we diddle!
That’s all!

Essendon have asked for a 1st round pick for Fantasia too. Let's see how Port deal with that one as I don't think they really need him.
