As per the Bluemour File OP, this is a thread for discussing Carlton related rumours.
http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/bluemour-file.1085141/

Rumour posters should post their rumours in both threads for those that like just to read rumours and for those that like to have get lost in their rumour files.

Essendon have asked for a 1st round pick for Fantasia too. Let's see how Port deal with that one as I don't think they really need him.

* are interested in Riley Bonner, surely you'd just do a straight swap, Bonner for Fantasia.

That stinks.

I doesn't take a lot of work to get "8 and a U22 1st rounder" to "8 with a return", because the first deal was unrealistic.

A pick in the mid teens to low 20s is fair to both sides.

We need to be willing to walk away from here.

I'll take the hit to our reputation because everyone knows dealing with Dodo is a nightmare. Nobody thinks less of Sydney after the Daniher fiasco last year.

Push him to the PSD. Put a 2 year deal with high dollars, Essendon can pay through the teeth for a player who doesnt want to be there.

Spot on.

Paying up like idiots just makes Carlton look a “soft touch“ to other clubs.

Makes future deals even harder (not easier).

Can't get my head around the McCartin news.

I love that we're thinking outside the box but I just can't see why we'd go down that path.
Id hope we had Alex Johnson’s in for a medical as well  A

Pretty sure plenty of teams still haven’t been able to get back to Melbourne. Maybe another team doctor was using The Carlton facilities?

Well i guess its possible he could be part of the standalone VFL team, was a player/development coach at the Northern Blues in 2019.

*Oh i didn't realise he had done his ACL again, and was waiting for his seventh knee reconstruction. (Jun 26th, 2020)

There has been a lot of work done by Carlton, Saad and his management team to talk sense into the Saad deal. They’ve talked it down from 8 + (one of our under 22 year old first rounders) to working around us getting some change from Pick 8.
It’s at a tricky impasse at the moment. Daniher getting band 1 compo means any offer we make to split our pick 8 with Geelong or Brisbane can now be trumped by Essendon. The club is acutely aware of how negotiations went with Papley and Martin last year, and there is growing sentiment that when you convince a player to come, you need to make sure it happens smoothly, otherwise there are fears players and managers won’t want to work with us in the future.
As it stands the deal will have pick 8 going to the bombers with change yet to be agreed upon.

Simple. Offer pick 8 to Geelong and Brisbane. First in best dressed gets the deal. If Essendon trump us with one of them, we deal to the other. There’s many ways to skin a cat, including trading for futures with another team. Make no mistake, if Austin trades 8 for Saad and anything that doesn’t turn the value of 8 into a 15-22 range, then he’s blinked.

If you beg a bloke to come, then say nah e aren't paying pick 8, we just look like idiots. I'd be preparing ourselves for pick 8 to go to the filthy scum.

To add context, we have offered him a 5 year deal at around 3 million dollars. Debate the merits of that all you like, but it sends a message that we want him badly and we will have to pay accordingly.

If you have ever done any sort of high level deals or negotiations, you will understand this. If we try to pay less and say nah he aint worth that, the easiest and most simple retort is "obviously you don't value him".

Good or bad, we don't have a leg to stand on

Essendope form of negotiation when we have the PSD lever available would be walk away from the table for me.

He is out of contract. End of story.

I’m not after bragging rights, nor am I interested in winning a trade for an OOC player, that doesn’t want to be at his former club, whom was then given a fair backhander by a bloke that was then, strangely enough, sacked.
I want Saad, don’t get me wrong, I want something “very compelling” coming back our way!
Not some blimey second rounder that they don’t have yet!
I’m pissed how the narrative has been pushed by the media and even by some of our ITK’s!
“But but but, he finished 3rd in their best and fairest 3 times......”.
We are better than them, Willo will be a better player in his position next year or the following, Nick Newman is on par or better than Saad.
I don’t like being played like a fiddle when you haven’t even bought me a drink before we diddle!
That’s all!

Nic Newman is not better than Saad, but I agree on comparative values Saad should not be Pick 8, - a pick in the late teens at very best and a pick in the mid 20s is where it should be.

So like Plow but a year older. Gotcha.

What did Plow cost again? A portion of pick 28 was it?

K-man, you’ve missed the points about finals window, pacy backman and his b&f count form at Essendon. But all good.

You’ve got to look at the player. Saad isn’t plow and vice virsa. Just because they’re backman around the same age doesn’t mean they’re the same. Bit like saying doc is only worth a portion of pick 28 because he’s a backman around 27 years old.

So, who is the player that we’ll pick at 8 that will help us more than Saad in the next 3 years as we sit in our finals window?

Errrm?

Exactly. Been saying it for a while now, this draft is a write off for pretty much everyone. Just get Saad. If that means pick 8 plus our 3rd round for Saad and their future 2nd just get it done.
We have so many kids on our list we can afford to get the deal done just to get the player we want. Why risk missing out on him for the sake of a few spots in the draft.

Why has the Wines talk dried up? Surely given discussions played out last year, the club would have maintained contact to see if a deal could happen this year. Everyone knows we need to bring in someone to support Cripps. There must be an iron of some sort in the fire.
C4 who gets good info from Port indicated he is staying.

Can't get my head around the McCartin news.

I love that we're thinking outside the box but I just can't see why we'd go down that path.

Maybe he’s approached us and the club’s just having a look... I have a feeling not much will come from this but I could be wrong

We value him plenty, that's why we're here.
It wasn't Carlton saying in the media how bad he is for the club, team culture, unreasonable, etc etc.

Fact is, he wanted out, and after extending the olive branch they then torched him because he rejected them. There is no going back. They will not take him back even if he wanted to.

On par, Newman is a good defender and great with ball in hand delivering to the mids and forwards.
His game against Sydney last year was better than anything Saad has produced in his life, no question!

SoS is dirty on CFC. That is evident.
Someone just rang up and suggested Saad & pick 26 for pick 8. SoS replied 'you don't have to give them anything back' and Rendell added give them pick 48 if anything. The smirks on their faces highlighted the media bias evident. Truly feel sad that it has come to this with SoS.

I don't know why people are surprised by any of this, SOS' loyalty to the club has only ever been apparent when being paid by the club, firstly as a player ,then as list manager, This isn't a criticism of him, it's just an observation. His loyalty is to whoever is paying him at the time, which is how it should be when continuing to be employed in the industry.

He's not a Kernahan, Nicholls, etc type who is going to give back to the club expecting nothing in return.
