As per the Bluemour File OP, this is a thread for discussing Carlton related rumours.

Rumour posters should post their rumours in both threads for those that like just to read rumours and for those that like to have get lost in their rumour files.

OK. You weren't particularly clear that you were expecting a second rounder back, it sounded like you were just happy to do the deal for pick 8 alone.

Personally my preferences, if using pick 8, would be in this order:

1. We get a late first rounder somehow and give them that.
2. We get a late first rounder back from them.
3. We get an early-mid second rounder back from them.

Anything else, then:

4. We walk him to the National Draft, and f**k them!
^ This is sensible.

Don't see the issue, myself...

As sure as night follows day, the Arse will pick the wrong kid at 8, purifying the draft pool for those who have picks after them. They're like the filter that extracts the feces from our drinking water. Essentially, the EFC is a sieve covered in shit.

Win/win.

No one and I mean no one would take Saad at pick 8 in the ND, our current position

That suggests you would get a single pick back, which is so far over the odds it's laughable

I think youre greatly over stating the quality of the 2020 draft. No one and I mean no one holds that view. Its a write off. Can you still get lucky and land on some quality? Sure. But youre just as likely to do so with pick 28 as you are with pick 8.

Weight issues, fitness, huge concussion risk and diabetes.

Would take the heat off McGovern? Maybe a casboult replacement?

I hope it's just due diligence, I reckon he's a head injury away from ruining his future.

And he's a type one diabetic, not a type two. That's a HUGE difference in health management, 24/7.

Again, not sure why you want to compare draftees to a 27 year old that has 5 years at best left in the game

We don't need to over pay for a player to make finals next year

And before the draft I will give you 6 kids that are around that pick that will better medium to long term prospects

According to The Age Dodo has rejected pick 26 (pushed back to 28) from Port for Fantasia.

Reckon that's pretty fair for a guy with his injury history and inconsistency. Yeah his best is really good, but we've rarely seen it.
God I hate Dodo.
Maybe they're pushing for a better pick because we've said 28 coming back won't do it.

Once again, our discussion initiated upon whether you would take Saad at pick 8 in the ND. To which you answered no. Arrow, I know you want to take our conversation in another direction to where youre more comfortable. Im not interested in doing that.

You dont want to over pay because you rqte pick 8 in the 2020 draft. Any other year youd win this hands down. I wouldnt even be making the case because you would be right. But pick 8 in the 2020 draft is what were talking about and what it is worth.

So name those 6 kids. And if any of those kids are starting 22 by the time we finish our flag tilt then I'll concede to your infinite wisdom. I'd like to put a covenant on it though: those 6 kids must be taken at pick 8 or later.

Paddy McCartin is 100% a potential KPD. If we can snag him for free we should go for it. If it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t work out. No different than a Dillion Viojo-Rainbow or a Jarrod Garlett for example.

For all the back and forth about Saad and what he is worth... in the end, a quick deal is better than a protracted one, for both teams. Something Dodoro, SOS, and fans of both teams have forgotten in the past

The question over Saad should be whether he makes the team better, not whether the price is fair. If he contributes to a premiership winning best 22 then 5x top 10 picks would sit well with me. If he doesn’t make us better, then pick 51 is bad

Whatever else it ends up being, the key is after the 3 weeks or whatever we have had, we lock it down day 1 so we know what we have to play with for the rest of the trade period.

Consider - last year we got Jack Martin for ‘free’ and ‘won’ the trade. But when Ollie Wines became available at the last minute we weren’t in a position to go all in on him.

This year’s draft is a crapshoot. If we like Saad (and that’s a whole big question in itself) then start with 8, get a second back. Then spend the rest of trade period in a position to fill other gaps. Or take the extra time to scout second round picks because in a disrupted year there’s gonna be clear value available.

They hold picks 6 and 7, us splitting our pick doesn’t call any bluff, i am referring to the idea that we can get him in the ND or PSD, if we were in their shoes, I would be telling the * and whatever player, we will pick you in the draft if we don’t get a fair deal.
It does call their bluff because it takes Pick 8 out of the equation and leaves them the choice of taking a late first rounder or us taking the punt on the PSD. It shows we are not going to waste the trade period only to cave in during the last mins. We tell them what their options are, we take Pick 8 out of the equation, and we get on with other deals. Like you said, they have 6 & 7, and we can't stop them redrafting Saad, but the ball will be back in their court on if they take a late 1st rounder for Saad or not.

I am not the one that took this conversation to the draft, you did

If you have a look at my previous posts I have not once suggested taking the pick to the draft as a first option, that first option is to either split the pick or trade back.

Yes my 2nd option would be to take it to the draft, rather than spending that currency on a 26 year old, OOC, HB

You must be really desperate for success, to use that pick alone on Saad, what is the tipping point? Scum want a pick in the top 4 and ask us to create that scenario for them? Or pick 8 and our 2nd with a 3rd coming back?

What's the most you would give up?

With all due respect, we will be the laughing stock if we use pick 8 on a HBF’er that dazzles a bit with his run and can butcher it by foot, whom only touches the thing 19 times a game.
Picks in the top 10 are for elite trades and elite kids, Saad, I like him, but he’s not elite, nor an A-grader.
Couldn't disagree with your assessment more.

Value is based on how valuable a player is to the team, not in isolation.

KPD with war wounds, not overly athletic and already undersized at 194cm.

You're kidding.
