As per the Bluemour File OP, this is a thread for discussing Carlton related rumours.

Rumour posters should post their rumours in both threads for those that like just to read rumours and for those that like to have get lost in their rumour files.

Waiting for that statement

We will play finals with or without Saad. Currency is about what you get that makes you better medium to long term, as this short term should have been part of the plan a number of years ago.

So a question, which 27 year old(half back flanker) was traded in for a pick in the top 10, that went on to feature in a flag?
I don't have a dog in this fight, but that is a strange question to me.

Which 27 year old half back flanker traded for a pick in the top 10 didn't go on to feature in a flag?

We should pay whats fair, and not risk walking him to the PSD. I just don't think us haggling over Saad for the sake of a few spots in the draft is really worth it.

Saads value for me is a mid to late first rounder. And we have pick 8. Its not that far off if we can't split pick 8.
I agree that PSD is not an option, but I'm curious as to why you think just asking Saad to nominate for the National Draft and then taking him with that pick isn't an option? If they won't budge from a "pick 8 or nothing" stance, why give the pick to them at all? Just use it ourselves.

F*** Dodo.
F*** Essington.
F*** Campo.
F*** SOS.
F*** the people suggesting “Austin should resign if * get our first pick” or anything like that.
F*** anyone getting worked up over some TR BS or what they saw on FB.
Calm the f*** down, we’ll get through this.
you mean like, when you run out of milk?

Gavin Wanganeen netted * pick 2 and 25. Back pocket I know, but similar type.

I don’t run out of milk. Always got the next bottle lined up, can’t be caught in the morning without milk after I’ve already fired a big double shot from the espresso machine. F*** running to the servo for a $5 bottle of Paul’s...

1996, then took 8 years to win a flag. Think Saad has 8 years left?

Prestia, a midfielder, was the most recent top 10 trade that went on to win a flag, but they also picked up Nank and Caddy that year

Same year as Prestia, Bolton was drafted, year later, Higgins.

Late pick Pickett

One player isn't that crucial to success

This Treloar thing is astonishing. Some club is going to get a bargain I feel.
What is going on at Collingwood?!
One thing is for sure, whomever throws Treloar a lifeline is going to have his eternally gratitude and he will run those Hamstrings of the bone for the club that does.

Wanganeen was a precocious young gun who’d also won a Brownlow by the time he was 21. He wasn’t a pure backman either.

To me Saad is more a very good role player. Has weapons, but can only really play as a rebounding defender and his style of play suits him being fed the ball.

I’d be interesting to see how he’d be rated if he hasn’t just come off a career best season, and even more amazed how quickly some have given up on the deal already. You always have the option of walking away.

What i'm saying is that pick 8 is overs for Saad, but on the other hand he improves our best 22 by quite a bit next year. So where is the balance? If we can get a 2nd rounder back from Essendon, be it this year or next take the deal.

Its the sum of the parts, of course. But the club see Saad as part of that. He is a specific type and a proven quantity. Not some "maybe" kid from the draft who hasnt played in a year whos gonna take time to develop. We're gearing up for now.

We're talking this years draft. This list is no longer at the point where choosing kids over known quantities is necessarily the smart move. We have a couple of holes that need to be filled.

And especially this years draft. We're in a position where we can strengthen our list as well as our trading potential. Seize it. Let him have pick 8 and we'll get some change. We're in the market for a specific type of player because the assessment is that we need to start finishing off for a flag tilt and he fits the bill.
I'm okay with giving * pick 8 for Saad, but we need to get something back or the deals off. Happy to pay 'overs', but you've got to know when to fold. Still think 27 and Kennedy/JSOS is the best option, and it's more than a fair price. (obviously being 'uncontracted' makes zero difference in a players value anymore)
