Did you think he was a horrible kick every time he kicked a goal for us?
Sorry but I find it hard to take when pot shots are fired at Ed.
Such a loyal player who gives a billion per cent every game .
I was in the CBD early one day and Ed ran past me with someone beside him on a bike. Not only ripped, but he was sprinting down Bourke street doing the hills. Not the best kick but clubs are built around blokes like this. Meat and potatoes and gets the job done more often than not.

also helps that he’s got the flexibility to play as not just as a mid but a designated tagger or on a flank. Got a feeling we’re gonna really like Hewett.
I've long admired Hewett from afar. Obviously he's not a star, but he's exactly the type the Swans have built a culture around since forever.

As for the Curnow comparison, yeah they are similar but Hewett has probably got a few extra strings to his bow. We must remember Curnow is a year to year proposition at this stage, he's closish to the end unfortunately. Signing up his replacement on a good value deal isn't a bad idea at all. I think they can both fit in the team anyway tbf.

Maybe I’ve got the wrong impression, but everything I’ve seen suggests the players there think highly of him.
Everything I've heard suggests the players think highly of him. I reckon the poor overall sentiment toward the Port coaching staffers is due to Ken, not Voss.

I'm excited to announce our new coach under Cook and Sayers. I have full faith that we'll make the right decision.

Look at Kennedy this year such improvement now Russell has worked with him to develop the right physical attributes for his role.

So is it really just a recruitment issue?
Our midfield was still getting smashed by oppositions run. I loved what he brought this season but can you see a group of Kennedy, SPS, Setterfield, Cripps and Dow running with Melbourne, Bulldogs or in the past Richmonds midfield? They can all be good players in their own right but as a group it’s a horrible mix imo. Our saving grace was that we were wooden spooners and got Walsh who was a perfect fit.

If Steve Silvagni does not rate Hewett, I'd like to know why.
Listen to what he actually said, he rates Hewett and said his a good player he asked the question if we don’t already have similar players to him on our list. Supporters have to stop with this sh*t whenever SOS gives an objective opinion about something to do with us

because he is working for Crocmedia and his job is to generate controversy, leading to clicks and ears on Trade Radio, leading to ROI from the ads.

He may have more moral authority than some of the other duds on there but his KPIs will be very clear.

If Voss is coach I wonder if he could entice any Port players to follow him. Willem Drew would be the one I’d want

think C4[2]Yo`DooR said we were interested last time he was OOC

IMO Hewett is taking that spot for us going forward

Would have loved Rhys to have a crack at coaching CFC in days gone by. Didn’t he take North Launceston to a flag as a playing coach and get Frankston into a couple of Grand Finals?
I believe that is right on both fronts. I think there is also some data on premiership teams getting more suspensions than any others in the year they win the flag. Rhys could definitely coach some s*&t into us.

Maybe I’ve got the wrong impression, but everything I’ve seen suggests the players there think highly of him.

I’ve listened to two podcasts this week (called the Imperfects) run by the creator of The Resilience Project who are big into mental health. Travis Boak and Jack Watts both spoke highly of Michael Voss’s involvement in managing player welfare and getting the program
into the club. Add that to Ollie Wines praise and I’ve certainly started to think differently of him this week.

A mate of mine reckons that Walsh is rumoured to have requested a trade to the Dogs.
Anyone else heard this?

For the record, I don't believe it.
Only one man who will be in the know on this one

KohPhi what have you heard? Has Walsh finished considering his options

I am really hoping that's the case. Lappin, Power, and 1 of either Tapping or McQualter is a good base to build around... In my opinion...
All those would be great.
Cannot find any indication that McQualter is contracted beyond this year, so that may not be an issue.
The other one I'd hope might be possible is Troy Chaplain from Dees as defensive coach, especially with Scarlett apparently unavailable.
He's been there 4 years now so could have had 2 x 2 contracts.

I did listen. And the idea that we have enough similar players on our list to Hewett is nonsensical. Unless all our mids bar Ed and Walsh have just been dogging it and are actually hard running mids with defensive mindsets.

Reality is that ALL (well, almost all) your mids have to have that side to their game. The question is whether you have enough who do that AND have other strings to their bow.

Thanks for that. I have to say I am not jumping off the couch if we get Voss, but am at the same time not negative about it. I support the decision makers. But I believe having a real quality team (character, skills, experience including some premiership) around Voss is important. Chaplain, if possible, sounds like a good get also...

A couple of things.

Punch your mate in the face... hard
Punch yourself in the face for not punching him in the face earlier.
Don't embarrass yourself like this by brining it here.

Even if Walsh was to leave, why Dogs? If there is one part of the field the Dogs have covered twice over is their midfield.

Expecting an announcement today. Public holiday tomorrow, and I would expect any decision couldn’t be kept under wraps over the weekend.

Good luck to Vossy and Kingsley, both have been through the interview process, with some serious football talent on the panel.

Whoever gets it, support them with quality assistants and development staff, and we will be back in finals sooner than later.

I reckon Sayers will do like the Cook appointment - just bang it out in a tweet & members email on a Friday night round 7.30pm. I like it night before the GF the media can wait til Monday to do their interviews lol

I guess that's the burning question, isn't it - have our mids been poort defensively because that's just how they're always going to be, or is the issue one of coaching (team and individual) and the roles being set out for them?

I think when you look at the young blokes who could be asked to perform that role, you've got:

Dow - run-with apprenticeship could help him longer term, but he also doesn't have the tank to go with a premium mid for more than about 15 minutes if they decide to work him over.

SPS - this is one that I think we could have tried, instead of chucking him down back. Samo doesn't seem to invite contact like other contested mids, but if he's going with a player he can stick a bear hug with the best of them. Might have had him a bit more involved, and would give him opportunities to peel off when we win the ball and act as an outside distributor.

LOB - not the role for him, needs to be developed in that wing role or not at all.

Kennedy - definitely could have had a crack at this one, instead of being played as a makeshift key forward in the reserves. Injuries might have limited his ability to put midfield minutes together, I guess, but I think it was more a case of him being on the outer until the selectors had their hand forced.

Stocker - needed to build up the tank, seems to have done that while doing a defensive apprenticeship. Don't mind him down there, but think if he cracks the midfield at some stage it will be as much more than a defensive stopper.

Fisher - too slight.

Cunners - always injured.

Setterfield - this is the one for me, that epitomises the player vs. coach/development conundrum. Should be the ideal candidate for a defensive midfield role, but just lacks any sort of intensity on the field. Is that just him, or has it been allowed to happen through poor development/standards, or is it a form of acting out over not being played in the position he sees himself performing best in?
