Our forward line does look our most potent group imo. Therefore it makes sense to enhance our midfield as much as possible in order to give our forwards more shots on goal. Adding Cerra and Hewitt, then Voss working closely with Cripps, Walsh, Dow, Fish and Bam Bam. Should see all of those improve to varying degrees. I am most excited to see how Dow responds, been a slow-burn thus far. But he will be worth it. Cripps could be a much better player next year with improved focus on what he really needs to be doing. I would also be rapt if Williams puts in a huge pre-season and ends up having the tank to play midfield. This is the reason why we recruited him and his explosiveness would add an extra dimension to our midfield.

I can't wait for Cunners to get back into the team as well.

Yeah, agree we need good improvement from our existing midfielders. When I first saw Williams highlight reel I was expecting a lot more but seems his fitness wasn’t up to scratch. We can’t give up hope although that’s what we’ve been doing for a while now. Each year we hope for a better start to the season on the back of good news coming out of the club.

I’m hoping this preseason period we work out a few of our issues and show some genuine improvements starting from r1 against tiggies. We just have to win that.

as development officer, not playing
Phew. That’s a relief.

I’m sure there’s a few midfielders on our list that we can play off the HB line to kill their confidence completely anyway. HH would be superfluous to our current needs.

Scarlett might decide to coach with us. The Cook factor.

Matthew Scarlett has informed the club that he is stepping away from coaching.

“It has been an incredible journey, much more than I could ever have hoped for when I joined the club,” Scarlett said.
“I have enjoyed coaching, but the time is right to take a break".

Not sure what this means between Scarlett and Clark (but this is a rumour thread). I really admired Scarlett as a player, and he always struck me as an intense and focused character. I believe Scarlett would bring something to CFC if he came, but maybe he really does need time away from the game. Wishing them all all the best...

I’m sure this is common knowledge but what im observing is that each club looks at the strengths of their list and builds a game plan around those strengths.
Hawks had elite kickers so they played the possession game,
Dogs got one in 2016 off the back of manic pressure,
Tiggies frantic forward ball movement and having dusty up there,
Now dees doing it with their potent midfield group

Are these fair comments?

At this stage Im not sure where our strength is apart from H up front being a super weapon.
Our strength is letting the supporters down...

Not sure how we build a flag off the back of that.

Was the most significant strength for Melbourne and Richmond for decades…things change

Unless you’re the Aints…..

Yep the midfield is worst in the league but there is room for improvement with the “slow burners” and Cerra & Hewett.

I always marvel at how we salivate with having CC and Harry up front yet we:

1. Barely get it inside 50 40 times a game; and

2. When we do it’s too often garbage delivery.

Re point 1, I think our I50 efficiency is quite ok (not so much with midget forward lines we had for a few rounds last yr) - it’s just getting it in there often enough is the issue.

Strange part is this ...

Why the Eagles are salivating over Jarrod Brander, the 17-gamer with 'no ceiling' (afl.com.au)

In 5 months ....

Strange?

Probably committed to another club (hawks) weeks ago

Nah he was told before then he was not getting another contract. There is something NQR about it ...

Dees have just built a well balanced list, strong defence, strong midfield and strong versatile forwards with many layers.

2 very good rucks, KPP's that didn't even get a look in for the GF, even brought in Brown etc (can never have enough KPP). Bar Brisbane dynasty the best balanced list for a long while.

Could also be something like SPS.. not playing in best position, plus maybe a bit homesick in these COVID travel restricted times... Seems to be a bit of a utility who might need some stability....
