Up to 6 of Carltons biggest stars have taken pay cuts to reduce the pressure on cap space to get Cerra across per 7news including Walshy, Crippa, Weiters, and Harry & 2 others
That's interesting and great to see from a player behaviour/ buy in point of view to get another quality player in.

I've thought our salary cap was tight, but I'm surprised it has come to this already!

Now how are we going to deal with Walsh next year
Hopefully, we'll go deep into the 2022 finals and convince the existing players to take another cut to keep the best player in the list and the band together - for a real crack in 2023 :D

So effectively Liddle was full of sh*t at mid year when he said we had room for 1-2 good players.

Players Shouldn't have had to take a pay cut for hjs statement to be true

We had room for 1-2 good players. We traded in 3.

thx blue chip.!!i've.seen 8 premierships from 4 yrs old starting 1964 [with my father [raised in suburban Carlton himself] & watching Barrassi transform the club..so i've seen the best of the CFC glory days....yearning for another renaissance

Quick question Jezza if I may mate. How do you rate this reset in relation to the Barrassi transformation (I mean I know it’s 2 totally different eras) but just in the feel of how Sayers and Co have gone about it? For mine I think it feels real and has substance but I’d like your opinion having seen that great transformation in the past. Thanks mate.

If it was Martin he had a right to refuse. Lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in his first year due to the salary cap squeeze.
And if Cripps reportedly already signed on for unders in his new contract then he shouldn’t have to take another cut.
You would doubt Walsh would need to take paycut on a contract extension from his first year -- seems like false news to me -- maybe they have agreed to take a maximum salary going forward so they stay together and get success ..that seems more plausible to me .. meaning they have agreed not to pressure club into million dollar contracts to stay ..
all speculation

Well if the boys took a haircut, no chance of a Wingard or Mitchell surprise next week.

Probably 3 names I could think of to refuse a pay cut, and each have a valid reason. No big deal. The fact the majority all agreed is amazing and indicates they are very, very keen to improve the squad and achieve success.

Hopefully Cook will have some input the next 1-2 years in establishing the "Geelong" pay structure where no one is on overs and everyone on a fair deal to keep a quality squad together.

God that's a bad photo of TB.

They are both full of Sh#t, Cerra took took less than the Freo offer to move home, and Niall was saying 500-550k which he thought was spot on. Would take Niall's summation of proceedings over those two Muppets.

That's exactly what they are ....... MUPPETS!

Serious question. Given our list and club situation as it is now, which player/s who are not known to be signed up and secure at their club would you like us to target?

I'm not talking: let's go get Wines or Petracca b/c they're the best.

But if you could give Austin and co. one name to pick up the phone about, who would it be?

Touk Miller.

move not heard about this one, what’s the story on Betts and SPS’ relationship?

Trying to make the point to posters that SPS did not achieve potential while Betts played with him.

What logic is there to support Betts being the “magic potion” that will make Stengle achieve his potential & stay out of trouble?

We're hamstrung by two rules:
- Can't trade out a future 1st when you've already traded out a future 2nd, 3rd, 4th (and we traded the F3 in the deal for Cerra without getting any future picks back)
- Need to use minimum 2 first round picks in a 4 year period. We've used 2 in 2019 so technically could use the future 1st in a trade BUT it will put us in a tricky position in 2022 as we will not be able to trade our current or future firsts without special dispensation for some time.

I do think an application to the AFL for dispensation given we used our first on a 21/22 year old would likely be justifiable.

What if the future 1st brings back a future 2nd, 3rd or 4th that has been traded out?

I think we've got the talent there now especially with this year's inclusions & and a bit of luck with injuries.... The whole thing is going to be predicated on the ''buy-in'' & in the culture of the group... In 1968 players we're not the most talented group but Barassi drove the culture and the players played for him and or each other and trained relentlessly... Barassi drove the culture and 2 more premierships[ although John Nicholls coached his team in 1972] the momentum was already up and running and the players took ownership of the culture going forward

from there each of the elders have passed on the culture of winning & the standards
was passed down > resulting in = premierships in 1979 & 1987 it was again not the best side in terms of Talent but they had never trained harder and the players ''bought in'' and always on the back of great leadership on the ground with Fitzpatrick [Jezza trained them relentlessly]in 79 and Kernahan 87[ Robert Walls trained them like a madman (ala Barassi)] = MAGNIFICENT CAPTAINS/ inspirational coaches who were hard and demanding

1995 was an exception because they're all champions and the checkbook[ brown paper bags too] got us the best talent from all over Australia... Anybody could have coached that team

I think we've got the tools in place now[ like the additions this off-season]... So it's up to Voss/ the leadership group and a bit of luck through injury and illness to set the course. They really have to get harder & Hewett/Cerra/Walsh/Cripps/Weiters etc will transform this enough IMHO...WE HAVE THE TALENT NOW FOR SURE!.... We need a bit of momentum & beating Richmond in the first round of 2022 would be the place to start.... We need to put wins on the board and keep building on that momentum [ understanding there will be slip-ups but not relenting on the standards]

Firstly, I never said Mitchell was a better player than Petracca, there would be no hesitation who I’d choose if I were to have a choice. They are vastly different players.

My point in that post was, why would Sydney’s, Brisbane’s, Geelongs, even the Bulldogs and Ports midfields be better than ours, if we added Michell?

I don’t think it would be better than Melbourne’s fwiw, not unless Cripps got back to close to his best

because they have wingman and aren’t one paced?
