Oh look, Michael's back and brought his personal little raincloud with him again...
Hewett is a great get. Cerra at the right price but this board is acting as if Lewis Young has shown something.
I hope we turn him around but be realistic this is very speculative on form. The guy appears to be a gap filler for a few years not a 100 game player.

Yeah but we seem to be attracting a much higher quality of list clogger now.

I don't really see anyone pumping him up too much.
Will be a latish pick on little money for a 23yo (at the start of next year) KPP who can fill in on all 3 lines (replacement for Levi). An intercept defender who can actually get on the park in place of Marchy and possibly replace Jones in a year or two as 2nd tall defender.

Given the likely cost, of course it's speculative. You don't get young guns for nothing, but worth a chance.

Young is at best a depth player right now. Wouldn't be keen to give even a third rounder, fourth rounder or a pick upgrade should suffice. He has been played out of position though so not impossible he improves with us. Was hoping for a best 22 third tall option (Clurey) but we don't have much currency.

Austin has done well to fill gaps in the list. Talk of Hanrahan means we are well aware of the void on the wings and small forwards. But we really need to fill the gaps with our development and injury management now. I have high hopes for Philp, Kemp and Durdin

Young did play in both the Dogs' EF and SF wins....

Had a 2 year deal under his nose. They clearly thought he went ok....

Clurey on around 600k for the last two years of his deal - way too much to be coughing up for him anyway. Maybe if we could get him on the cheap and stretch this contract out over 3 year it’s a bit more pallettable but I can’t see us going for him.

Sure, Young is a bit speculative. But I'm not sure why that needs to be thrown out in fairly callous fashion per your original post. "Doesnt seem good in any position", "13 games in 2 seasons then delist"? Could have quite easily said "Depth tall who will get a few years to try and earn a senior spot" and you've communicated your point without the need for your usual persistent pessimism.

Draftees are all speculative picks based on junior form, depth players from other clubs are mostly speculative picks based on reserves form and limited senior form - very few acquisitions for any AFL club are 100% sure things where you know you are getting a player who will come in and perform to a high standard for the duration of their contract.

Lewis Young is a 22yo with a few senior games under his belt in multiple positions. Never been settled in one. Maybe that's based on his ability, or maybe it's the senior coach at WB who is well known for throwing players around various positions with little obvious rhyme or reason. Young was offered a 2yr deal, knocked it back and requested a move to Carlton. Seems likely to me that we've pitched a more settled role moving forward so he can hopefully build some consistency and extend his career. And we'll very likely get him for not much at all.

I’m not sure anyone is suggesting that Young is anything more than a depth player that can cover across the lines should injuries occur, with the potential to exceed expectations and develop into a regular best 22 player. For the likely price we will have to pay to secure him, this feels like smart list management to me. We are crying out for KPP depth.

Not every player on a list can be a gun. We don’t have unlimited trade resources and currency to poach the best key defenders. Chances need to be taken on players like this to fill gaps in the list. Draft best available and trade for needs. Hopefully at the draft we can land a quality developing tall prospect but the chips will fall where they may.

We need some key position depth. Young should come cheap and provide that.

Esspecially needed another tall now Casboult has finished up.

OMac and Young should be solid back ups for Jones and Weitering. And can also swing forward.

We may even chase another tall in the draft
