It's funny, they sign up for it when they join the league....

Don't like it, play local footy

They are very young when they sign up to the afl and are bound by their rules .
Should they wish to leave that club for whatever reason they basically are at the mercy of that club as you where they go which I dont think is right .
I understand the mechanics of the system but don’t agree with the restraint of trade .

Wish the AFL would finally get rid of the PSD, give the clubs some power back...
If you're offered a contract and no trade gets done, either re-sign or go back in the draft with your terms...

I completely agree with this!!!

.... Now that we have Jack Martin...

A Court would likely find any restraint of trade clause in a player’s contract unenforceable. Courts will balance the restraint of trade versus a player’s freedom to choice where they want to play.

Even if a player signed a restraint of trade clause, it’d be void because he plays in a unique and relatively small industry and his employment prospects outside his club is limited.

The AFL’s whole drafting / trading system is a legal challenge wanting to happen.

Doesn't make it right. Police are told what station in many instances. Especially what hick town. Ask a soldier what war he is happy to go to? Plenty of people are in special circumstances. This is not USA. The game is looking after itself for a reason.

Gee, if we suddenly end up with Voss, Hamill and Solomon on our coaching panel - there’s no way any player is going to get away with soft efforts at a contest lets just say that… all three tough as nails.
Add to that Greg Williams as football director, and Luke Power who was also tough as nails as a player.

This an opinion, or a bluemour? Either way, he's an interesting prospect:

Reads like Dow with a higher base but a lower ceiling.

Have you ever hit a nail with a hammer and the SOB bends. These three don’t bend - they’re tough as diamonds. There’s also a small buzz around that Scarlett wants to continue coaching but just wants a short break after falling out with Scott. Now I’d be shatting myself if they all walked into a team meeting.

The importance of a tactician is seriously being overrated around here and afl media. It's become another silly buzzword / concept.
Disagree. Games can be turned on positional moves, nullifying opposition strengths through strategy, how a team will move a ball from one end to another against certain teams they don't do against others.

Yep. Especially when we (the internet nuffies) have no idea about the actual skill sets and tactical minds of those we hire.

This idea that we need the assistant coach equivalent of a chess grandmaster is growing legs because it's such a simplistic and convenient concept.

Is Yze a tactical genius, or did he simply land at a club right in their sweet spot, with a list receptive to his ideas about ball movement and capable of executing them?

One tackle and two behinds?
Welcome to Carlton son. Come in, sit down.

Voss and Hamill in, Marc Murphy out

Feels like a good shift in driving aggressive standards

2022 we need

-Cripps back to his best
-Curnow back to 80%
-McGovern to give us something
-Injury free run for Martin
-Injury free run for Williams
-Injury free run for Doc
-One of Stocker, Dow, Setterfield, Honey, Williamson, O'Brien or Fisher to surprise everyone and become a star

Even if we don't have a specific assistant doing tactics & strategy we at least need brains behind the scenes doing data analytics and opposition analysis.

A strategist is crucial but I don't believe Jennings fits the bill. He's great at strutting out themes and motherhood statements but when have you heard him discuss the nuts and bolts of the game. At the end of the day, they are gimmicks that drive the mindset and thought processes of the players which can be of value, but it's not the role of a tactician. We need someone who can help us innovate and counter on game day. Someone who can assist the senior coach in implementing an innovative game structure that the players will buy into and that will hold up against the scrutiny of opposition tacticians.
I also dont believe Jennings is a team player. Any assistant coach who engages a manager to source him media exposure whilst being an assistant coach has to be questioned. I'm reliably informed that didn't sit well with the Demons coaching staff and contributed to his downfall.
There's better options out there.

Yep, but this idea that we need to have a specialised A-Team of assistants is getting a little bit comical. We need the gruff but lovable hard nut, we need the scary old dude, we need the nurturing relationship builder, we need the aloof tactical genius - once we complete the set we're guaranteed a flag.

Yes, we need tactical acumen. But that doesn't need to be a single individual with godlike omniscience. Just someone in the group who sees the game a little differently and has a bit of a creative streak, and a senior coach and coaching group who are open-minded enough to then adopt some new ideas on the fly to see what works.

2022 isn't a flag year for us, it's a cultural reset, I'll be happy with a robust gameplan and a big lift in minimum standards, because with the talent on our list we can overachieve with a rudimentary gameplan and then build extra tactical layers over a few years which propel us deeper into finals.

McCartney knows how to coach. Iirc was 2010 assistant coach of the year. Has played key role in demons success.
Had major falling out with runaway captain, Ryan grifen. I know nothing about his fall out with Griffen... would be interested to hear anyone's take on the Griffen situation which led to his quitting as bulldogs coach.
