Future second for current second
Good.

This years top end doesn’t excite me much, but it looks fairly balanced.

There’s a clear directive to add young talent and Austin has historically done well in that range both at the Bulldogs and in his couple of drafts at the Blues.

Wait, isn’t next years draft stronger and deeper . Already given up our third so not sure what the theory is here…
The next years draft is always stronger ;) but odds on we aren’t going to have a high pick anyway.

I’d love to grab a slider eg George in this one.

Shows that our window is 'now' and the club is fair dinkum about going for it next couple of years
In reading the article it actually sounds like we are trying to get as many picks in that mid-range to package up to get an earlier pick.

Do we maybe try to get the Pick 5 from Gold Coast for Pick 10 and a second rounder?

I’m not sold on the top end, but maybe we’re trying to grab a specific player. Similar to Port trading up to get Rozee in 2018.

Love this time of year, apparently Bailey Smith is coming to us 🤣

I can see us coming for Sheezal.

Basically be out version of Rozee in 2019, Perkins in 2020 or Rachele this year.
Would be more like Stephenson for Pies in 2018 imo.

Swap future 2nd for current 2nd doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but I'm sure they've got reasons. Reasons.
Austin today - 'We hope so we can challenge next year'

I think he's going to hit this draft hard as its full of quality role player types even if its lacking the outright match winners of past draft crops.

Same-same.

Half-forward with lots X-factor who can produce some good footy and challenges his direct opponent from the get go.

Been a while since we had that kind of player in the front half.

Go for some more meat and potatoes footballers with our later picks.

Fish will be in choppy waters if Austin can swing this

My intel:

No names to report. Nobody has yet shaken loose that fits our salary slots and trade value.

Club likely shifting into facilitator mode. Helping others get trades done where we benefit for suitability.

After trading our first picks away recently this year is about accounting for list profile.

Not sure adding a 2nd round pick is the difference between us challenging next year or not. But, ok. Just colour me doubtful.

Our future second would have to come with something else, doubt any other club would want to trade out their current second for our future. Just what we add to that, who knows. Future second and pick 10, move up the order. Future second and Dow for an early second round pick? Future second and third rounder for another clubs second to try and get another pick in the top 30?

How many 2nds does Gold Coast have left? They need points for next year

Some teams need or value picks more for next year. Ie. Brisbane.

Bowes, Bruhn and Ollie Henry after winning the premiership? This upsets me.

3 talented young players to go along with the likes of SDK, Close, Holmes & Stengle. Suddenly their youth would look really good and they'll regenerate on the run, most likely still contending other the next few years.
Geelong are really well run, and I'm a bit jealous to be honest. Hopefully Cook can instill similar systems and professionalism at Carlton. With those players coming in I wonder if we can shake out a fringe player at all.
