Wow I’m no trade expert but this setters trade stinks of a s*** trade!
Future fourth!!! And we give pick 68 what the hell!??can someone smarter at this than me please explain how this is remotely good!?
I just can’t see it!

Bewildered!

Save money for more important players. Bank the 4th round next year for whatever we need it for. Get rid of the ‘junk’ picks from this year as the bombers wanted them…

We would have delisted him I think…

Thanks mate. Didn’t think he was on much money though?
Finger crossed we bundle up the future 4th with something else to trade up.
I know he was I contracted but was hoping he’d be worth more in trade value for us.
Clearly not! Haha!

Out of contract, bombers could have walked him to the PSD for nothing most likely. Bombers can offer him best 22 and a better longer term contract than we would be willing to give a depth player. Makes sense for Will to leave under these circumstances and makes sense that we had no power in negotiations. The compensation pretty much allows us to push the points value of the fourth round pick back a year rather than it go to waste with no selection likely to be made by us at 68 this year regardless.

The intention was to turn him into a mid...

If you can't knock that then fine. Your choice.

But he lacks the work ethic required to get his fitness up to speed to play there.

We are giving him gun mid money to play off half back.
Didn't see any issues with his workrate over the pre-season - came back incredibly lean and started the year well.

I also don't see any issues with the contract. When he brought him on board we were struggling to meet the TPP floor and his contract assisted us in doing that.

The midfield experiment didn't work, but if he can remain injury free and return to some good form 650k pa isn't that bad. Every list will have a couple of players earning above their output. We're fortunate that we have so many players currently performing above their contract price which more than balances out one mediocre contract.

Is anyone else waking up this morning feeling that * getting Setters for token a token pick just when we need mid-depth to contend for a premiership and he was just coming good a really not great, stupid idea?

Dodo really bothers me, like a leech that doesn't come off even with fire or salt...
Nope.

Footy is a team sport.

Setterfield should have played better in the roles that were assigned to him so the coaching group could actually justify giving him more time at the stoppages over players who are objectively better than him on the inside.

Why should he be rewarded for not performing at his best while the rest of the midfield group are dominating?

If you're behind in the pecking order it's up to you to start outcompeting those players that are ahead of you, and that begins with 100% commitment to whatever role you're placed in - which is given based on what is best for the squad as a whole.

The fact Setterfield only really started putting in when our midfield was decimated and his career at Carlton was on the line was telling. You don't want blokes hanging around only wanting to play on their terms.

So what you're saying is that he and * deserve each other?

Exactly. He is not in our strongest side. People need to raise their standards a little . Glad he if off to be essendoned. He won't improve over there so no loss in my books
He will get better numbers simply because he'll be in the middle much more.

I think the thing with Ed is that he's still the only player we have who can perform a run with role. I'd like to give someone else a job next season and I don't think Cerra is the one.

Cottrell is the obvious one with his tank but I'm not sure he is smart enough. I wonder if Owies could man up a slower mid or if Corey Durdin could do an Aaron Joseph or Anthony Franchina job.
Hewett and Setterfield could do it in 2022. Wouldn't mind Carroll having a go at this for periods in games. Help with his development.
