It’s really dirty pool, u sign a contract which gives u $1m, buy a house based on that then get paid out $250k - it’s so far from acceptable it’s not funny, especially when your employer has pulled the trigger early and given u every reassurance that your job is stable

*with the contact stipulating that any payout is limited to 6 months.....

if it is true they only have to pay out 6 months, then coaches would be well aware of that clause.

Ratten would still be blindsided by being sacked but not by the 6 month payout

It was a strange re-signing with Ratten coming off a soft early season draw. Not sure what they hoping to achieve- some sort of show of support I guess. He's proven he's a quality assistant several times, if he wants a return and there is a spot. Just leave him out of list management meetings..

Would be my same view, however the Essendon coaching gig is more of a poisoned chalice with the horrendous administration. If you're comparing the two, I'd say St Kilda would be a more ideal (and that's not to say it is in fact ideal) coaching environment for an untried coach, than Essendon.

If it is in the contract that you get 6month payout then you are getting what you are owed. It is a cut throat business especially if you take a job for a complete joke of a organisation. It is not like Ratts ever got a senior gig because someone retired.

Another way of looking at it is that Ratts has got a payout he never should have got and has $250k for doing nothing

employment arrangements aren’t at will and while there may be a termination clause within the contract, the employer would generally have to show cause.
