Why play close to a full strength side in the first two weeks if they didn't expect/want to win?
I think you're right. They wanted a win first up, for the sake of confidence, if nothing else, & then coming up against a weakened Hawthorn side, we had to win otherwise it would have raised the same old question marks we have become used to in recent years. Having achieved this, it was time to set the focus on Round 1, as there is nothing more for us to achieve in the NAB Cup this year.
We have an opportunity to start the home & away season with a flourish, with winnable games against Richmond, Brisbane & Essendon. Tomorrow night's match against Geelong will have no impact on how we fare in the home & away season & is being treated as such.
