Better than Carey?
Over their Careers not even close. For a period around 95 - 97 he was actually rated higher than Carey at that particular time. The thing people forget about CG is that he was an exceptional CHB. He was shifted forward by Terry Wallace around 97. Grants kicking let him down often as a CHF and I think that has a bit to do with how people remember him which is how it should be.
If you ever get a chance watch the Dogs vs Roos game in 1998. It was the last round and the winner would finish on top. Grant and Carey were both firing, one of the best H&A games i have ever seen. Roos won and went on to win the flag.

Stringer and Macrae are obviously young talents, but the Bont is something else.

Bont has "once in a generation" type potential. We are talking about the next Grant / Johnson for the dogs, potentially more
Beyond Grant / Johnson. We're talking Carey, Voss, Hird, Judd - the kind of singular player at a team that emerges as a superstar and brings the rest of the group with him. Where you can pinpoint the moment when a club was going to end up premiers as when that player first came to attention.

Carey was AA CHF in 95 and 96. 96 was his 2nd best year kicking 82 goals. No way grant was rated higher in these years - maybe 97 when Carey was injured.

That last game was one of the best H&A game I ever saw in 98. We did however lose that grand final. We hated the Crows as much as you in the 90's!!!

grant was AA in 97 98 and 99 but I believe his best football was before that. I have a very strong recollection of David Parkin describing grant as the best player in the comp. can't recall exactly when it was.
It was great to watch grant on Carey for a few years before grant went back to the forward line. I really wish he had of stayed at CHB.
Grant was one goal and one wick to the head away from being a dual brownlow medalist. I think people would remember how great he was in that period in a few things went his way. I know brownlows aren't the be all and end all, simply saying it would change how people remember him.
A bit like Libba, he is remembered as a dirty player by most non Bulldogs supporters because of how he played in his last 4 or so years. They forget how much of a ball player he was and how many hurdles he had to get over to achieve what he did.

Sorry - you nominated Bonts as the player you did not want to draft - pre draft. Glad you are on the wagon now.
You've ignored what suits you and clung to what suits you. Yes my first impressions were bad but as your in depth research will show you, once I'd clued up on him I led the fight. Go on YouTube and look up a shiezen video. I put it up pre draft which has already been validated. News flash opinions change.

Lol - no research - I was reading the "who don't you want to draft thread" and suprised to see some anti Bont posters. Anyone anti would have changed by now.

Yep. Help yourself to the thread where it was revealed we were into him and the board nearly exploded furious about it. Pardon me if the difference between browsing bigfooty and one highlights video and genuine research on a player makes the bigfooty browser look like an idiot. Continue to ignore that I spent have a day learning how to make a video to convince people he was good.
