Re: Box Hill v Geelong 1.10pm TEAC Oval (Port Melbourne), Date TBC

Haven't been to a VFL game since Box Hills GF @ Optus Oval few years back!!

Q: Do HFC members get access or is that only during home and away?

15$ is extremely cheap and reasonable, Why pay over 60$ to attend an AFL Final??

Will probably head down depending on the weather, since its live on TV.

not even AFL members get free access to VFL finals games. its the biggest money spinner for the VFL (clubs dont get the money in these).

Is anyone else upset that its being played at port when its our "home" game?

Re: Box Hill v Geelong 1.10pm TEAC Oval (Port Melbourne), Sunday 6 Sept

Re: Box Hill v Geelong 1.10pm TEAC Oval (Port Melbourne), Sunday 6 Sept

disapointed Shoey isnt playing. would have loved to seen him play, give him experience in a final, and most likely against one of the most respected forwards in Football.

Re: Box Hill v Geelong 1.10pm TEAC Oval (Port Melbourne), Sunday 6 Sept

Kennedy, Shiels & Shoenmakers have had very heavy work loads over the last two months in the AFL so I think it is a good decision to rest them this week. I accept it is a risk in a knockout final, however if they freshen up it will no doubt increase our chances of winning the flag. Cross, Smith & Renton have been added to the interchange bench because of their outstanding form in the reserves. If Carl Peterson plays he alone could make it worth travelling to Port Melbourne.
Kenna & Sierakowski have injuries. Dew & Tuck have qualified and Moss, Renouf & Whitecross did not qualify.

Re: Box Hill v Geelong 1.10pm TEAC Oval (Port Melbourne), Sunday 6 Sept

I was hoping Dew got a game, I would love to see him go around one more time.
The fact he is not in this week suggests to me that we may not see him again.

How come Williams and Dew are eligible to play for Box Hill they have only play 1 or 2 games each.

And why is Whitecross not playing ?

I thought they had to play 7 games to qualify for the finals ?

Re: Box Hill v Geelong 1.10pm TEAC Oval (Port Melbourne), Sunday 6 Sept

That's a very strong looking Geelong side. I believe that, as their seniors are still involved in AFL action, they are not impacted by the 12/10 rule?

Geelong have named 18 AFL listed players to our 10 Hawks.

Podsiadly and Gamble are major dangers in the Cat's forward line. Trent West and Shane Mumford will prove a massive test for young Tim Walsh.

Lonergan, D Johnson, Tenace & Hogan have all played a fair amount of senior footy for Geelong this season.

We only have Williams and Yze who have played a reasonable amount of AFL footy. It will be a great effort if the BH boys can lift enough to win this game IMO.

As a stand alone club I'm pretty sure the 12/10 rule is not relevant to us regardless. If the seniors were out the players just have to have played the minimum number of games in the VFL to qualify or meet the injury adjusted requirements. It's happened before and I'm sure that is how it worked.

Infact I think it has been that way the last two years when Geelong have won the qualifying final and got the week off. Since the seniors weren't playing that week the VFL enacted the min games total clause.

Re: Box Hill v Geelong 1.10pm TEAC Oval (Port Melbourne), Sunday 6 Sept

Confirmation from the vfl board:
Officially (according to VFL record)...

VFL teams with AFL allignments can have a maximum 12 AFL players/AFL rookies and minimum 10 VFL listed players.

Geelong and Collingwood have no restrictions whilst their AFL team is still in the finals. But if the VFL team lasts longer than the AFL team then there is no 12/10 rule but players need to have played 7 VFL games to qualify or have been injured for a significant part of the season.

Thanks aquila. Would you believe I've spent three days trying to find the answer to that?

Re: Box Hill v Geelong 1.10pm TEAC Oval (Port Melbourne), Sunday 6 Sept

So how many players does it affect?

Who's played 7+ VFL games, that would otherwise be eligible except for the 12/10 rule?

Re: Box Hill v Geelong 1.10pm TEAC Oval (Port Melbourne), Sunday 6 Sept

Not long now until the Box Hill Hawks run out at Port Melbourne tomorrow for the big game against Geelong. Really important that we get a load of support for the boys so please get along to cheer the fellas on if you are Melbourne based.

I realise there is coverage on our friends 3WBC 94.1 (take your radio) and live on TV, but rest assured your efforts in attending and lending your support will be appreciated by the boys.

Go Box Hill!!

I watched the Collingwood v Casey game yesterday. I'm pretty sure Casey coach, Peter German, isn't too impressed with this rule. He commented to Phil Cleary at 3 quarter time that the result wasn't unexpected considering it was like "Collingwood v East Ringwood".

I'm pretty sure that Casey would have loved to have fielded a few more AFL listed players. There were no such restrictions on the Collingwood side and this was reflected in the result.

The problem wasn't the 12/10 rule but Melbourne. They chose to play on 3 players from their list. They could have played quite a few more but chose to rest them so that they could start pre-season sooner.

collingwood had the original rule changed when they won a premiership with williamstown in 2003 as they exploited it the same as they did yesterday.

rule will be ultered once more at seasons end

Re: Box Hill v Geelong 1.10pm TEAC Oval (Port Melbourne), Sunday 6 Sept

Box Hill are woeful. I haven't seen so many deplorable kicks in a long time. Kicking into the man on the mark 4 times in the first quarter from set shots is unforgivable.

Yze gone for 4 weeks with a nice bash to the head of Boustiadly
