Re: Box Hill Hawks vs Northern Bullants @ Box Hill City Oval

how did all we think the one trick pony in little went today. Could be wrong but don't think he got in the best. Will we ever see him in that prestigious brown and gold. For mine he is a player, but are we yet to see the true talents he has to offer. Fair enough he bobs up every week with 2-4 goals but does he need to do more before he gets the big call up that we all are waiting for.

What about roughhead, hasn't done nearly enough to warrant the amount of games he has got over the last three years. Fair enough a number 2 draft pick but that should not guarantee you games when you have players in the calibre of dawson, murphy, muston and maybe little waiting in the wings.

Lets not get started on the skinny red head used tampon josh utsie thurgood, what was john beveridge of hawthorn thinking when a, they drafted him in the first place and b, drafted him again after delisting him. fair dinkum the kid is 52 kilos ringing wet and does nothing to deserve being even involved with an afl club. GET RID OF HIM!!!

Re: Box Hill Hawks vs Northern Bullants @ Box Hill City Oval

Pressure cooker of a last qtr, and Matt did everything right. Josh as skinny as he is, is in the first 24/25 because nobody else is currently more worthy of being there, from amongst the others still playing for BH except for Renouf. Also Gibbo, but Gibbo is a different type of player.

Re: Box Hill Hawks vs Northern Bullants @ Box Hill City Oval

Can anyone give feedback on how young Suckling went in his first game?

Yes Suckling played in the reserves...
Was on limited game time seemed to come off every 10 mins interchanging between wing and the bench...

He was impressive in his first game... Attacked ball hard and won the hard ball... smart player who got free and was used in transition from backline...

footskills were immaculate cant remember missing a target.. would of had 20 disposals and kicked a goal from 55 m which is great...

any thing to add? anyone?

Re: Box Hill Hawks vs Northern Bullants @ Box Hill City Oval

Great the the team was finally able to finish the game with some running. I think the Tasmania game really gave them some confidence to boot... the fact that they put in to the end is really promising for future weeks.

Re: Box Hill Hawks vs Northern Bullants @ Box Hill City Oval

Agree stadiumking. Feel that the second half of the year, we might start to turn things around a bit. Nick Smith will only get better the more he plays with us, Dale Bull, Daniher and Kris Shore look solid, while Height's been fantastic, along with Matt Ball (we'll miss him when he heads overseas), Sam Gibson up on Hawthorns rookie list has come on in leaps and bounds. I thought our style of play in the 2nd half was great, more effort to get it into the corridor off half back, even though it was a bit risky sometimes and didn't always come off, but it gave our forwards more of a chance. What's Matt Littles chances of playing for Hawthorn? Hope he sticks with us, he's a good target at this level. Even though we've got Geelong and Williamstown in the upcoming weeks (grrr!), i think the fact we've got a final 8 in a 13 team comp will help us scrape into the finals. Good kids coming through!

Some huge names figuring here, including two current and one former AFL captains.

noteworthy:
J Hunt
T Harley
T Hawkins
S King
D Jacobs.
R Vandenberg

Was anyone else really impressed with Daniher last week?

Re: Box Hill vs Geelong

Cooky's out, copped a two week suspension.

No suprises there, pretty heavy hit.

Stadiumking wrote "Was anyone else really impressed with Daniher last week?" Yes, me. I thought he seemed to get the ball quite often and seemed to be able to do something with it.

Re: Box Hill vs Geelong

Daniher is a beautiful kick, more like one of his uncles than his dad. Very tragic turnover by him last week gave the bullants a goal, but otherwise a very good game.

ROUND SEVEN PREVIEW
By Tom Kelly

Round Seven action sees the Box Hill Hawks travel to Skilled Stadium to play in Saturday’s AFL Curtain-Raiser against Geelong.

The match comes a week after Box Hill’s loss to the Northern Bullants by six points at Box Hill City Oval.

The fast-finishing Hawks kicked six goals to two in the final quarter, but fell just short of Carlton’s VFL affiliate.

Box Hill was unable in the first half to move the ball with any purpose, kicking to congested forward situations and conceding the first five goals of the match.

The game opened up after the main break, however; and the Hawks finished full of running against last year’s Preliminary-Finalists, with Matt Little (three goals) figuring in a much-improved forward line. The final scores were 13.9.87 to 13.15.93.

Captain Kristan Height played a mammoth game running from half-back, finishing with upward of 30 touches. Sam Gibson (three goals), Zac Dawson and Joel Smith were also influential.

Midfielder Richard Eva said that the Hawks’ win against Tasmania the previous week had given them “a fair bit of confidence” to run out the match - “belief in ourselves that we were able to make up the margin”.

In contrast to Box Hill, Geelong sits on top of the VFL ladder with five wins from its six matches.

The Cats come into the game having won their last five in a row, including last week’s 32-point victory against the Bendigo Bombers at Skilled Stadium, 20.16.136 to 16.8.104.

Former Demon Phil Read kicked four goals for the Cats, while ruckman Steven King also kicked four in a best-on-ground display. Other notable performers included AFL-listed players Max Rooke, Tim Callan and Shannon Byrnes.

The last time the two sides met was in Round 13 last year, when Geelong were 44-point winners at Skilled Stadium. Ex-Cat Kent Kingsley (four goals) and James Kelly starred for the Cats, while Nick Ries, Matt Ball and Jason Cook (two goals) were the Hawks’ best.

Eva said the side would have to be accountable in trying to stop the Cats’ run.

“They’ve got some big guys there,” he said; “we’ll have to hurt them on the rebound”

The match will unusually feature one former and two current AFL captains, with Steven King, Tom Harley and Ritchie Vandenberg all named for their respective sides.

Danny Jacobs will also play for Box Hill, while Jarryd Roughead and Joel Smith have returned to the Hawthorn side.

The Reserves meet the Casey Scorpions for the second time in 2007 at Box Hill City Oval on Sunday.

The sixth-placed Hawks come off a 77-point victory against the Northern Bullants, while the Scorpions are yet to register a win this year.

Luke Barker (four goals) and Kris Shore were Box Hill’s best players when the two sides met in Round Two at Casey Fields, helping the Hawks to a 55-point win.

The Seniors’ Skilled Stadium match on Saturday starts at 10:40am, while the Reserves play at Box Hill on Sunday at 2pm. It would be great to see plenty of brown and gold at both matches, supporting the improving Hawks outfits.

Re: Box Hill vs Geelong

Some people are beating the drum of Zac Dawson. Christensen included, in the Age today. Very over the top exaggerations, but we all want Zac to realise the potential of at least some of the past champions that wore the no. 26. According to SEN yesterday, and their stats dept. 30% of draftees get to 50 games. Up to the end of last season, Zac had 14. My blank HAWTHORN jumper will have 26 on it with Huddo, Rocket and Zac, when we all celebrate his 50th.

Re: Box Hill vs Geelong

Sensational victory! Following the updates on 774 (the most regular i found) and was rapt to hear we'd won it! Couldn't get down there, especially for 10:30! Just not a good footy time for me on a Saturday! Good to see someone stand up and kick goals without Little or Cook. Even though we had some big inclusions, Vandemburg, Jacobs etc., i don't think this is why we would've won as Geelong also had some very strong AFL players back too. Hate Geelong in the VFL! We'd only be a game out of the 8 now, and off the bottom too!

Re: Box Hill Hawks vs Northern Bullants @ Box Hill City Oval

Kurt Batt will replace Little no worries. The guy is a gun!

Re: Box Hill Hawks vs Northern Bullants @ Box Hill City Oval

He has been playing full-forward in the reserves. Missed a few games with a hamstring though. Would be one of the best marks going around and has a fairly strong body.

Re: Box Hill vs Williamstown - Saturday, June 2, Box Hill City Oval

Watch out for the Battman! Should be playing seniors after his 10 goal haul last week!
