I reckon he's good as here , he's spoken to Ross, informed the Hawks of his intensions and they said they will do what they can to get a deal done, just a gut feel on my part. Thinking next years second rounder or a player swap.

Some lad said that GCS gonna be involved.

Pick 3 to GCS, O'Meara to Hawks & Hill to Freo. Made me laugh that someone would think that trade can even be said with seriousness.

Cobbler so you wouldn't want to downgrade pick 3 to Pies First rounder that GWS have?

I'd be up for it.

Depends what our club value in regards to the draft. If there is someone top 3-4 that we feel are game changers then we obviously just keep our pick.

I've stated many times I'd prefer we change pick 3 into 8 and 17 or whatever we can.

We use 8 on English who is the best ruckman in the draft and an area of need. He would do a year or 2 under Sandilands. We move on Clarke and get whatever we can.

Pick 17 could then be used in negotiations for Hill or McCarthy, but I'd honestly still want something in return.

I think we need to hit the draft and a bunch of 3rd rounders isn't going to make an impact.

I'm also cautious on future trading as it severely limits any bargaining we may have for a gun player next year with obviously Hogan the biggest drawcard.

I think the scenario by someone else with regards to Collingwood was about as spot on and equitable as I could find.

Collingwood receive Langdon and lose pick 25
Hawks lose Hill and gain cap space
Freo receive Hill and lose Langdon.

2 guys get home and plays with their brothers. Hawks free up cap space and get a pick to introduce some youth. In this scenario Collingwood is probably unders so we may swap out 3rd with theirs or Hawks might depending on where the balance needs to come from.

I dunno.

SPS reminds me of Maurice Rioli so if we gave up the chance to get him I'd be gutted.

Personally I hope they seal McCarthy and make a deal for Hill that excludes pick 3 and our first next year.

Second round next year? Done.
Langdon and a third? Done but I think Langdon will be very good.

McCarthy and SPS is a VERY good start on a rebuild.
A developing ruck with our third would round it.

We could possibly help with the recruitment of McCarthy to Freo. With our first round pick.

X fingers hopefully + Bennel and Balic and that is four genuine first rounders

I would seriously hope not. If it's taking a first to land him, then we're paying overs.

I don't want to give up pick 3 either, but if ti becomes truly stubborn then the downgrading picks definitely assists GWS and we just re-prioritise in who we wish to select.

I'm not against any method as such. Would love SPS with pick 3, but we have an opportunity to pick up McCarthy, Hill and English for a pick that was heading to GWS.

We can only lose out in this draft if we just don't play smart. It would be very hard to actually stuff it up. Absolute worse case is we dont get Hill or McCarthy but we still have pick 3 to use on a young gun. We really can't lose this draft period.

Good article by Duffield in the Worst Australian today. He says don't sell the farm, I concur.

Let him get out of contract, then get him cheap.

Love this bit.

"One newspaper report yesterday put the trade price for the three-times Hawthorn premiership player at a draft pick between 15 and 20. Please. If the Dockers fall for that I have a second-hand Ford Focus to sell them. It’s a steal at $30,000. As God is my witness!"

Nick Rynne said in a Tweet, "The people who think that Brad Hill is worth a first round pick are the same people who thought that Jed Anderson for pick 15 was a good deal for North."

First off what is McCarthy worth?

First off what is McCarthy worth?

Depends who you talk to. Much would depend on what sort of condition he has kept etc. A year out and with mental health issues? I'd say he comes free.
As an athletic young forward that suits the modern game and a dead eye dick, he's worth every bit of a 1st.

As a contracted player he's worth a first. As someone who has refused to go play AFL and signaled his intentions that he'd rather sit out then play away from family he's worth nothing.

That's obviously where all the debate comes from Freo say worth not much. GWS say he's worth a 1st rounder or throw in ridiculous wants like Walters.

Honestly as much as it's bad for the kid and for the development of our club I'd offer GWS a big bag of dicks and if they don't accept let them pay his wages as he stays on their list. There's no way they offer him a contract the following year and we get him for free as a delisted free agent. I think they're close to delisting him this year, there were rumours. This may still happen if Freo decide to offer nothing and GWS don't release him.

It's pretty sad really.

I reckon this article is 100% on the money https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/afl/a/32138742/mark-duffield-dont-get-sucked-in-freo/#page1. Surely the club wouldn't look past a player and an exchange of 2017 picks or say 2017 second rounder? Otherwise, he will have to wait out a year at the Hawks where, unfortunately, his output may decline again if he doesn't want to be there. Not sure Clarkson will gamble on that, so despite the bluster, a pragmatic deal will get done. Unfortunately for the Hawks, a player like Hill is about a 5th priority for Freo, with far more important positions to shore up first.
Great article. Anyone else feel this was a look out bondy from duff?

Young kids are signing contract extensions very quickly. At the end of the day they're just kids. To hold them to ransom is pathetic. Our offer of 2 first rounders was really a ridiculous price to pay for any player.

I mean Franklin went for pick 19? So GWS just play hardball to suit their agenda. They'd easily let a player go and did it last year with several blokes if it suits them.

I'd honestly really hope we didn't get drawn into the glitz and glamour that Hill brings to the Hawks. These are professionals running clubs. Ok I can excuse the odd Sylvia moment, but we know what we're getting in Hill.

He's a highly skilled frontrunner. He'll get 12-15 touches a game at Freo, but it will improve our delivery.

When they weight that up, hopefully they make the right choice.

Also it could have a positive or negative impact on Stephen. Maybe too comfortable or really bring out some rivalry.

I'm very fearful that Brad Hill at 23 and 3 premierships won't put in the hard work, especially when the chips are down. Don't know him from a bar of soap, but it can be human nature. I mean what really is there for him to achieve? Except being part of Freo's first flag. Will that be enough to drive him.
