That doesn't make any sense though. If we were going to offer him more money than we are offering him now (at any stage), then it would make sense to offer it to him now, because there is more chance of getting him to sign for less now, than if we have to try and match any offers he receives from other clubs from Oct 1.
If it gets to that stage, then we're out of the game, because we won't want to match any offers, when we could almost certainly sign him up for less now.
From what I understand he still wants to stay and is willing to do so for less money than other clubs will offer him/have offered him, so it would be crazy for us to then wait till free agency starts and then end up paying him what he was prepared to go to another club for, when he will stay for less than that (although more than we are currently offering him), if we offered it to him now.

With our season over now the telling stuff starts to begin. We can now make enquiries to Goddard and other possible free agents. No doubt a few more rumours will start to circulate. Goddard would look good slotting into our team..
I can't help but think about our kicking. Someone who can send a ball 55-60m with low trajectory would be invaluable. Even if he plays off the half back line, his kicking is a weapon we could definitely use. The likes of DeBoer, Crowley, Barlow, Fyfe, Mzungu, Pearce are not what you would call elite kicks by any stretch of the imagination.

You mean like Hill, Suban, Pearce, Pitt etc?
Suban is a fringe player. Pitt will be lucky to even play a game for us, and his so called elite disposal has been atrocious at AFL level. Hill for sure, but that is just one (along with Mundy), and he needs to get more of the ball. Pearce has a massive kick, but I'm not sure he is a precision passer over long distance. Great for bombing at the goals though.
We only have 2 genuine top shelf kicks roaming between the 50m arcs - Hill and Mundy. And even those guys are sometimes not huge stat gatherers. Duffield has a pretty good kick coming out of the defensive 50. Get a guy like Goddard having 20 kicks a game, and it would make a big improvement.

I rather have Goddard then Cloke. His cheaper, can play back, midfield and forward.

Can absolutely guarantee you blokes aren't getting Goddard. But there is something in the works out of left field that my sauce wouldn't provide any additional info on.

Morabito and Goddard can both roost the ball 55-60 metres effortlessly.
Add Mundy and Hill and you have four elite level long kicks running between the arcs.
If we get more games out of Nic Suban next year , playing where he is better suited in the forward line, Freo's firepower into the forward line will be the strongest in the comp.
