It needs to start later if they're hoping the lead up to the men's game will boost the crowd

People aren't going to go up at 2pm to sit around for 3 hours after the game has finished.
there is a NEAFL trial game scheduled at metricon as well, if it is still there that technically means that the womens GF is a curtain raiser to a NEAFL trial, what a shemozzle and a slap in the face for our girls and the AFLW in general if that is the case.

i'll hit Kevin Mitchell Jnr up for the fare. if i see him at a lions game this season i'm going to boo him. he probably still calls our great game gayFL.

Probably not if it's meant to be raining as heavily as advertised (IE: non-stop until next Monday)

The relative open-ness of Metricon is a killer for a rain as well. I suspect a lot of people who may have gone for the heck of it won't go now. They'll get soaked. Especially since the GA end has no covers at all.
ffs. It just gets worse and worse.

the GF will finish around 4.30 so 2 1/2 hours before the Qclash, any tips on what to do around metricon with 4 adults and 3 young kids?

assuming our round 2 clash v essendon will be at metricon as well, or the grass will recover miraculously and be sweet for that game:rolleyes:
There is also an Neafl scratch match scheduled for that day as well.
But i doubt there is enough time to have it after. So it might need to be played before the womens game.

That game was moved a couple of weeks ago IIRC.

Nope. Genuinely the way I feel. I know what a few of these girls have gone through to get to this point and they deserve better.

They've also been given the opportunity of a lifetime and what's the alternative? Play on an unsafe Gabba?

Someone like Tayla Harris grows up playing footy with some of the players on our men's list.

All of them probably watched our grand final teams smash it at the Gabba and all of them probably dreamed of being out there one day.

AFLW was supposed to make that possible.

Instead, they've been relegated to a curtain raiser for the men's team at a neutral venue because the powers that be didn't value them enough to fight for them.

It flies in the face of the entire premise of the AFLW and once again, women's football has been put on the back burner and some of these peoples dreams of kicking a goal for the lions at the Gabba are dashed once again.

They deserve more than this

The ones that have been playing before now have always played on second rate suburban grounds that would be way worse than the the gabba is now.

But they weren't insured by the AFL or had the opportunity to sue the AFL, Gabba, etc. if Erin Phillips loses here WNBA contract.

Was looking forward to flying up going to ther gabba then a free bus put on by the club to Metricon.

Gold Coast is a hassle, airport is ages away from metricon then I have to find accomodation down there where as I usually stay right near the gabba and plus its meant to be raining and then have 2 1/2 to kill between games.

Really wanted to come up and support the girls but don't think I'll bother

The galling thing will be the irony of some AFL officials standing up on Saturday afternoon on the Gold Coast, telling the nation what a wonderful success the inaugural AFLW season has been. I urge them to look around at where they are standing, in the home ground of a club that doesn't even have a women's team.
Tell us again about how awesome it has all been organised. Tell us about the awesome venue of Brendale, where unless you turn up early, you can't see the ****ing game over the heads in front of you. Or the genius of midday games in Qld's summer. Then tell us much we can't wait to see the ball bounce.*

*At the first test.

Safety is a cop out. Not the reality.
After this rain and a couple of dry days at the end of the week. The gabba will be as good as ever.
I will never go to a game of cricket at the gabba again.
Lets start a Boycott of the First Test at the Gabba.

If the afl came knocking on my door and said once off test to see if you can make it - play for a year for peanuts, stay with your day job and pay for your own medical treatment, I'd do it. But not for multiple years.

Will the club provide buses from the gabba to metricon for all the people they have f'ed in this saga?
I am not sure I want to stay to watch the men's game. I am spitting chips at the moment. If we go
to metricon, we are going to held hostage there unless buses back to brisbane are provided? I don't have
Any respect for Anyone but the players and coaching staff at this time. I think that the gabba won't see me again.

Lets be honest, since day 1 the AFL have been working out a way to get the Grand Final down at Metricon and they finally found their loophole.

If Brisbane was playing Essendon this week not next they would have made sure the ground was up to scratch.

Actually, then again, so the Lions and Crows are playing off a 6 day break, make it April 1st at the Gabba, oh no cant have common sense.

Massive over-reaction
Mate, kindly stfu. You've been passive-aggressively posting against the AFLW comp the whole time it's running, nobody wants to hear your half-baked ideas atm.

could i be so cynical to suggest the KMjnr at no stage put any attempt in to get the gabba ground ready for a potential AFLW GF post the Adele concert.

i'd bet my season ticket on it.
He has done everything he can to **** it up.
And succeeded.

Well, if player safety is an issue, will the 6 week break for the Gabba go ahead? If so, that's 2 games for the men that end up in the bin too.

Complete schmozzle!

If the ground staff have put in 100% to get the surface upto scratch, I will eat a clump of that outfield!

Wasn't there an independent auditor of the ground?

I would hope the club doesn't have to wear that financial burden. The AFL or Stadiums Queensland should be covering those costs and giving away free tickets to the QClash for each seat on the bus.
