Everybody seems to talk about how Brisbane has been the strongest team of this decade, I disagree completely. Geelong and Hawthorn are far stronger teams the only issue is the two teams themselves. They are that good that the competition is too stiff for them to win consecutive flags. If Geelong or Hawthorn had to play the Collingwood of 2001,2002 and Port Adelaide (which Geelong wiped the floor with) we would be looking at a team winning 5 straight Grand Finals.

2000 - The played an injury plagued Bombers team that would of wiped the floor with them had they been not completely run down.
2001 - Played a brave but very lacking Collingwood team in regards to previous Grand Finalists before that
2002 - Again played a very weak Collingwood side that would be no match for the Hawthorn, Geelong teams of today.

Brisbane should be known as the team that dominated a very ordinary competition.

i dont believe any premiership is a easy 1 to win, i think they r all as hard as each other. if the brisbane team was around now and played with the same kinda rules back then i think they would smash geelong and hawks. 3 brownlow players in the midfield, extremely strong forward and backline as well as a good ruck. could not ask for a better team and they will be 1 of the best teams ever i think

cmon mate, at least get the years right in which they won the grand finals, to make 4 grand finals on the trot from 2001 to 2004 is a super effort. you could mount a case that geelong of 2007 had no real oposition and essendon of 2000 had no opposition. completely stupid thread. they won three premierships and well done to them.

Absolutely no idea.........

Crap thread. No premiership is easy to win, as I should know as a Pies supporter. 3 in a row is an incredible effort anyway you cut it.

It's interesting you say Geelong would towel up the Lions side today. I disagree. Brisbane's backline would have it all over Geelong's forward line. The midfield is pretty even with Bartel,Ablett,Corey,Ling,Selwood on a similar level to Black,Akermanis,Power,Lappin,Voss (although maybe slightly favouring Brisbane) and Brisbane's forward line fairly even to Geelong's backline however Lynch, Brown and Bradshaw would probably be too much for an Egan lacking Geelong defence. The Lions ruck department of Keating, Charman, McDonald would have quite easily outdone Ottens and Blake. Hawthorn is another story however in a very quick summary Brisbane's forward line would most likely towel up the Hawks current backline, with midfield and Brisbane's backline/Hawks forward line being more even. I'd still think Brisbane would be able to have 6 goal wins over both the teams.

sounds like you are just angry that brisbane ruined your chance of back to back flags. I think if you had Brisbane from 02 -03 compared to geelong and hawkthorn of now Brisbane would win in a close 1 they had the fab 4 midfielder plus Lynch and Brown

The AFL made it very easy for them.

They sure did.

They gave Collingwood favourable home and away draws meaning that our opponent on grand final day in 2002 and 2003 wasn't premiership quality.

lol... if you ask Geelong they are still the greatest team of all time. They weren't beaten last year they just lost!!!

Any team who wins 3 in a row, and makes it a 4th year running, is a fantastic team. Who can argue that?

I think there is ...some... truth in it...

....Not that they were the three easiest to win premierships, not at all.

...But once Brisbane had actually made the Grand Final in each year, they were not playing against great sides. (and I'm saying that as a Collingwood supporter).

.......And ironically, I think the side that got closest to beating Brisbane was the worst team. Collingwood 2002.

IIRC we beat Port Adelaide in the first final by 1 or 2 points. Liccuria dominating the game in perhaps one of the top 5 individual performances in the last decade.

....The real question for me is had the Lions have played

2001 - Essendon
2002 - Port Adelaide
2003 - Port Adelaide

Would they have won 3 in a row?

Personally, I feel that they wouldn't have.

....But at the end of the day, they were the best team in each of the grandfinals, and were the team that stood up through the finals (as opposed to the *best* team, port adeliade, choking)

....As for the comparisions against Geelong and the Hawks lets include Gary Ablett Snr and Leigh Matthews for the Cats and the Hawks as we seem to be considering 2001 Lynch combined with 2003 Brown.

Let's throw in 2008 as well....

Why stop there? Id go as far as saying it would be in the Top 10 of Most Ridiculous Posts ever Posted on an Internet Forum in the history of the Internet.

And Geelong '07 and Hawthorn '08 would not even beat North Melbourne '99 or '96.

I don't think they were soft premierships, but they did come up against easy opposition in two of the Grand Finals. Plus Port Adelaide choked a couple of times and didn't make it to the big dance. When they finally did, they beat the Lions.
