Traded Brodie Grundy [Traded to Melbourne for #27]

He never said Grundy would take a paycut.. You have been moving the posts to suit your argument. Move on
He suggested it as option which I said won't happen.

I had moved on yet here we are as you replied to my post.

Ironic...

Everyone assumes its a cap dump, might not be, could be just looking to move him on because he does not fit McRae's style of play.

Pies have said nothing re a dump, that is just the media saying it. They may be looking to trade into picks to build their list given its skewed age profile.

Possibly, but not often, if at all, playing highly rated 2nd year players Fin McCrae, Poulter and Henry who all showed good signs in their first years, defies that logic.

Both Wright and McRae are going all in to win now, which then makes trading Grundy even more dumbfounding.

Pies could have gone for Treacy for almost nothing. He is as good as McStay.

Grundy just comes across as a gigantic douche bag.
There’s also a couple quality KPFs potentially available at the end of 2023, but feels like they’re wanting to address this KPF deficiency ASAP this off season. If it were my choice, we’d be waiting for the plethora of quality KPFs coming into FA/OOC in 2023.

I’ve always said about Grundy, he’s probably the dumbest smart footballer I’ve ever heard speak. Uni educated, yet just seems aloof and from what we see, isn’t a team player by holding the club to ransom with this contract’s negotiation as is now evidenced by the club wanting to get rid of this contract off its books all together.

Holding the club ransom :drunk: is that what happened with Treloar too? Delusion at its finest.

I can almost get the salary drop, (it's the fact it's to one if the best teams in the league that's most concerning) but to use all that money, and some, on someone that hasn't provided anything to suggest they are worth anything close to that...

Grundy has to be absolutely cooked, can't be any other explanation for this madness.

Wasn’t sure where else to post this. With the AFL being more accepting of salary dumps, do you think we will see a situation in the future where say Collingwood could trade a draft pick to a team with more salary cap space available for them to pay a % of a Grundys wage for the duration of the contract, allowing Collingwood to retain Grundy?

We’ll be paying a big chunk of his salary, for pick 32 or 2023 2nd rounder.

****en madness. We really want him gone.

How many years do they pay some of his salary? All of the contract like Treloar?

Melbourne taking the piss getting a player of Grundy's quality and having someone else pay

It's not a bad idea but I couldn't see the AFL going for it. Would be good for a really bad team (say North of the last few years) to use their salary cap and while getting in more kids rather than over paying on spuds

Imagine the uproar if/when that kid gets their 3 years in the system at North, starts to show real potential, then the good teams just poach said player. Rinse and repeat of a vicious cycle.

Yeah that would be an utter mess

Football World - Why not just stick Grundy at FF and pay him the $900k...

Now they are in the same position to where they started...
But, paying ($600k pa long term) on players not on their list and swapped an A-Grader for a C-Grader...

As a Carlton supporter God I love this, don't change Collingwood list management...
You can't be serious... have you seen Grundy try and mark a football?

Given how desperate Collingwood seem to be to push him out the door, I would suspect that Grundy goes for a pick somewhere in the mid 20s if one can be scavenged. Retaining Grundy just doesn’t seem to be an option.

Come on mate.

Ruckman earning $1,000,000/year in a side that has learned to win plenty of games without him due to injury this year.

Cameron playing well and getting the job done on half or less the $$$.

They are bringing in more players via trade/FA.

This is just another poor list management decision similar to Treloar.

It's 100% a dump.

Possibly.
Plenty of options though.
He goes for a rubbish pick and a majority of his salary, or a high pick with pies paying a larger chunk of his salary.

Either way, I don't think most pies supporters want Grundy gone. It was just a terrible contract for everyone except Grundy at the time.
Terrible management at the time of a lot of players.
Bringing back Beams, the Treloar exit etc

Trade radio just suggested below 3 way trade…I almost threw up

Demons in: Grundy
Demons Out: Jackson, Pick 32 (and maybe Weiderman)

Freo in: Jackson
Freo out: Pick 13

Collingwood In: Pick 13, Pick 32 (and maybe Weiderman
Collingwood out: Grundy

Lol what a damned fleecing by Pies that would be. If the TPP pressure is as bad as reported then they'd be lucky to snag pick 13 for Grundy, let alone a sweetener like Weideman.

Demons getting reamed in this trade.

True.
And he just isn't worth the money he's being payed.
He's a good player, rather we didn't lose him, but that contract was madness

Agreed, but I think that the club as a whole is out of lockstep with their supporter base. I am guessing that if Grundy doesn't find a new home with a sufficient amount of time to spare in trade week, then Collingwood won't be able to get all of their trading done plus re-signing de Goey.
