Dennis Banks,Ryhce Jones etc must sit back laughing at this.

Heard "Bulldog" Murray on the Couldabeen's last weekend saying that he was almost ready to give back his Brownlow after the Dangerfield decision. Said he couldn't recognise the game he played and used to love. Said that the grounds were too hard now and that in his day you used to have to look out for the centre wicket area and the practice pitches but that the rest of the grounds were soft and that concussion's only happened from a biff behind the earhole! But eh??? what would the Bulldog know?

Watching replay now. It was bad. But players need to re set and be better trained. You can't sling.

Ziebels was more of a sling tackle than Grundy's and neither of them was one!
The only sling tackle I saw all day was one from Crisp or Adams and luckily the North Bloke didn't hit his head

One last silly scenario:
Based on the Grundy decision... would a finals team target a gun player from another team, get him done for high contact (concussion) and watch whilst said player gets two or three weeks for an act?

I watched it literally 25m away and it was HTB every day of the week. Look at the rules thou. There were 2 actions. The rules need to be re written.

If there was any justice and the AFL were actually serious about concussion and duty of care Ziebell would get a week and Grundy none.

But if you pin the arms you seriously need to either a) stop the action or b) control the fall.

Not meaning to be a smart arse but read the previous post. A proper tackle means drop the knees and the momentum carries both parties forward.

The AFL need to stop their PR battle and constant manipulation of the rules and simply apply what is there.

Direct from the AFL Rules page.

Strangely i cant see what rule Brodie broke

TACKLING
When the ball is considered to be in an opposing team’s possession, a player usually carries out a tackle to gain possession, or prevent the other team from maintaining control of the ball. Due to the contact nature of the sport, and the no offside rule, a player can be tackled from any direction. Because of this, teams often employ a shepherding method – where a player is protected by their own team when they have the ball as they are advancing on the field.

When tackling, the person conducting the tackle must do so below the shoulders and above the knees of the person they are tackling, and that player can be thrown to the ground. The tackler is not allowed to push in the back when tackling – making it quite a skill to do so correctly.

When a player is tackled, they must dispose of the ball, by either kicking or handballing it. If they do not, and had prior opportunity to have done so, they are penalised for ‘holding the ball’ and therefore a free kick is handed to the team of the player who made the tackle.

There are a variety of types of tackles which can be carried out in AFL:

  • Perfect tackle: Conducted when the opponent has had prior opportunity to dispose the ball, but makes it impossible for them to do so, such as pinning their arms which makes them not able to kick or handball it.
  • Gang tackle: When a player is tackled by more than one opponent at the same time.
  • Diving tackle: Tackling when off the ground.
  • Broken tackle: When the player being tackled is able to break free from it.
  • Slam tackle: When the player getting tackled’s head is deliberately slammed into the ground and is not always tolerated.
  • Wing tackle: When an arm is pinned in a tackle.
There are a few rules when it comes to tackling – a high tackle is not allowed, which is when the tackle takes place above the shoulder, and results in a free kick for the team who’s player was illegally tackled. Spear tackles are also not tolerated, which is when a player throws themself into an opponent using their shoulder to bring them down, and is a reportable offence which can result in suspension.

The player who has the ball in the tackle has methods at hand in which to dodge an imminent tackle such as:

Your theory is starting to make sense. Maybe I've been following AFL for too long...

Welcome to the fight back brother! You will shortly be receiving your starter pack including instructions on how to purchase your personal recoiless rifle on the dark web and a signed 8x10 glossy of Adam Oxley to inspire you to acts of courage and sacrifice.

This was always coming because of trial by media, all the BS and hype around this all weekend is part of the problem, what Grundy did and the Danger were two very different tackles, no comparison, I'm bewildered how this MRP operate, how many brains trust are in that, they seem like total fools. I have no doubt the surface played a huge roll in this, what is Grundy to do, tackle him as he has the ball, gets a free for incorrect disposal, then the bloke hits head on the concrete and Grundy gets two weeks for it, I've been watching football along time, but week after week watching this crap game now I see things that just are off the charts rubbish, the game is pretty much stuffed now, thanks for that AFL.

I found the following outside AFL house smeared in excrement on an old football record. I think it might be significant...

Apologies for the intrusion but I hope you guys challenge it.

I hope I don't touch a nerve but I don't think you guys have too much to lose with three weeks to go in the season. May as well stick it right up 'em.

Three weeks ago my two boys played at half time on Etihad during the WC game.

I was surprised how much sand and how hard the surface was.

I am still staggered how Grundy goes from a free kick for to a three week suspension.

I will say it again this game is ****ed!

Grundy gets two weeks off for a tackle that was "rough" and "careless".

Rough!!!

Up next, 6 weeks off for scowling in a menacing fashion.

A season for repeatedly failing to compliment the opponent's boots.

I'm expecting imminent beheading for use of an improper subjunctive next. You can't be too careful.

You can have 17 actions if you want. The amount of actions in the tackle is only one part of what constitutes a sling tackle.

Just another example of the ludicrous, knee jerk mentality that has enveloped the AFL and media over the last few years. It was unfortunate that this incident has come hot on the heels of the media's darling Dangerfield copping a ban and therefore no other outcome was possible - it had to be made to be worse than Dangerfield's so as not to reignite that controversy. Absolute bollocks but that's the climate we now have to put up with.

Not that it happened this time, but some players are now trying to manipulate the rule by throwing themselves into the ground head first to get a free kick.
Once again the AFL have created a problem by over doing rule changes.
Rule should have just stated and outlawed sling and spear tackles, and intent with regard to this! the result or injury should be irrelevant.

Last week Blair's goal made our top 5 plays, this week sees not one, but two tackles (not Grundy's) featuring at 4 and 5. Good to see someone at the club has a sense of humour.

Do we reckon we'll have to wait til tomorrow morning to find out if we're appealing? Surely there's not much to discuss here, no ramifications other than to miss a game in a dead season. Is it common place to find out the next day?

We could rename BigFooty to Tenochtitlan. Build a pyramid in honour of the sacrosanct nature of The Head. Roll the recently removed bonces of the non-believers down the steps so that, in their sacrifice, they may come to know The Head and become one with The Head.
