Clearly Wines and the power were told he won , why would they be in Perth otherwise

Even if they lie to us about the votes being sealed until the night (which I could definitely believe) I doubt they'd out-and-out tell the winner beforehand.

They'd just insist he be there due to being 'one of the favourites'.

Yes I reckon that would be one regret Todd Viney would have, from memory he was head of recruiting at the time and because Ollie was best mates with his son Jack he didn’t take him when he clearly should have.
More to do with us being shocked that Toumpas didn’t go top 2 and not realising his hips were cooked.

Not sure if you saw him but G.Williams was a *fair* midfielder.
I'd debate him being fair lol.

I think it's just been decided that the midfield battle decides the game, so forwards and backs get FA votes unless they kick 6 or 7, and then the bias directs those votes to the 'best mid' over and over again.

Diesel would rack up 30+ votes a season these days.

Wines a worthy winner, but if you don’t see why Bont polls so well you know nothing about the game :)

Bontempelli was very good this year, but the level of melts from your supporters is frankly pathetic and the sort of rubbish that we saw where your coach and supporters were getting up on the cross last week for something teams like West Coast do all year every year. Wines had an absolutely astonishing season. Just didn't play a bad game. People will point to a vote here or there that he didn't deserve but he was the absolute standout player in a team that was equal for highest number of wins. Anyone that tries to talk that down frankly is a stupid arseh*le who is a) salty and/or b) doesn't actually watch football. People want to talk about him being a stat padder, but his disposal efficiency and clangers are the same as Bontempelli. Why is it a problem when Wines burns the ball but Bont can get 3 vote games for an all time record in clangers and 55% disposal efficiency while one of his opponents gets more disposals at 75% (and neither kicked any goals). Wines is a better kick than he has been and is much quicker. If people don't notice that, then they don't watch Port play. The only game I thought he had a non effective high possession game was against Melbourne and he got zero votes for 33/1.

Bontempelli might have a higher ceiling but Wines didn't play a bad game all year in a team that won 17 out of 22 games. Bont did. The only person who I genuinely thought could/ should have beaten Wines is Oliver. Even then, the stats are very similar. Had a clearly better season than Bont who turned in the odd iffy game.

This is the biggest melt in this thread.

Given their year, every AFL player lined up against the fence… 1st pick, you ain’t selecting Wines… just sayin’…

You could say that at least half the time with the Brownlow I reckon.

It'd actually be a bit boring if the consensus media favourite won every year.

I'm not sure how much stock you can put into the players' mvp award. Plenty of players admit they aren't die hard followers of the game and only really watch footage for their jobs. You have occasional footy nuffies going around but most of these blokes are getting plastered or out socialising on a Friday/Saturday night and won't be watching the footy like we think.
