Bruce McAvaney... I think its time

My big issue with McAvaney is his pointless and irrelevant stats. At the Swans-North game at the SCG, where Paul Kelly was in the stand and Carey next to him, he reminded us that those two players had played their 150th games on the same fixture and it was also Harvey's first game at the SCG.

FFS Bruce, save it for quiz night.

He'll do it a dozen times a quarter. A player comes into view and McAvaney launches into a statistical history of the guy or ruminates on his future. Just call the game. Go to the stats when there's something meaningful to reveal.

The great thing about Cometti is his judgement. He tries to share his insights as a guy with a footy brain and ability to call what's going on in an interesting way. McAvaney is a bunch of pointless exclamation marks and irrelevant stats.

It was absolutely ridiculous how shit he was tonight, and overall it's alarming to see what he's turned himself into as a commentator, no doubt egged on by the knobs running 7's footy commentary. He literally got upset and barracked like a fan when Cyril didn't get paid a mark for attempting that hanger. Would not stop crapping on about it all night, and he does the same thing week in, week out.

Him and the tossbag that is Hamish have a deep love for Hawthorn too and feel the need to remind us week in, week out what a great club they are, instead of just focusing on calling the game.

At least he knows his stuff. Most of the new commentators make loads of basic factual mistakes

If Bruce was gone you muppets would have nothing to whine about in game day threads... oh wait #freekickhawthorn

Yeah Bruce should have gone years ago along with that Cometti w***er, but look at who will replace them - BT, Romp & Bazil ffs - you made your bed Ch7, have fun lying in it but I wont be listening.

He has been an icon of sport for a very long time and one of the greatest Olympic commentators to live, his knowledge of sport and stats has been nothing short of brilliant and some interviews over the journey have been first class
Athletics sure maybe, but his commentary when doing the swimming has always been absolute garbage.

How about when he started crapping on about Hartlett saying nasty things to Rioli and how emotional Rioli was, when he jumped into Hartlett's back trying to take a mark after the siren? Meanwhile when Jonas did it, he's a total flog and Darcy / BT / Richo sound like they want to jump the fence and join in the melee.

It was time about 10 years ago.

I was going to say 5 years ago, but 10 also works.
Has almost become a parody of himself, and when you start quoting Dwayne Russell you know your time is up.

I think its time he seriously considers his future on commentating AFL, maybe Rio would be a good place for him to do that.

The last few seasons his AFL commentary has been fairly ordinary to say the least.

His love for individual players has gone to a whole new level with calls like delicious and when one of his pet players go anywhere near it he just about loses control. In my view he completely embarrasses himself and its cringeworthy.

His love for specific teams is so obvious that he barracks and dribbles and goos at every chance he gets. It makes his commentary so far biased its sickening.

He has really lost his skill of being impartial and the image of the game suffers for it.

He is not the only one but he is one of the worst offenders.

I think its time to give it away while you still have some reputation in tact.

Thoughts????

He just calls it how the modern folk like it. It is not just a footy game now, it's a drama with woman's Day punchlines.
The modern supporter loves all that crap so he delivers it in spades just as they all do.
If they called the game as they used to call it they would spend the whole game smashing the umpires for their incompetence.
For me Bruce is still the best by panels which just shows how shallow the pool is and why recruiting ex players who are not qualified to do the job is the wrong way to go.
