91) The Promise
Album: The Promise (2010)
*New entry*

"Every day it just gets harder to live, the dream you're believing in"

Which ever way you look at The Promise, it’s pretty special, and you can understand why so many fans request it at shows.

Coming from the unreleased album which would have come out circa 1976, it is lyrically brilliant. The music sort of sits back and the lyrics do most of the work throughout. The solo version Bruce does at the piano is heartbreaking and the whole song is just full of poignancy. It is one of the most depressing songs he has written, yet, it is so beautiful that no matter how sad it is, you must appreciate the beauty behind the words, even though the song is full of angst.

I feel a little bad having it so low, but I just don’t listen to it that often and prefer other songs more, magnificent song though.

Dare I say, had I heard it live (was actually setlisted at Melbourne2 but was unplayed), it probably would have brought tears to my eyes.

Heartbreaking. This is just flawless. Wow.

90) Janey Don’t You Lose Heart
Album: Tracks (1998)
*New entry*

“Well you say you got no new dreams to touch”

So, every entry bar one is new to the countdown, it goes to show how much I was missing out on, and how much I was yet to discover last time round.

Found this track last year when trawling YouTube for Bruce vids and this was played at a show in April last year in New York.

Lovely rendition of him doing it just the acoustic guitar is the version I have been most exposed to. In stark contrast though, the full band version is much more joyous. Bruce seems to have this knack of writing sad lyrics but matching them with happier feeling music. Of course, this song is another instance of this.

The solo version however, to me, it gives a off different vibe, naturally. I think this is about a guy telling a girl not to give up, I might be wrong, but it’s what it seems.

DrVanNostrand not the best of quality but....

Awesome quality. Love vids where you get the sound similar to what you hear in the arena.

Reminds me of my terrible effort from Melbourne...thank you City of Melbourne official visitor map :thumbsu:

I was at the shops today and grooving along to Bruce on my mp3 player while waiting for the person i was with to be done with grabbing what they needed. A guy walked past me wearing a Wrecking Ball Australia tour t-shirt. Gave each other a nod of approval as he walked past :thumbsu:

How did he know you were a Bruce fan, wearing a shirt too? I've noticed the shirts I got at the gigs are of surprisingly good quality as far as concert tees go. Tight fit and fairly durable.

Need one of these:

Cos it's from 2012 lol.

Smashing Spirit at the moment, CAN YA FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL THE SPIRIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTT

The '2012' is only small, no one will see it. It's not as it is screams "AMERICAN TOUR 2012". Gun shirt.

IF YOU CAN FEEL THE SPIRIT TONIGHT, I WANT YOU TO HIT ME WITH A MIGHTY 'YEAH, YEAH' :thumbsu:

Great cover of Spirit, on the fence about Radio Nowhere. I don't think it's supposed to be a depressing song! Let's bask in the goodness that is the greatest Spirit ever, coincidently also on piano...

The device i use as an mp3 player has a built in speaker i don't use headphones very often as a result :D. I happened to be playing Springsteen music while waiting outside the shop.

Better Days - it's okay, was great live, nice bit of filler to pad out the 100 I guess
WOAD - vomit. There's some fantastic songs on this album, but this isn't one of then. And yes, Good Eye is an abomination.
The Promise - 91????!!!!! Top 20 material right here. You prefer the 18 Tracks version, or 2010 version (electric version)?
Janey, Don't You Lose Heart - too low. The sax break is magical. One of my most frequently played Bruce songs.
