Will you care if he stays? It's an opportunity for Carlton too, to score a first for a guy who likely won't be a part of your premiership run in a few years.

He could play for 6 years.

When do we plan our flag tilt for? If longer, do we get rid of Docherty as he will be nudging 30 then?

Who gives Cripps a chop out at stoppages next year? Gibbs is our second best clearance player. You really want some guarantees if you are going to smash Cripps like that. We buried Judd the same way.

Whilst there where whispers over the past 8 weeks of Bryce wanting to return to Adelaide for family reasons it was not considered serious. We were taken by surprise at the Crows announcement on Monday as we believed the talk would pass and Bryce indicated all was ok in his exit meeting.

The club and Bryce have spoken over the past couple of days and it's been made clear that if any trade were to occur it would need to significantly benefit the club - Bryce whilst preferring to return to Adelaide will accept our position and fulfill his contract if this is the case.

We do expect Adelaide to up the offer early next week.

This is all about trying to facilitate family pressures, but there's more than one way to address that. I doubt his partner would begrudge another 2-6 years in Melbourne when she sat down and thought about it, especially if there's career success for Bryce.

If there isn't, well then I'm sure club and player will be happy to revisit this in a year or two. Adelaide need to pony up.

McKay is not an unknown, simply yet to debut. They've had him in the club for 12 months and have seen how he adapts to what's asked of him. We absolutely have the forwards for 2 years from now, with Ben Silvagni coming in then too.

Here's what goreds is talking about:

FB: Byrne Marchbank Plowman
HB: Docherty Weitering Tuohy?
C: Cuningham Gibbs Simpson
HF: Buckley Stewart Sumner
FF: Silvagni McKay C.Curnow

R: Kreuzer Cripps Murphy

Int: E.Curnow, Pickett, <???>, <???>

Potential options on our list: Korcheck, Boekhorst, Wright, Glass-McCasker

Maybes: DVR, Kerridge, Sheehan, Gowers, Phillips, Jaksch, Armfield, Casboult, Rowe

Potential options that we're entertaining: A. Kennedy, Lang, Ahern, JO'M (can't rule this one out just yet), Hrovat, S. Lloyd, M. McGovern, C. Cameron, B. Crouch (can't rule this out yet, but we'll have to give something up)

Maybes: Lyons, Finlayson, Corr

If we get 3 or 4 of those potential options without haemorrhaging our draft position and only losing 1 or 2 players, we're ahead, and then we've got better results, 2 drafts and 2 free agency periods to further mould the list without diluting it.

Say it with me now: Gibbs for overs, Gibbs for overs, Gibbs for overs.

[douses an effigy of the Crows' mascot in petrol, lights a match and dances around the flames]

GIBBS FOR OVERS GIBBS FOR OVERS GIBBS FOR OVERS

[club starts to burn down]

GIBBS FOR OVERS GIBBS FOR OVERS GIBBS FOR OVERS

[sirens can be heard in the distance]

GIBBS FO... OHGOD WHATHAVEIDONE

Hodor!

I wonder at what point we say enough is enough to the Crows. They've had 4 days to work with us to find a suitable trade for Gibbs but they haven't compromised whatsoever, which has slowed all other trades.

We've got 4 or 5 young players nervously waiting for this to get sorted out so they can get traded in, and to this point there's been no progress.

We should give them a deadline, tell them the price (13, 2017 1st for Gibbs and 24) and leave it at that. If they can't agree, we reject their offer and tell Gibbs we did our best but we aren't going to trade him.

Our focus, first and foremost should be getting Marchbank, Pickett, Stewart and Hrovat onto the list and this episode is delaying those trades.

I'm not being naive. After the coffee we find out he wants to leave. Along with the fact that Adelaide are closer to a flag than Port, it's just too much of a coincidence.

Family reasons is the best way for him to not make himself look bad by walking out on his contract after telling his team mates not to go anywhere.

From one cup of coffee you've deduced

1. He has only spoken to the Crows
2. Port haven't contacted him
3. He hasn't contacted Port
4. He using family reasons to mask the real reason his is leaving

You're a conspiracy theorist.

I'd personally be very happy. Draft picks are nice, they are new and they are novelty but Gibbo is a known commodity, an A-grader and a match-winner.

I don't think he'll be part of our next flag tilt but if we aren't going to get value for him I'd rather he stay, set the example, and provide leadership and experience to our young group. You can't quantify those values.

What leadership does a disgruntled employee who wanted out give? For whatever reason Bryce Gibbs requested a trade to Adelaide. Family reasons or chasing a premiership. If it's family reasons, how happy is his partner going to be if he stays? Is he going to be coming home from every game and having to deal with an angry girlfriend lacking family support who wants to be in Adelaide? Isn't the worst case scenario she leaves for Adelaide taking his son with her?

I highly doubt this was a decision that Bryce Gibbs took lightly. Can we honestly say that keeping him is not going to affect his performance?

I mean yeah sure we can bend over backwards to accommodate him. Andy MacKay use the commute from Brisbane when he played with us. It's just an extra layer of bullsh*t and a high probability of a disgruntled player that we don't need. Rather than have it possibly blow up in our face later, we should trade now when his value is at its highest.

if he does stay, won't it be a little awkward around the club for a while

It'll be fine. A few of the boys will give him a bit of a ribbing and that will be that.

Players are human beings and have every right to explore their options and do what's best in the interest of their families.

He isn't disgruntled; it's merely his preference to be in Adelaide. You don't understand the mechanics of his family situation so you're making a lot of assumptions about the state of his relationship and his partner's ability to cope. There's a good chance she'll understand the circumstances - him being a professional athlete, having a contract to fulfil and not necessarily being able to go where he wants.

The club has done their best to facilitate a trade but they won't be bullied into giving him up. There are a lot of factors at play.

Love your inputs :thumbsu:

But a much younger Mitchell = 14 ???

It seems every man and his dog is going to bring up the Mitchell trade to assess a players worth. Swans got in early to take the best trade asset Hawthorn have before the O'Meara trade.

Swans will also get later picks from Hawks. Deal not done yet so is not a benchmark

Why is he disgruntled? Prove it?

Leadership is another issue but please tell us what has brought about Gibbs being disgruntled at the CFC? Are you making things up now?

Port don't have the cap space and are looking to inject youth in the team. Their midfield is a strength and they don't need to add another outside runner.
Again I say, Port do have space. They can roll over Ryder and Monfries 2016 salary into 2017. They've lost Carlisle and Schulz so thats over $1.5 million to play with.

No I don't understand the dynamics of Bryce Gibbs family situation. Bryce Gibbs does. Hes weighed it up in his own mind and decided to move to Adelaide would be the best solution. I doubt this was an easy decision for him to make, nor would it be one that he made lightly. Yeah, maybe we can implement something to make it easier for him. But it clearly carries the risk of everything going pear-shaped and leaving us with a disgruntled employee with a poor family situation at home, and perhaps a chip on his shoulder with regards to the club.

It's one thing for Bryce to do the right thing by the club if we can't arrange a trade. Whether he's entirely happy doing so is another question entirely.

Why retain a 27-year-old player that wants to be elsewhere? During a rebuild of the list? When that player has value and we hold all the cards?

I can see the argument for retaining him, but it's weak. The best thing for Bryce Gibbs, and the club, is to let him go.

Points 2 & 3 are moot after point 1 - Just sayin'

Nope. I've been keeping informed with other info that has come out as well.

I think family reasons are part of it, but the main thing is a shot at a flag. I don't blame him for wanting some success. Just don't like the way he's gone about it:

1 - Tell team mates to stay and then leave only 2 years later
2 - Ask for a trade not even half way through a contract
3 - Not tell the club until trade period begins

If he had contacted Port, it would've definitely come out by now. Port would love to make Adelaide's position in the trade harder make no mistake about that.

Of course, he just wanted to grow his list to try and make me look like an idiot.

Only a fool would think he's had any interest in going to Port Adelaide after what's transpired.

And it would be highly unlikely that family reasons are the only driving factor. Like I said before, he knew what he signed up for when he signed that 5 year contract and so did his partner.

You've made a lot of arbitrary assumptions based on the one cup of coffee.

Tin-foil stuff.
