I'm not sure at this point we have a choice other than persisting with him.

Playing without a ruck doesn't work - we showed that last year when we finished 11th. Hayes has been dicked around too much now, that chapter is finished. We absolutely can't play Lycett as it takes us nowhere. Dixon is in too good a form up forward to be #1 ruck. And clearly the club thinks Dante is still too raw.

So we go forward with Teakle and just pray he comes good.

We’re left with little choice but to look for a ruckman in the mid season draft again. Ridiculous situation. Having Lobbe teach/coach these guys is part of the problem. He ended his career with no ruck craft and no around the ground impact. It’s as though his three older pupils are clones of him.

I have rewatched the match. Teakle's game was much better than what I thought, and a hell of a lot better than many of the knockers here are saying!

Yes Marshall beat him, but he wasnt useless as some are saying. He competed well in the ruck, and was involved in quite a few general plays. Nice one below that leads to a goal. He follows the action after the ruck contest, and stays involved, keeping in front of Marshall, who is unable to impact on the play.

After rewatching the game, I have changed my mind & feel he is worth persisting with.

Boak made that handball look good though.

I would have to agree, there's something there to work with.

Sure, he potatoed a few handballs, and squibbed on a couple of occasions here & there.
But thought he was quite mobile around the ground when getting to the ruck contest.

First and foremost, Teakle needs to work on his marking craft.
Having zero marks for ruckman for an entire game doesn't cut it.

Want his ruck minutes lowered, playing him up forward or something. Dixon might be on 1 leg, but we've still got Finlayson.
Having watched Essendon against Melbourne we might need to play Teakle from defence as 2nd ruck.

They rotated their rucks forward to devastating effect in that game and we don't have anyone to play on them if they do that.

No only did Marshall have a great game, Teakle's shit disposal and poor decision making directly lead to 3 or 4 shots on goal for the saints

Good summary. Dixon & Findlayson can't ruck the whole game every week. They will get injured (Dix already has) & it will shorten their careers. They are too important elsewhere. So it's Teakle which is so far from ideal.

In terms of tackles to force stoppages and turnovers, the blokes a clear upgrade on Hayes.

Doesn't seem to give or get as many free kicks either which is preferred from a stoppage with our midfield, opens the ground up more.

Is not smashed around the ground in ruck contests.

Needs to improve general field play presence and disposal efficiency, but so far pretty good for 4 games in.

I hope List Management has a plan for our ruck stocks.
Considering we are using a green WAFL ruckman, it doesn't look good but you never know.
Considering they got rid of Ladhams, it doesn't look good.

Lycett - old and injured
Hayes - incredible ruck craft, can't run a game out?, not strong around the ground?, head of the SA RSPCA - we just know the coaches don't rate him
Teakle - no ruck craft, gets around the ground, can play down back?, doesn't look like he knows football, can't seem to mark, is unbelievably 23 years old
Visentini - skills, young, hard at it - Hinkley wants to win and will probably only use him if he has to

I really don't want Dixon in the ruck unless absolute necessary. He is too injured and too important player in our team.
I think Finlayson dropping into the ruck is OK. He's pretty good and gives a different look. He seems to do everything. He also plays like a 5th midfielder.

Of course we want a great ruck, a good ruck would do, however, if we get a great ruck, it would mean he would complement our young up and coming possibly dominant midfield.

The dominant West Coast midfield had Judd, Cousins and Kerr rucking with who I consider the best ruck I've seen in Dean Cox. Cox actually made them all better and is the prototype of the ruck that most coaches are looking for today. I think he dominated centre rucks and picked up 20 to 30 possies a game.

On the other hand the Brisbane midfield had Voss, Akermanis and Black who had a good ruck in Clark Keating.

While coaches seem to want a guy who can take a mark around the ground and get to all the stoppages, I would like to double down on our midfield and get a guy who can also tap down to Horne-Francis, Rozee and Butters. Can you imagine Horne-Francis with a dominant tapping ruck? I mean, he got 11 clearances with Brynn Teakle rucking for crying out loud.

Anyway, I have my fingers crossed that List Management is talking to ruckmen. A really good 24 year old ruckmen would be what the doctor ordered. Sean Darcy fits the bill. If a team has a 2nd or 3rd ruckmen not getting games but who is dominating in the lower leagues, that they are too good to not play AFL, who has a couple of seasons under his belt, the Scouting Department needs to find this guy.

There is nothing better than a ruck and his midfield making beautiful music with centre clearances. You can get 2 or 3 goals a games from really good centre clearances. I remember seeing Nic Nat and the West Coasters do some amazing things and hit the throat of a leading forward.

This bolded is the entire problem with the club over the past 11 years. We never have a forward-thinking plan of where our next flag is coming from and as a result constantly have holes in our list that we try to patch over or use as an excuse for failure.

We all mocked the Camries for putting together that premiership team list with "pick 17" playing full forward or whatever, but at least they're thinking about it.

Brin did OK: Marshall hardly gave the Saints any advantage, time and time again the Hornet shafted his taps.
Having said that, we need to include another ruckman to match the Bombers pair, my vote is add Dantes (inferno).

I think they have a decent plan and could have been hamstrung by Hinkley but they have the power to redeem the glaring list holes in the next couple of off seasons. The issue is we may need to pay overs but that is OK.

We desperately need a readymade ruck and a KPD. You never know they may be on our list.
It would be nice to have a goal kicking small or med, a lockdown small defender and another gun midfielder. It is more likely we have those on our list.

When the off season comes round, I will go off on a few anomalies and attitudes I see with the list.

Is that why the game immediately changed as soon as Finlayson was sent into the ruck?

Tinkle might be the worst footballer on an AFL list

Finlayson was getting well beaten by Phillips but our mids were awake.

Not saying Teakle has been good, because be hasn't, but there was more to being beaten in the clearances than what was happening in the ruck.

He has nothing that says he should be on an AFL list. Can't impact a ruck contest, can't take a mark, can't tackle smaller players.
Just nowhere near it and can't keep getting picked

I’m completely on board with the logic that key position players need time, but Teakle looks all at sea. He doesn’t seem to know where to be, and that’s before we talk about the actual ruck work, where he’s being thumped. We should be investing this time in Hayes or Visentini.
The minimum should be aggression at the man and ball.
