Teakle vs Goldstein will be interesting if that happens.

Will be great further education for him. I am confident we beat the roos even if we get beaten in the ruck, so happy for this to happen.

The following week against the Demons though is where he will need to come out. There is no way we can match Gawn and Grundy, so do we concede the ruck and play Fin the whole game, or do we concede the ground and play Hayes?

Yep, maybe Teakle will go better against Goldstein. Teakle is NFG against big hairy types, but may go better against slender individuals like Goldstein.
But Teakle is not a very sticky bandaid, so it only delays the inevitable attempt to replace him.
Hayes and Visentini swapping from the bench is what I want, but it just wont happen.

His form is really not the best to say the least. He was eviscerated on the weekend. The centre clearances was a procession in the first quarter or so. Our midfield deserves better.

If the intel is correct and the coaching staff wants a 5th midfielder then why did they trade out Ladhams.
Well, you know why, don't you. He's not carbon neutral. I think we got a 3rd or 4th rounder for him.

What is it about treakle that people think is worth persisting with, other than "he's tall"?

I have seen no AFL qualities. He's slow. His marking is terrible. His ruck work is diabolical. He can't run out a game. He gets outbodied easily. Poor decision maker.
You're wildly catastrophising there but it's unarguable he's not up the lead ruck role. However no-one else is either. If the club pick him at present it's because they think he's the best option for development, not because they think he can replace an in-form Lycett.

Not sure they're going to continue persisting with him. I'm glad the coaches recognised the issues at half time and played Finlayson in ruck more.

I couldn't understand why he stuck with the run-and-jump approach at centre bounces. Finlayson didn't - he routinely took the angle, or forced his opponent to take the body.

It's hard to imagine that Hinkley and Carr and Lobbe were happy with how Teakle was faring at centre bounce. For him not try a different approach (or not be instructed to try something different) for the whole game was baffling.

He could have tried falling over and huddling in the fetal position and it would have been as effective as what he was doing

There is no "in-form" lycett. That should have been obvious after he single handedly lost the 2020 prelim in the last quarter.

It was blatantly obvious to everyone except our coaching staff that he was cooked last year. They should have A) backed in Hayes and given him a chance. B) traded for some average list clogger ruckman last off season or C) opted not to play a ruck at all.

The Pies have proved Rucks are over rated.
Yes it would be nice if we had someone like Grundy but we haven't.
Regardless that Lycett is injured, mid-field Coach is on record as prefering Teakle because of his leap.

Maybe we can grab former Sydney ruckman Sam Naismith in the mid-season draft as an interim ruck solution.

Sam Hayes played 7 games last year, averaged 29 hit outs per game, 9.3 to advantage at 31.7% and 7.7 disposals.

Brynn Teakle has played 3 games this year, averaged 22 hitouts per game, 8.3 to advantage at 37.9% and 9.7 disposals.

Somehow this makes Brynn Teakle the worst ruckman in the history of football and Sam Hayes the saviour of Port's ruck situation.

I get that Teakle is not a great ruck option - we've been through how Port has stuffed the ruck situation and Brynn has had almost zero preparation before being thrown into the ruck this year. But the level of hysteria about his performances is extraordinary in some cases.

I come from the old school where we should be trying to gain an edge no matter how and where.

Ruck is one of the 18 playing on the ground and the ruck has to at least break even in the centre bounce.
Watch the 1st quarter against the Bombers again and see how badly Teakle played.
As the game progressed, the coaching staff refused to match Teakle up against Draper.

This is a List Management, Coaching Issue and they have done particularly badly on ruck... and KPD.

It is a pity that Ladhams is not carbon neutral because he would still be in the team.

The issue is we think we can win the Premiership this year when we should be doubling down on our young group for our next tilt.

I have literally never seen a Brynn Teakle hit out to advantage, let alone 8 per game. Are they counting when he hits it to the opposition's advantage? Definitely saw a few of them.

Id love to see the same for Pete Ladhams first 7 games as an actual ruck.

JHF helps a lot in this regard.

If Hayes has Hornet last year his would be even higher.

And yet when we get beaten in clearances, like we were by Essendon in the first quarter it's all on Teakle.

It's ridiculous. Our on-ball runners were as much to blame for the poor start as the ruckman.

Mate I'm with you on Teakle.

Hes not going as bad as people are saying and it's way too early to put a line through him. He is our best option we have right now and he makes a difference around the ground even if it is just by making the oppo ruck man him up.

Yep. People were seeing Teakle in the ruck, seeing us lose the clearance but not making sense of what was happening.

A few times Teakle and Draper touched the ball at the same time, but at their feet an Essendon mid would swoop in and take it. We were also running back hard into defensive 50 immediately, while they were setting up two or three loose players at the back of the square, ready for the quick handball receive where they could then launch inside 50.

I like to think Josh Carr is white anting the position to make room for Sean Darcy

Correct. On paper you lose the centre clearances 7-0 in a quarter and it looks horrendous. You watch the game and see how they happened, and the mids were equally at fault for not getting it out of there as Teakle was. Teakle won 5 of those 7 hitouts. 1 went down the throat of Parish which was ugly. 1 went to Stringer who was on the move whilst our mids had concrete boots on. The 3 others he found midfielders who then coughed up the ball.

He's worth the time. I reckon there's something there. It's not costing us games. He's worth giving time to

We have no one else? And playing Dixon and Finlayson for the whole game in ruck stuffs us elsewhere / increases the likelihood of injury.
