lol also can we just address the 'Hayes isn't fit enough" stuff?

today I saw them throw the ball up to no port ruckman, and the commentary pointed out teakle was making his way to the contest but didn't get there in time.

several more times we went with either no ruck, or spp went into ruck, and Im pretty sure teakle was on the ground for at least some of them.

for all the crap Hayes cops, did we ever see him not get around the ground to compete for the ruck?

how are we meant to believe Hayes isn't getting games cause he's unfit and teakle is getting games cause he is?
You'd have to be an imbecile to think Hayes couldn't lope around with Goldstein all day, it's a case of papers stamped unfortunately.

You and Janus should start a club for apologists cherry picking s**t irrelevant stats to pretend the club is infallible.

Why am I an apologist? Because I'm prepared to put up with one sub-10 game ruckman in the team over a different sub-10 game ruckman? Wow!

All this "Teakle experiment" has shown to me is just how redundant ruckmen are in the game at the moment. 56 hitouts to 11 or whatever it was and Port still won the clearances today.

Doesn't matter who we play in the ruck next week, playing against the best dual ruck combo in the games history will be ugly on paper.

Bryn doesn't deserve what he's copping from fans sure. it's the clubs (Hinkley really) fault.

teakle is years away from being years away from ready.

we arguably plucked him out of nowhere, stuck him on our list to please a coach who must have been begging for an alternative to Hayes, and have brought him into the afl side when he was barely serviceable at SANFL level and he barely can execute basic skills 16yrs are expected to display.

he's the rawest ruck prospect in the league.

maybe, maybe there's something there and miraculously despite teaching athletes to football works out about 1/100 times, teakle is that 100th time it is going to work out.

even then, he could be playing SANFL, learning the basics while we play another ready ruck who isn't conceding best on ground performances to the opposing ruck every week.
Then why dont you shut the **** up, instead of cheerleading the vitriol against him!

Goldstein has been their best player for 10 years. They don't have anyone else.

In 8 games this year Goldstein's best hit out numbers were 33. His highest disposal numbers were 18. He had 56 hitouts, 24 disposals, 11 clearances, and 380 metres gained. He'll end up getting 2nd or 3rd most coaches votes.

Meanwhile, Teakle is so good around the ground that we had to field a forward 50 ballup with noone because he was too slow getting to the contest.

Ollie Lord went past him as a ruck in this game.

If we have put a line through Hayes and are without Marshall/ Dixon next week, we have to pick Visentini. Rotate Lord, Visentini, and Finlayson through the ruck/forward line. If we don't make their defence accountable we could have 100 i50s and it wouldn't matter.

A large part of his problem is that he is coached terribly.

His jump and positioning is consistently terrible. When he does get to the tap he usually taps it to the Oppo or to no one. When he gets the ball around the ground he always looks unsure and doesn't take the first option.

Someone needs to tell him how to football. Most of those things are coachable.

I also think our midfielders really do not help him at all. The only one who really moves in the stoppage is JHF. Everyone else is flat footed and usually behind their man.

Thing is if we had a “strong” or “good” ruck with the midfielders we have we’d be putting it down finny/ Dixon/ SPP throat straight out of the Center and being able to set up more aggressively - we would concede less goals and kick more goals because we’d be shooting for goals from better positions

I have zero doubt about that.

I think a good ruck is as important now as it ever has been personally

Yea people can stat twist and wax lyrical about rucks being less important, but Gawn & Grundy will be taking out the trash come September.

Given how bad teakle is don't you think the club would love to play Hayes if he was up to it? I don't know what's going on with Hayes behind the scenes but it's obvious something has gone on or they'd be playing him.

They don't want egg on face. That's it.

They might play him this week because he'll get creamed against Melbourne and they can sit back and say "see I told you so!"

Meanwhile teakle's opponent has been BOG every week.

He is losing less, i reckon he had a bit of confidence for the first time in a while late
But the when i lose i get slaughtered trait is still there and not improving at the same rate.

Good to see him get involed in a few scoring chains
JHF likes him i reckon

Hayes is checked out. You can think that and think that we butchered Hayes over hia career

Well it's hard not to be checked out from his point of view, how's he supposed to push his case when he's plonked in a forward pocket most of time in the SANFL.. I'd be over the fence having a beer and a durry myself.

Yeah agreed, but also he is meant to be a professional

His post ruck effort is lacking, and probably Lycetts best quality. Getting in and under, tackling etc Teaks prefers to stand on his heels and gets caught out.

I'm still happy for us to keep playing him, though this week he will need help.

Remember how bad English was when he first started? I can see Teaks playing like English

Oh no.

How dare I discuss football on this (checks notes) football discussion forum.

I’ve never been personal, I’ve never crossed any line.

I’ve discussed a player and the coach picking him.

This is so stock standard that besides billions of people doing it around the world they even have an entire media devoted to it.

I’ve simply pointed out
A) he’s raw, and can’t execute basic skills
B) his opponent is murdering him weekly

Now, if this is at a level you find offensive, report me to the moderators, who will laugh at you. Because it’s entirely stock standard discussion and not remotely crossing any lines.

Lol.

What on earth are you referring to? What could Hayes possibly have done? Shat in hinkleys morning coffee?

All we have to go on is what we’ve seen, and what we’ve seen is Hayes is light years ahead of where teakle is, despite being similar ages.

Hayes outperformed him in the sanfl and the afl.

As I’ve consistently pointed out, Hayes is shithouse at a few areas of the game that we know Hinkley likes. Ground ball gets etc.

all evidence we have is that Hinkley has written Hayes off because he says hitouts dont mean shit, and he wants a tall midfielder type ruck.

I think what’s become very clear over the years is that Hinkleys strength is player relationships, and that he’s a tactical dunce.

English is a horrible example.

He was a terrible ruck, but he had elite footballing ability.

Straight off the bat he had better skills than most mids, was an unbelievable mark around the ground, but got murdered in the ruck while he was a 18/19/20/21 year old string bean.

He was much younger than the 23 yr old teakle is during those years we remember him getting creamed. Despite it seeming like English has been around forever he’s a bit over 2 years older than teakle.

I did worry about his ruck craft but as he’s put on size on that’s come up a fair bit.

Teakle is not remotely a similar prospect.

If they thought Teakle was the 2nd best ruckman at the club, he would have played ruck at some point this year or, you know, at all. Teakle has a total of 50 hitouts in 6 games in the SANFL and zero in 2 this year. Hayes wasn't getting picked in 2021 when he was putting up 30s and 40s every week. He wasn't getting picked when we had no ruck last year. He was in Whyalla talking to kids about domestic violence and positive relationships in the only pre-season matches we had this year. He came out and put up 20HOs+1 goal and 37 hitouts in rd 2. He kept us in it against the All Australian under 18s. I don't think he has lost the ruck battle in the SANFL for years, He's combined with Visentini to slaughter the oppo this year. The last 3 games he's been played as a forward pocket.

Here's the game that got Hayes dropped last year:

Bailey williams is one of the worst rucks in the competition and here's him beating Teakle:

1683976453638.png

That must have just been a bad day. Well here's his other games:

1683976618536.png
1683976654480.png

1683976725478.png

Those are all of his full games. The only other game was his debut where he broke his collar bone.

He's getting mugged week after week. He's averaging 10 disposals 1.8 clearances, 1.7 marks a game this year, while his opponent waltzes around the ground doing as he pleases. It's an absolute joke that he's playing while we deliberately sabotage Hayes' career. This will go into Port Folklore. We'll speculate why Hayes didn't get a game in 20 years times. Was he rooting Ken's daughter, did he offer Ken a LA Cola, we'll never know. It's the most undeserved treatment that I can remember in our AFL history.

Lol I forgot that before teakle got called up to ruck at afl level that he got moved out pf the ruck at sanfl level and we played him back for 2 games.

It’s like they had no plan
He hasn't played ruck all year at SANFL level.

Before he came to us last year he was barely playing ruck in WA, and as mentioned many times, wasn't in their WA rep squad, so wasn't really setting the world on fire.

Comes here, gets stuffed into AFL ruck immediately, embarrasses himself (not his fault for being selected when he shouldn't have), then the coaching staff appear to realise their mistake and put a line through him. He starts developing as a key back, then suddenly goes into 1st ruck at AFL level. It all just doesn't even make sense.

He has actually done some ok things as a forward since being with us, but in ruck he's shown zero potential, and as a key back he looked worse than Lord did last year. If the coaches are serious, and if we're fair to him, he would be given the opportunity to really practice that 2nd ruck, 3rd Fwd role at SANFL level before being played at AFL level, and would only be brought in when his form commanded it, rather than being continually gifted unwarranted games.

Well this is a fun thread….

I think we can all agree that Brynn is having a crack. The guys seem to like him and Carr has stated that he is his preferred option. He has holes in his game and is very raw. He seems to be getting better and getting some confidence. But his opponent is also getting BOG level stats.

Seems he has been thrown to the wolves somewhat by the club. But they are backing him in. Maybe they should have played him as lead ruck in the preseason and SANFL or maybe they were hoping Lycett would be ok and that Teakle could be our tall KPD, like Sav at Geelong or McEvoy at the Hawks. Or maybe they were hoping to build other skills and build his core strength?

The alternative is Lycett, who seems to be performing no better than Teakle. Or maybe we could try Visentini, another raw ruck. Or Hayes, who the club seems to have overlooked - doesn’t matter why now, it’s simply the case. Or we try some combo of Dixon, Lord, Marshall and Finlayson?

So we can continue the cyclical arguments or accept it and back the kid in.

Bin tickle will be one of those guys in years time we laugh about and compare our worst player to, like Ryan Lonie or Cain Ackland or Cameron cloke

I haven't even seen todays game yet, nor do I particularly rate Teakle above being a battler who's only a place holder. I just find the assasination of a young bloke having a crack, thrown in when he really shouldn't have been, disgusting.
Ita definitely been way OTT
