If you read between the lines it seems pretty obvious (to me at least) why Buddy was "out of sorts".

He may be the game's most talented player but at what point do we need to consider what kind of influence he's having over the other 40+ blokes on our list? I've always believed that no single player is more important than the club itself, and this latest incident isn't exactly going to do the club's image any favors.

The lack of club sanction to me also indicates what I've long suspected - that noone at Hawthorn dares to discipline Franklin because they're paranoid he'll walk out if he isn't treated with kid gloves.

Sebastian Vettel-ish.

Big deal, the guy was pissed, has anyone posting ever had a few too many? I'm incredulous at the comments on here! Buddy Is our greatest marketing asset and you guys want to cut him loose for being drunk. Caroline Wilson can take a long walk of the proverbial. UFB! I love still love you Buddy.

Dear Bosk, you do realise we finished on top of the ladder last year!? If it was thirteenth your comments may have some merit. Instead you're trying to big note yourself by putting the Big Fella down. How quickly some of you 'supposed' Hawthorn people are turning on one of our greatest. Shame!

If it was alcohol related I'm sure Caro would have mentioned it.

Quite clearly Buddy was "incoherent" but not drunk. Can you put two and two together or does it need to be spelled out in black & white?

It's unreasonable that supporters and members want each player to face the same discipline for similar offences?

I just wish she had the moral courage to say exactly what she was implying. It's very deliberate her use of the word "incoherent"

Bosk, unlike you I infer nothing sinister as I'm a Hawthorn man to the bone. I would never turn on my own or have the temerity to besmirch a great on our own board.

If this was "a mate said he saw this" thread, then I'd agree. It's been reported in The Age, however.

We are negotiating a massive contract with Buddy. I think the way he behaves in public is worth discussion.

From a casual observance, it's akin to watching a time bomb, just waiting for the explosion...

Maybe there's a little more to not signing a contract than first thought. Right now, Buddy is holding all the aces and doesn't have to kowtow to club demands as much as he would if he was signed, sealed and delivered... well, at least in Buddy's mind. Perhaps he's simply trying to leverage a bit of risque behaviour before the contract suffocates his 'fun'? If that's how he's thinking, it's a bit of a dangerous road he's travelling.

Then again, maybe he's not thinking that at all and I'm full of shit. That sounds much more plausible, even to me. :p

Reading the article it sounds fairly innocent to me. Reads as if he had a long afternoon enjoying the laid on hospitality and made a dick of himself in front of the boss. Not a huge deal.

It's not like the Lake incident. Lake was picked up by the cops. Different level of trouble involved.

I honestly believe the club would not hesitate to sanction Buddy if it were serious.

Could even work in their favour in negotiations if Bud's depicted as going off the rails.

What else makes you incoherent ?

Let's not forget that Caro has had it in for Buddy ever since Richmond passed on him. Her choice of the words 'incoherent' and 'out of sorts' is deliberate. Rather than saying 'pissed' she tries to make us think 'was he drunk or was it something else?'
Was she there? Is her 'source' able to differentiate between what particular stimulant was affecting Buddy?
Pure muck-raking from a 'journo' who usually takes herself so seriously you'd think she'd be above this level of gutter-sniping.

Buddy's often incoherent when interviewed on field straight after a game. Just saying....

So Norfy, you think that because there hasn't been a publicized hanging and torture of Buddy, he isn't going to get reprimanded for his bad choices?

I can't say I agree with that. According to this board every single media person/journo as well as every member of the afl has it in for Hawthorn..
