With 5000 people out on the ground it would've been pretty easy for someone to pinch a couple out of the bag and then give one to Buddy to claim all his free stuff though.

Exactly. There is no way the AFL can actually 100% say that it was the 100th ball. Anyone could have checked the markings on the spare balls when everyone ran on, bought one during the week and then marked it themselves. Unlikely, but possible. They can't be 100% sure in a case such as this.

Seriously though, it was a refreshing change to see a young AFL player being so honest open.
Classic response was when he was asked what he will do with the 100 goal football that was returned to him by a passionate Hawks supporter. Buddy said that he will probably sell it, which was a tongue in cheek response after learning that the guy that returned it was offered $5000 for the ball.
Hawks should let this guy do more press stuff because he is good value and says what he thinks.

The AFL has 10 balls (or whatever number they have) for the game.
Every single ball is marked individually.
One ball is kicked into the crowd and is not recovered.
At the end of the game the AFL does the count and notes that balls 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 + 9 are all accounted for but ball number 10 is missing.
The next week a ball is returned and the AFL check the ball to confirm that it is actually ball number 10, the missing ball.
Wow, a miracle. Ball number 10 is returned and now ever single ball is accounted for.

Some of the comments on here are obviously based on pure jealousy of the lad. Makes me wonder just how many of these ignorant posters have seen footage of the press conference. It was on fox sports all last night and this morning and it's obvious that he's referring to the so called 'fans' that are more interested in what he does in his private time rather than what he does on the field as a professional footballer. Franklin is an exemplary trainer and he knows how to bring it on game day. To me that's what matters. So in the context of this thread he is absolutely justified in his statement.
Oh and for those that haven't seen the press conference, yes he came across very well spoken, and whilst he wasn't 100% confident with the cameras and mics in his face he was more than competent.

If they didn't come along to watch you kick the ball and stare at yourself on the M.C.G big screen, licking your hands etc then you wouldn't be so popular and well-off.
