Buddy's Goal of the Decade?

Remove this Banner Ad

I know technically decades are 1-10 (2011-2020), however it seems decades for sporting dvd's, highlights, etc run 0-9 (2010-2019)...thus, YES! Goal of the Decade.

Seriously amazing effort. I love watching the Hawks simply for this man and Cyril. When they're hot, they're close to impossible to stop.

Was a gem!

Full speed, bouncing without missing a stride, opposition hot on his tail, 1 foot in from the boundary, wrong side of goals for a lefty, 35m out, pressure last quarter ie very important to kick it....

Brilliant goal!! absolute brilliant!

i think that statement is pretty fair to be honest

theres some other contenders

eg gazza jnrs goal last year in the wet

and looking at the goal of the year winners in the last 10 years (not that buddys won it yet) i think his would easily take the cake.

of these akers goal in 02 was probably the best IMO

and considering lloyd won goal of the year for that backheal (worst goal of the year of all time) buddy would be a show for the decade

This.

Asking for it to be ranked simply invites flogs in to, well, be flogs...

Watching it on TV, it got me out of my chair and I clapped in front of the tv. It was pretty bloody outstanding.

How about we rate your degree of bias - 10/10

Haha goal of the decade? Get your hand off it..

I am bias I have already admitted so. However, any attack on the thread should include evidence to the contrary. Please list any other contenders plus vision if possible.

Can someone youtube the vid in this thread? I can't seem to find it...

haven't seen it yet. *blush*

edit, I think this is it:

Cale Hooker looks like he's power walking. Is he the worst runner in the AFL? Poor guy.

What about Clint Jones from a couple of weeks ago?

20 feet out, dead in front, barely got it two feet off the ground, bounced 6 times in all different directions, just scraped in ... pearler

Man, am I the only one who can't get over Cale Hooker's run?

Seriously... it's like one of those dreams where you have to run away from something but your legs don't work and they drag along the ground and it's the worst feeling ever. I can barely watch that goal cos all I can see is Hooker's run and I get so wound up and stressed hahaha.

I did that the next day but it was nothing compared to being seated about 10 rows back at about the 70m mark and watching him stream past you on the run and then watch it go through from directly behind him.

The crowd was simply amazing. Like they could sense a massive moment. Was like a Mexican wave. The further he ran, the more people started getting up out of their seats, forcing those behind to do the same... etc etc....When it went through the crowd was crazy. Behind only the goal he kicked against Adelaide in 2007 final for crowd reaction at games I have attended.

It was incredible.

I miss the old 'play of the day' award.
Both of his goals would have competed with each other.

I think there's definitely a little bit lost in the TV coverage that you got while at the game.
The atmosphere was electric when he took off on the wing. Even Essendon fans were on their feet hoping that Hooker would be able to reach him. And as he ran over the 50m line the expectation of those few seconds had built to such a point that when he did finally put it on the boot from the boundary all I could hear around me was screams of joy and 'No way'.

I'm not sure what they difference is between broadcasts, but the crowd noise in the 774 call is immense as they are calling his run down the wing.

Anthony Hudson(SEN) takes the cake for the best call of that second goal though.

Shane Edwards goal 45 seconds in.

He ends up kicking it with his body behind the goal post and boot/leg in front/around it. And the both umps were in perfect position to know the ball was at no stage behind the line. Very clever goal.
Clever goal, but some equally insipid attempts at tackling.

Brilliant goal, and easily one of the best goals I've seen. Can't actually think of too many more that are better. I've seen running goals, but not under that pressure, and from that angle. And certainly not two in a game, and his third in the second quarter was quality as well.

Great goal.

Goal of the decade? It is almost a silly question because over 10 years there are always go to be 10 - 20 goals that have some sort of claim.

My guess is that if you could get consensus on the best 20 goals of the decade and then get the public to vote the best, Buddy's would come in the top 5 right now.

Over time it may slip down the list a bit as people get over the immediate euphoria and dodging, freaky goals tend to have a bit more WOW factor.

But I would say it is in the top 10 best running goals of all time IMHO.
