Salter was pretty poor. Could have taken initiative and driven himself up the ground :p
Poor Salts hasnt played a game since round 21 (august 21st - 5 weeks ago) and has been injured and had next to no training.
In fact he wasnt looking at playing at all in the SANFL except for the Eagles unusual high rate of injuries in the last week

not surprised he had a shit game... yet still kicked a couple

Yeah that news is buried back a bit in this thread. Monty was on AA a little while back and said he had a chat with Matt after Brett and Carlton parted ways (before the Prelim Finals I think) but there hadn't been any formal interview (that news is nearly a couple of weeks old now - altho MR only mentioned it yesterday in two articles).

Looks like we are going to get the "dregs' of what's left by the looks, I can't believe how far our reputation has dropped in the scheme of things over the last 4 years :(

I don't know that he has had much to do with anything down there in terms of list building. Didn't he start about the same time that Geelong started drafting superstars like Kane Tenace, and virtually stopped participating in trade week?

He fills the same role as Rhode, but IMO is better, great experience, respected in the industry and would have very good intellectual property

Balme started after their September/October 2006 review pointed out they needed a Football Operations Manager to take work away from the coach, supposedly a review that Thompson is still upset about and Cook reckons its the hardest thing he has done in 11 years at Geelong. Balme was sacked by Collingwood before he applied for the Geelong job. So his first influence would have been on the 2007 draft.

Monty is new asst coach at the Bulldogs according to Emma Quayle.

Sounded like Monty was probably going to stay in Melbourne.

The two clubs where Port possibly have a strong interest in luring an assistant are the ones in the most coaching turmoil at the moment.

Sean Wellman has joined Team Hird at Windy Hill.

Rucci today is reporting that Port will announce Matt's support team next week.

Haysman on 5CC said the same last night ... said that Matty and Rhode would be talking to some people at the draft camp to finalise the panel ... I'm worried we are going to have a very inexperienced panel?

I would have thought the opposite - there would be experienced coaching staff at draft camp (not sure who Collingwood and St Kilda sent).

Unless you think Matt is doing a Roos and spotting coaching talent among the 18yo draftees ... ;)

I was more thinking that I worrry that we wont have the money or profile to attract anyone decent ... even Choco at the height of his game could only get an unknown in Cripps and his players in Primus and Kingo on board to replace experience in Bailey, Clarkson and Walsh

You need to draw a distinction between high-profile and decent. We might wind up attracting people without a big profile, but that doesn't mean they do not understand the nuances and requirements of the particular line they will be managing and how it fits with the club's overall gameplan. That can only be determined by on-field performance. Proof of the pudding and all that.

I would hope that we are working hard to attract assistant coaches with experience, especially outside of Chocoworld.

yep - that's all we would expect as first point

Experience like Clarkson? He was an assistant coach for under two years at Port, with his only previous experience at SANFL level.

I was actually comparing three in with three out how much experience for Cripps, Kingo and Primus? also add the much vaunted Tiny McInness?

Has probably been said and even attempted numerous times before, but we should have a fair crack at Roy Laird. I don't care if he's scared of flying, we can just drug him so he won't be conscious during flights.

Pay for pilots lessons, most of the issues control freaks have with planes is not knowing what is happening. I have the same issues when my wife is driving.

Camporeale has three years experience at Essendon as an assistant. Not sure that working under Knights is a good recommendation though.

He was primarily their midfield coach. From my recollection Knights focus was on attacking football and held the view that the defensive side could be worked on later in the development of the side.

Given that we want to stop conceding runs of goals against us, what could Camporeale bring to the table?

I'm not saying I'd be opposed to this appointment but I would like to be reassured on this point.

(I'm also awaiting an outburst from Eddie Woloschek should this happen. :D )
