We're doing a great job of surrounding a first time head coach (put aside the 7 games care taker role) with quality or proven assistants at the moment. Hopefully there are names in the works we are unaware of.

Yeah there are names, they are the people who can't find a job elsewhere?

There was supposed to be an announcement on assistant on Tuesday and now that's been pushed out another 2 weeks.

Ford I am sure you are as disappointed as I :)

I think we need to go within as noone outside wants to come here :) Russel, Jack, I hear Choco hasn' got a job yet? :)

If we could keep Dean Laidley on as a consultant and get say Brendan McCartney in as senior assistant (and the Geelong process might be why we've pushed our announcements back) that wouldn't be a bad result. One more assistant and an additional development coach and we're set.

A senior assistant from a side with a recent winning culture is desirable. :thumbsu:

Rhode was on 5CC tonight, talking about trades and was asked about our coaching staff. He indicated that Kingsley is likely to be offerred a new contract  ...

and he also said we would be one coach (included senior, assistants and 2 development guys) short compared to last year ... sorta said we lack finances to do much. He said one more assistant and a development guy to come in then divy up the jobs

He also said that Laidley was pretty sure of getting a gig in Melbourne so wouldnt be with us in any capacity. He confirmed Compareale had been spoken to by us.

... from that I would presume we get a new development guy replacing Trevena, plus Camporeale replacing Primus or Buddha may come into our coaching panel.

I feel sick!!!!

I can see myself taking a prolonged break from posting on BigFooty before I turn myself into a Frank Spencer Clone/b0ydman upon this news.

**** me

are we the only club in the ****ing AFL that cant afford to have a full quota of ****ing coaches!

we are ****ing d-grade

and re-sign Kingsley... someone kill me

why dont we sack the lot of them and Matty can do the whole ****ing lot... we could save a fortune!

Leigh Matthews was discussing expnding coaching panels and thoughs some teams were going over the top - using a more is better scenario ... he thought a salary cap on football departments may happen one day.

powerade- I thought we were giving specific $s for a fottball dept spend - part of the $5mil from SANFL? How much did it costs us to pay out choco??????

Not really fussed if we have only three assistants. Didn't we add laidley last year ? So all we ate really doing is going back to the level pre laidley.

I am worried that with a new coach it's possible that 75% of our new panel are encumbents though - feel we need fresh blood and kingsley bein out of contract presents that chance

I hope spending less on assistants means our forensic SANFL auditor may let us go higher than 92 % of max TPP spend. Hopefully its not just back room retribution from the SANFL, reminding us who is really boss, for us paying out Choco.

From my hot and spicy sauce a couple of weeks ago..........

the club has earmarked more dollars for our fitness/rehab dept. They identified it as an area we have skimped a bit in over the last few years. They have decided to cut back on spending in certain areas to bolster this area in an effort to get guys fit, keep them fit and improve their recovery time. Examples used were Hartlett, Gray and Hitchcock.

At the time I heard this I thought yeah it probably means less spend on things like footballs, polos etc :D but I wonder if they have decided that they will try and spend less on the coaching staff, especially if they can't get a high quality assistant.

Wouldn't surprise me to see us re-sign Kingers :)thumbsd:) and get someone like Camporeale :)thumbsd::thumbsdown:) in as the midfield coach.

Not what I wanted but without the financials to back a policy of increased footy dept spend what can we do?

Weren't we given a few mill to use on the football department?

Yes we were and if this happens it's f'in bulldust!

If Cripps, Primus, Kingsley, Rhode, etc all keep their jobs who has been accountable for the Choco era other than Choco?

This was my concern and reason for wanting Scott. Perhaps the number of coaches would have been the same, but we would have received new blood.

Also we will stay at the bottom and will struggle to bring supporters if we can full spend on and off field football departments!

I think we were 16th in the AFL on medical spend so this makes perfect sense.

Primus is at the helm of our club and Buddha will hopefully have a more prominent role.. I am okay with not spending massive in there, especially if the Medicals are injected with cash. Next year Ladey will come back :)

good point - I'm not quite as underwhelmed now ...:(

Remember we had to pay Choco out of his 2011 contract so that means 2011 footy ops spend has been cut back and Primus will be paid more in 2011 than in 2010. So available funds for our coaching dept - ie after head coach fees has taken a hit.

Laidley opting to leave should release some cash though.

I heard that interview and it sounded more to me that there will be two assistant coaches still to be appointed. The development department will not be getting anyone to replace Trevena.

reading between the lines it sounds as though kingsley will be given Laidleys role of forward scout now that it is a given that Laidley wont be kept.
