Bulldog Members Calling for a return to there Classic Strip

Love it. Love it love it love it. Looks awesome.

I'd also like them to go back to Footscray. Just for heritage reasons. That, and all opposition supports can claim how scummy Footscray supporters instead of 'Bulldogs' supporters. *

* yes, I do realise the irony in a Collingwood supporter making this statement. :p

Despite its basis in tradition, I really don't like how much the royal blue dominates our jumper.

Maybe it's just my mood.

I think this is a great idea.

The Doggies traditional strip is a very good looking jumper and I've always said, even as a Blues fan, that I wish they would revert back to it.

I'm a bit of a traditionalist.

I'm extremely surprised the Lions changed their jumper, which was also an excellent looking strip, into that embarrassment that they wore this season.

TBH, even the away strip looks fantastic.

Get it done :thumbsu:

Also, interesting to read people's thoughts on the name change as well. In 2012 the AFL will have:

GWS (still up in the air what they will go for, but it'll have Western in it)
Western Bulldogs
West Coast Eagles

... all playing home games from different states.

Bit confuzzing for some probably ;)

Should still have some of the recent heritage efforts kicking around the clubhouse.

Take back your club!
Footscray means something. Western Bulldogs means nothing. More to the point for the marketers, it hasn't worked.

Reinstate the old jumper and the real name.

I have been saying this for years. That Bulldogs heritage jumper as per the OP is the 2nd best jumper Ive seen recently (to the Lions Fitzroy 2009 away strip). Its a beauty and I cant believe they use that silly little dog head one.

I have a feeling Smorgan and the muppet marketers will knock you back though, but 100% worth trying.

there is something really awesome about that traditional heritage gurnsey

I just love that royal blue colour on the jumper with the white and red stripe

it just looks perfect !

cheers

Love it.

Traditional guernseys always seem to win out in the end. There will always be temporary fashions and fads, but designs like this will still win out 100, 200 300+ years from now.

Would be a great idea for the club to tap into some of it's heritage, though they should rename themselves to Footscray as well to really wind back the clock :thumbsu:

On the proviso they still have a clash strip as well of course ;)

TBH I quite like both the traditional and the current one. The colour combination is very eye-catching stuff.
As another poster has said the 2010 'paddle pop' Fitzroy/Brisbane jumper is terrible. Bring back the old lion, I say!!
I do hope GWS goes for a traditional jumper look as well, and that the Gold Coast get a more traditional looking jumper too eventually. Their one with the letters/logo on the front is very unlike any other club..

I agree, this jumper or at least the last hooped one is the way to go. Ratty looking Seppo looking animal logos have no place on AFL guernseys. It would be a brilliant move. :thumbsu:

I's support reverting back to the Footscray name as well. Too many traditions have been lost in the AFL push, some should come back, some should stay gone but the names should be as they were.

You can understand a "West" Adelaide or Perth or in local State leagues, but "Western" looks odd in a National comp when you couldn't be more East if you tried. Same goes for GWS. Leave that to the WCE and go back to Footscray.

This is a great, unique jumper and I hope the Dogs supporters get the change through.

I only hope the North supporters follow the Bulldogs supporters lead and push for the royal blue and white V heritage jumper for our clash jumper instead of the sky blue shocker.

The reason the bulldog is on the guernsey is because this is how the club is identified now - not as footscray or western, but as bulldogs. yes, it's a marketing ploy. I don't necessarily agree with it as I hate mascots on guernseys, but that's why it's there.

Another point which may or may not be relevent.....even tho the bands were spaced at one stage, weren't the red & white bands joined on the premiership guernsey?

Personally, I would like the AFL to piss off the white shorts rule for the designated away team, and see some clubs - Bulldogs is one - adopt it within their home (main) matchday strip. Prior to 1924 and while in the VFA, white was their shorts colour but this changed when the then VFL introduced the away rule. Other teams which should have white shorts in their home strip are GEE and NM - the former for the same reason as WB, the latter because they look better. In fact, all 3 look better in white, Imo.
