Autopsy Bulldogs defeat Hawks

Doggies played well.
We had a few too many sore bodies.

Can't be disappointed. It has been such a pleasure watching these boys. Think they did very well this year. And exciting times ahead.
Love being a Hawks supporter.

My mate and I just having that same conversation as we walked to Richmond station, then we had the realization that we should probably work out who was going to be having a GF BBQ, as it's something we'd not been to since 2011! Ha.
Since the 2012 loss to the Swans in the last quarter and courtesy of a couple of small pot plants flying around the deck area when they came in contact with my boot...I have been banished to the local Rosstown hotel in Melbourne to watch our 3peat...Dam now I'll have to stay home GF day...

Was proud to see Bradley Hill was still running hard and tackling right up until the final siren.

You could understand any player going into self preservation mode when the game was out of reach.

You'd even expect it from a player who is likely going to be leaving the club.

He cops it on this board a lot and I'd be lying if I said he didn't play bruise free footy frequently. But he often raised his physicality levels in finals and this series was no different. Full respect to him for seeing it through until the very end.

This thought can be applied to the rest of the team too tonight. It was a disappointing result and a very disappointing third quarter. But instead of letting it blow out to a 12 goal loss the team continued to fight right up until the end of the game. Make no mistake, it is difficult to find the energy to continue fighting once it becomes apparent that the game is out of reach. And the fatigue of our players was obvious in the last quarter. Playing in 4 straight GFs takes its toll.

People can talk about straight sets but the fact is that this remarkable triple premiership team was a kick after the siren away from being in a preliminary final. And both finals they lost they should have put the opposition away when they had the momentum - like we have done for the past three years.

This year was different - the competition is a little better and we lost the best tall forward in the competition who also plays as a bid midfielder - his battle is now more important than football.

Tonight there are no excuses, no whines and whinges - we were beaten by a young team who played with the kind of never say die spirit that we know so well (alot of it comes from our coaching box).

So well done to the Bulldogs - they outplayed us tonight on the big stage - good luck to them for the rest of the year.

We will be back whether in the short term or maybe a little longer but rest assured that when we do come back we will make the most of our chances like we usually do.

Go Hawks!

This out in straight sets crap, pfftt. Kind of applicable if you've won one flag and can't back it up but after a three peat it's a pretty lame taunt. How we we even made the top four after already playing in four GFs in a row was a minor miracle as far as I'm concerned so the out in straight sets thing means nothing to me.

Sad night. We were out classed, something we haven't seen for a while. But full credit to the dogs. I hope they go all the way, anyone but Geelong, what a bunch of stuffed up ******ed people. Love to see them lose the prelim!
I didn't think it was that sad. I felt like a torch had been passed.

Eh it was a fun year, lots of bullcrap wins that pissed everyone off, bullcrap losses too though. I'm actually pretty optimistic for next season for various reasons, we had some glaring issues this year we'll be forced to fix though. Thanks for the service Hilly. And my god I only just got home and saw the stats, Lewy buddy 10 touches? Motivation for next year I hope.

Just got back from the game.
Firstly, so PROUD to be a Hawthorn supporter. What a wonderful period of football we have witnessed over the last few years and I believe THIS IS not where it ends for us. This is just a pitstop moment because the club now demands success. It's in our DNA. This mighty team will return to the chagrin of opposition supporters. Hawks were successful but the football world were sick of us and couldn't wait for us to fall. Well we'll be back!

Observations form the game:
- The dogs were much much better than us. Much better. They're speed with handballs out of congestion. WOW! >> we can't match that at the moment. We're way too slow in the guts. We need to do something about this in the off season.
- Even if Bruest did kick that goal in the second to put the break even further. I still think they would have overrun us. They have/had a stronger desire to win that our warriors don't have anymore.
- Isaac Smith looked haunted out there all game and I think the miss has and will take its toll.
- We're a proud bunch and we'll be back.
- I would love to see the Dogs win the flag from here. They're supporters at the game were so happy and electric.

Game flipped when Breust missed that sitter mid-way through the second term.

The steamrolled us from that moment.

They would have steam rolled us anyway. They were better, hungrier and more willing to win. You can't deny them that. We're too slow in the guts and the toll of 4 GF's in a row have taken their toll on these mighty warriors. It's time to rebuild our guts!

Just got to look at the positives, probably were flattered to even finish in the top 4 and had we lost 2 or 3 of those close ones potentially could have even missed the 8 altogether.

We are rebuilding before our eyes and still managed a Top 4 finish.. That is bloody fantastic

Geelong & Swans have shown that you don't have to bottom out to rebound again quickly.. Throw in O'Meara & TMitchell... Sicily, Burton, O'Brien, Howe all these guys will only be better in 2017. Burgoyne & Mitchell can still offer plenty. Hopefully with the emergence of Brand that can help Gibbo. I will not be surprised if Hodgey calls it a day - really played like a champion out on his feet tonite..

Thank you Hawthorn Football Club, particularly the players for your great achievements over the last 5 years. I for one cannot imagine the physical and mental effort undertaken for this achievement. Being the benchmark for such a long time is remarkable.
I have no doubt, particularly with A Clarkson at the helm, we will be a contender next year.

I'm not denying them anything, they smashed us.

However if Breust kicks that we're flying away and the game changes completely.

Our set shots this season have been pathetic TBH.

Get Dunstall back there ffs

Heartbroken for our boys...but oh so proud.....20 years since we almost became the Melbourne biatches...Thank gawwwwwwwd for Scotty. Since then 4 flags people 4 flipping flags, Runner up in 2012..just missed in 2011 with a prelim..70,000+members and assets totalling $$$$$ to ensure we never go down that path again..The only thing I will miss not winning another GF is listening to the most biased commentary team and others so called experts in the media bowing down to the team they envied the most..even tonite when we 4 goals up the underhanded comments and unbridled joy when the Doggies got on top by messrs Ling..Cometti & Mcavaney made me friggn spew..the lack of review or replays when free kicks didn't go our way...the palpable umpiring decisions (which helpd turn the momentum) & Fkknukcle has been Mark Maclure stating at halftime that %95 of AFL followers will be happy 'cause they are sick of the Hawks winning all the time....Loser..how is that credible commentary......anyways if anyone was going to end our run Im glad it was the doggies..

Love clarko as much as anyone but calling umps out after a loss is scott brother like.

Let his guard down. Umps didnt make any difference. Being second to every loose ball did.

So your telling me that the Gunston non-goal which was a total crock. The diving performance of Picken in the third quarter and the head ducking of Toby McClean; which was is a 3 goal turn around just there had no impact on the game?

It sucked but the Gunston goal was touched. Complaining about what ifs is weak. The better team won. They were better and I don't even hate them for it. This is probably the only time I will ever feel this way.

Exactly. And it would felt a lot worse been overrun from being 27 points down.
They were just too good.

In a way I'm glad our year is over. I can relax now. As long as the "freekIckduckwood" team doesn't win, I really don't give a stuff who wins now, but not the Rats. The doggies would've flogged the cats too. So proud of the players, giving us so much pleasure for four cups in eight years. My thoughts were with you tonight Roughie, we missed you out there all year, but your health is much more important than a cup.
Praying you get over this insidious melanoma.:(
Great sentiment 'LuvMyHawks'........Luv u Roughie you make me proud to be a Hawks supporter...we did miss you all year but footy pales into insignifigance

Anyone else feel a sense of relief? Sure bit disappointed, but mostly relieved. We needed a miracle this year, wasn't meant to be. I can finally enjoy prelims and Grand Final without the stress.

No matter what happens from now on, these Hawks will go down as one of the greats. What a ride, onto 2017.

Hope Dogs win it all, good on em and good luck.

What a run we've had. We were beaten by a team that hasn't won a premiership since the year my mother was born. Imagine that.

Couldn't be an prouder of what we've achieved. Alistair Clarkson built this dynasty from the ground up. Lance's elimination final goal in 2007. Dew and Willo in 2008 flag with Crawf bowing out classy as ****. Heart break in 2011 prelim and 2012 in general when we we as good as any team ever assembled.

2013 with the greatest forward line ever to run out on to the park. 3peat from there.

I'm so lucky to have been a member during this time. Getting to watch a team evolve then conquer all.

Can't wait for the next chapter. Go Hawks!
