Pretty easy just break down the lines.

Midfield - Dogs
Backline - Dogs (AA CHB Lobb)
Forwards - Dogs

But in all seriousness Hawks have a better back 6 with Sicily and CJ. We have more talent on paper but Hawks are playing a good system and enjoying the way they are playing atm
Not sure if the dogs are clearly better on every line other than the midfield.

I think its more like:
Spine - Dogs
Wings and flankers and smalls - Hawthorn

Both play an innovative game style and both play to their strengths.

I'd absolutely love to see a match between these sides right now, given the strengths of the sides are completely different. Bulldog's aerial dominance vs hawthorns ground ball dominance and run. Hawks would obviously lose the contest in the air, but would the bulldogs be able to contain Hawthorn's half forward line for an entire match?

Both sides have great pressure.

Hard to pick a winner. Freo has a similar team set up to the Bulldogs and the Hawks were able to pip them.

Bulldogs are better for this year and probably next. Don't think either threaten the likes of Sydney, Carlton and Brisbane this year.

More star power and talls, Hawks have a far superior coach and better smalls and mediums

Naughton’s been statistically one of the best set shots in the AFL this season (68% at end of June, Stengle leads with 74%). Jamarra’s been far worse with accuracy, 14 more behinds than Naughton
Oh maybe recency bias. Yeah Jamarra isn't that reliable either, I don't feel any of their goal kickers are. Weightman used to be but not so much now. Not sure what his stats are but Darcy might be with some practice. I feel West might be their most accurate set shot? But honestly have no idea, just my impression.

Incredible that Sammy Mitchell is already "far superior" to a 2x grand finalist, flag winning coach.

There would be a lot more Dogs fans on this board that want their coach sacked than there is Hawthorn fans wanting their coach sacked

All alts of Kane Cornes and Damian Barrett.

I mean, one has been coaching for 10 years while the other has been at his club for 2. Of course after time people will start asking the question. Even Clarko was getting the same treatment.

To say Mitchell is better than Bevo, please don’t forget he inherited a list in 2014 that had the captain Ryan Griffen quit on the club. And traded Higgins and Cooney after finishing 14th. The first season he was coach he took us to a final after revitalising the careers of Bob Murphy and Matty Boyd as AA players, after the year prior they were going to be forced to retire under Mccartin. And his second year at the club we won the premiership.

How quickly people forget

If Ryan Griffen didn’t quit on the club Beveridge doesn’t become coach of the Bulldogs.

Sliding Doors moment that gave the Bulldogs relevance.

Should be treated as a hero.

Not an outcast.

Different type of year. We were good all season in 2016 and beat every side except Geelong if you include finals. A few injuries cost us some games during the regular season and we ended up 7th on 15 wins which is unusually high.

The introduction of the pre finals bye is what really saved us that year. We would have been cooked without it.

This is a different season entirely. Our best looks very good but we've been prone to mysteriously dropping our bundle some games.

One good thing is we've knocked off a fair few top 8 teams so it shows we can compete if we end up making it.
There is nothing mysterious about it. When the Dogs lose key players from their structure, they are a shadow of themselves.

Aaron Naughton and Liam Jones are vital components to the structure and game plan and have both missed multiple weeks. Without them (especially Naughton) the structure and game plan is seriously compromised - exhibit A v Brisbane (Naughton out injured), exhibit B v Port Adelaide (Jones out injured, Naughton concussed early in game).

Hawks almost all season without ‘preferred FB and FF

Yeah but even with Lewis injured, we've still got an 18yo kid we got at Pick 55, a 32yo retiree with a bad back who can barely walk, and a 3-club journeyman who nobody wanted. With Naughton injured, what other KPF do Bulldogs have?

ANNNND we've got Frosty.

Bevo obviously has the better resume but Mitchell has got this Hawks side in great form currently.

Uh, Bevo's also got his side in great form. It's not like he took over a strong team, ala Scott at Geelong, and built his success on it. The dogs were in freefall and were a complete basket case in 2014; took us to a final in his first year and won a granny in his second. So, what metrics could anyone possibly use to judge Mitchell as a "far superior" coach?

Jones was out vs the Blues and Cats though.

Bulldogs are the form team at present. They are a scary prospect for any team playing finals with their list and age profile. Can they continue this run as they can be the most enigmatic team in the league.

Geewizz Dogs are still under the radar, many folk can't bring themselves to acknowledge how well they are going. They are a real chance to finish on 62 points, and if form holds up, watch out.

Bevo did have that incredible run in 2016, rarely seen before. He also changed the game forever with the inside and outside handballing system, that all clubs subsequently copied. Mitchell and Hawks are going along nicely, but have they won anything yet?

You mean the rugby style under arm throws ?

And Hawthorn has won the heart of Kane Cornes which is more valuable than anything :p

I agree many handpasses are as dodgy as an Indian beef curry, but still, can you doubt the reverb of Bevo's innovation?

I'm high on Hawks too, they have a group of cheeky, cocky, mischievous small and mid sized players that are causing nightmares for oppo.

I'd like to see the argument settled in a finals face-off.

Dogs have the weapons, Hawks have the mental edge. Dogs SHOULD have the edge for a few more years but Hawks are definitely pushing. Who wins it this year....should be Dogs by 6-8 goals IF their guns all perform but if they don't then the Hawks by 2 points!!

Lol.
