Burgatron's Phantom Draft

Where's Joel the Goal RATD?

I'm dead keen on him now based entirely on your spruiking.

Just because a kid can kick well, doesn't mean he can find the ball. I'd be inclined to go tall at pick 19, but Tapscott would be too good to pass up if he was avaialable. Should definitely go tall with No 35.
PSD has opened up for us taking Thorpe or Hooper.

Intersting that that Temel was also missing from what I could see, add him to Houghton and I would be asking both down to training between now and the PSD/Rookie drafts and tell them the last spot on our list os the prize(yeah I know not a great prize but still).

Yup fair call RATD. I see a hole, but I don't see a giant hole in the list in terms of key forwards as some believe. We have Riewoldt at the very least.

I don't want to stretch for a KPF at 19, the quality of mids available is just too great to ignore.

If we were to take two midfielders with picks 3 and 19 then we should select tall timber from pick 35 onwards! looking at these players in the phantom draft they look like squibs, we don't need anymore small fringe players! FFS go tall!!

Sorry D2T, I'm really not keen on Cowan. I know it'd be cool to have a homegrown mate in the yellow and black, but he's just not what we need right now. And as far as I can tell, the club hasn't shown a great deal of interest in him. Although Burgan probably knows more about that than me...

Yeah you're probably right, if it's one thing we need less of, it's good decision makers.

Id take Temel at 44 No doubt
Definately worth a punt there
could be anything.

Agree with you here however.

Griffiths could be anything and if we pick him up at 19 I won;t be shattered. However as you say Stevens, Tapscott, Batsanic all available at 19 I would be grabbing one of them. Personally I would prefer Batsanic or Stevens but I haven't seen much of Tapscott. Also Callum Bartlett is surely still in contention for 19!

Think that 35 and beyond should then go to building tall depth...Hartigan & Houghton would be guys I definitely want and Jesse Smith with a late pick + Thorpe in the PSD for a bit of risk/reward!

Yep i agree, its better than selecting and small midfielder that we already have enough of!
No way. We need plenty of the 188cm, running, skilfull, smart types. McMillan at 44 would be an excellent pick-up from all reports. Why use it on Temel, who most likely will last until the rookie draft? I would probably prefer Barlow to Cowan at 51 though.

Why not? he could be anything, and at the benefit of a late pick, and its not like we need a forward or anything

I'm just saying that there's limited chances that we'll be pipped if we choose to wait for a pick 51+, or possibly hold him over to the PSD and make it a Thorp v Tehmel shootout?

Would certainly like to bring him down, but I cannot see the need to jump too early.

i wouldnt be upset at 44

if we can get him later with our recruiters draft "intelligence"
Than even better
but i wouldnt be worried for 1 minute about going early at 44 personally

Yeah that's fair enough, if he is there at 51 i think we should take him though, don't worry about Thorp i don't think we have a hope in picking him up, too injury prone and Hardwick isn't interested.

What makes you think Temel could be anything? Most experienced junior watchers have said he will most likely struggle at AFL level and at best be an average - good VFL player. Probably the reason why he will slide to very late in the ND or Rookie Draft.
