Burgoyne to Hawthorn Thread part 2

The market is indicating that 1 first round pick is enough to get a player thats considered top line at another club. Mclean for pick 11. Lovett for pick 16... If we pay pick 9 and a 'borderline' player- then we are paying above market demands...

I have a sneaking suspicion that it will be Hawthorn that ends up with pick 16 by the end of the week...

are you thinking what im thinking B1 ? ;)

and also, this: http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/85782/default.aspx

goes against all these 11 + Jamar rumours, and it is directly from the melb list managers mouth :thumbsu:

Im not thinking anything :)- As we've seen with the Lovett trade today things can really come out of left field. What i do know is that based on the trades that are taking first rounders, and names mentioned associating Hawthorn and Essendon- well i can definitely see one player from us commanding pick 16 and no it wouldnt be B1. I love B1, but if he were to go right now (hypothetically) he'd command a second or third round pick imo.

Hypothetically- and i could be wrong- i can see the hawks coming away with Gibson, Burgoyne, pick 16 and maybe a second rounder by weeks end... which would be a pretty fair trade period. On top of the draft picks swapped already, i think its possible we will lose 3 players. Just looking at how things are panning out and what clubs are doing- imo, you can start to identify what rumours are true and what arent. BTW- i cant say this is Gospel, but i do live in Sydney and i happen to work right near the swans... For what its worth- i have mail that says Jolly will go to collingwood for a first and third rounder- that first rounder will then be used in a trade to bring Fev to sydney. It is pure speculation, because its all chinese whispers up here at Fox at the moment- but i can say i have heard that from two different Sources.

Shaun Burgoyne is a level up from the likes of McLean & Lovett. If those guys are worth mid-to-late first round picks then he is worth a fair bit more. Forget the perceived age issue (he is 26, that is entering his prime not the twilight of his career) and the perceived injury issue (one medium term injury more or less ever), Burgoyne would be a great get for any club.

And a 'borderline' player does not sweeten the deal as much as you guys like to think it does - in fact it means virtually nothing. If we wanted any of those guys we'd give you a third rounder or one of our spuds and that would be considered a fair deal.

It is completely subjective as to whether SB is a level up from Lovett. Mclean, ill give you that to an extent, but lovett--- excuse me but you guys wanted him at Alberton right up until he got traded to the saints! My point is about market value based around what trades are happening right now, in front of everyone.

I mentioned 'borderline' players facetiously because it is Port who have deemed our players to be borderline, not the Hawks. You're calling them borderline because you want lewis, or birchall etc... It's all about putting a spin on things to try and increase the perceived hand you're holding... Guaranteed the players we offered were not borderline... We have a great list- and if you guys were offered a gary moss, or ben mcglynn etc you would be very lucky to have them... They'll both be very very handy players and will give more of an effort than the doosh bags you openly refer to as 'spuds' on this forum...

BREAKING NEWS - PA AND HAWTHORN HAVE AGREED ON A PLAYER FOR SB

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a.../story-e6frf9nx-1225783552155?from=public_rss
Port Adelaide's disappointment at missing out on Andrew Lovett yesterday seemed likely to scuttle a deal that would send Burgoyne to Hawthorn.

The initial deal would have seen Burgoyne go to the Hawks, Lovett to Port Adelaide, and Hawks forward Mark Williams to Essendon.

But late yesterday, Hawthorn and Port agreed they would deal on Burgoyne, with the Hawks pick nine and a player going to the Power.

"We and Hawthorn have identified a player we are both happy to trade," Port football manager Peter Rohde said last night. "We now have to come to terms with the player."

It is not known if that player is stillWilliams, or if Port Adelaide has held out for a quality runner.

Burgoyne's manager Ben Williams denied reports that his client had met with Demon Aaron Davey in Melbourne's city district yesterday.

Hmmm, now that begs the question who is the player they have agreed on...
(please not Dowler/Thorp!)

Interesting...did they still go for some that can run off half back? Muston (would be a shame after putting so much work into the kid)? Guerra (going home)? Whitecross (reaks of potential)?
I not attached to Moss yet - hope it's him.

BUT - best possible trade would be we give them Croad for Burgoyne. He was willing to go to Freo so we could get Hodgey, surely he'll go to Port for us....

with quotes from the officials. good enough for me

and yep, who is the player? those posters that reckon they know people around and involved, associated etc - may be time for some phone calls to find out who it is. :)

Actually I hope we duped them into taking Murphy by showing them footage of him towelling up Stevie J in his one good game way back when. "look choco, he plays off half back and he can beat a norm smith medallist".
Then we showed him footage of Murphy against Nic Nat to show that he can fit in with Ports 'Choking' ethos.

As much as you hate Murphy, it would be stupid to trade any defenders considering how little depth we have.

People seem to forget he won Most Improved in 2008, and this year, was doing well in our B&F up until the second half of the season. He will get back there.

In regards to Murphy, I'm kinda wondering now that Gibson is a hawk, if Murphy might be used as a forward. (You know, that lead up kinda HF forward we don't have)

I wouldn't feel comfortable hanging cr@p on Port's form when they belted us twice this year!

I sincerely hope the player agreed to is not Campbell Brown or Mark Williams for pick 9 and Burgoyne. I'll reserve judgment until the deal is announced but I think we would have overpaid for what I personally consider is not an essential requirement for our next premiership if it is either of those two players. I still think we need a quality key defender above all else.

Come on someone must know who this player is.

If it's williams it will be far too much for Shaun. If it's brownie I dare say there will be riots.

Come on lets get serious. Who is it?

The club is bigger than any player, but this is absurd. You build clubs around players like we have around Brown.
