Burgoyne to Hawthorn Thread part 2

Same it just shows how keen they are to get out of their pathetic clubs and come down to the family club and hopefully play a bit of finals footy!

It looks like we have to lose a player on top of pick 9 to get Burgoyne but if we are playing finals for the next few years its probably worth it.

It will be very interesting to see what norf want for Gibson because they are going to rebuild like we did a few years ago so maybe pick 25 would be enough.

north have said they want pick 25 and 41, they dont want anyone from our list. hawthorn will try and negotiate with north and give 25 & 41 for gibson and a later pick of norths.

As much as I hate all players who play for the scum, JK3 reminds me a lot of Jobe, similar build & similar unwillingness to kick the ball. He would be an asset to most clubs. I hope we hang on to him!

Any chance of a rundown of the previous thread? :)

I'm afraid when threads get too big, I give up trying to following what's going on.
Link in first OP pretty hard to give a rundown on 1500 posts..;)

I assume this is footspeed.

Pass... we would have kept Thomson.

yeh I actually think he's better than a few hawks are letting on....

I cant be bothered getting stats but im pretty sure that for a 21 yo he has hardly played as many games as most 21 yo's, only due to the fact that he is behind a few other mids like Lewis, Mitch, Hodge and McGlynn. Potential and talent definitely didn't hold him out and I'm very confident he would have played alot more by now had he not come to the Hawks. So because of limited opportunities and limited gametime, one would think the upside with Kennedy would be huge.

He isn't the slowest player going around and I reckon he doesn't have the worst engine either. There were alot of questions over his kicking when we got him, but this has definitely improved (still does like a handpass, as was mentioned, but as an inside specialist, a good quick handpass is a very good skill to have).

Anywhoo, ask around and I'm sure many hawk fans would not like to lose him cheaply.

BTW, has anyone forgotten that Kennedy is a legendary Hawthorn name and that possibly Josh nor Kennedy Snr want to see him leave the brown & gold? Or has this been covered?

This is slightly off-topic, but does anyone have a link to the trade week rules? I'm interested in the rules the clubs have to abide by, particularly the more obscure ones. The reason for my interest was that JA ran an article in the H/S yesterday re: trade bait. Two that caught my eye were Laddo and A Walker. Either the journo's haven't done their homework (gasp!) or the Heffernan rule has been changed. Can anyone shed some light on this.

Edit. I might add, I'm not being lazy here. I have looked. The only details I could find related to the '07 season, and a write-up on a supporter site - which was excellent, but not definitive.

Either way, can't see any mention of the Heffernan rule, other than to say a contracted player cannot be traded against his will.

Pick 9 and Kennedy is paying way too much for Burgoyne. No way. Kennedy will be a star and presumably so will pick 9. 2 great players for 1 great, but aging player? No dice.

I'm hoping pick 9 will be enough to get us over the line.
If not, Tuck, Mortin, Thorp would be fair. Maybe McGlynn.

Just not Kennedy!!

I can't wait for next week to finally be over...

I agree:thumbsu:

Pick 9 and Mighty Mouse McGlynn to Port would be a win for everyone involved I reckon.

Benny's a valuable player, just hasnt had the opportunity, nor the luck with injuries to shine earlier. I reckon he's mature beyond his years, able to use his brain and determination a little more than relying on natural talent to get by. Hungry, tenancious bastard he is, the same reasons I love Osbourne. Im sure Choko would love him for the same reasons Clarko does. Shame to see him go, but by the same token, it'd be fair of us to help him out and give him the opportunity at another club.

What exactly are Port looking for in a player? Sure, everyone would want a Lewis on their team, but I'd only go down that route if Port were offering us Burgoyne and a pick! Benny is on the cusp of our best 22, and depending on the ground and the opposition on the day could easily slot straight into the starting 22. Horses for courses and all that.

The other reason I'd be inclined to throw Benny into the Port mix is to keep any Hawk out of the clutches of the Swine. They are just maggots, and Hawks should arse them about like we did with Spider, just out of good old fashioned spite. Don't trade, just dump on em. Besides that, he'd do less damage playing for Port than helping rebuild the Seagulls.

What ^^^ he said! He may be down the line a bit, but as we saw this year, sometimes they are needed. I see more upside to him then the other 2.

nothing like a bit of deep seeded anger! :D

I really didn't like the look of Choco on Fox Sports today...RE BURGOYNE.

He did say "I hope we can get him to Hawthorn", however when asked about Lewis he stated "it is up to Hawthorn".

He will request another player, however already asking for Lewis, it is likely to be a player we won't want to give up.

Pick 9 + a fringe player should get the deal done considering he is out of contract Choco.

I think he will trade him, but Friday. I really CBF waiting that long.

Pick 9 alone is massive for Port. As I read it;
  1. Burgoyne wants to leave
  2. Port want him to leave
  3. 2 picks inside the top 10 is enormous which is what Port will end up with.
Pick 9 and Lewis would be the equivelent of swapping Burgoyne for Buddy. Will not happen!

x 1, well said, to the point and hard to argue with :thumbsu:
