Burgoyne to Hawthorn Thread part 2

I agree Pick 9 and Lewis is too much for Burgoyne.

Would you consider a straight swap Lewis for Burgoyne (no picks involved)?

Pros
Burgoyne addresses a position of need
Should get 50-80 games from him

Cons
Lewis is younger
Should get 120-150 gamesfrom him

To me, though age is something people get really hung up with I reckon they are pretty equivalent. Consider that Lewis is being played as an outside accumlator of possessions.

Why though? Wouldn't you rather have Lewis and Burgoyne and miss pick 9?

If Choco keeps insisting on 9 and Lewis...screw them.

throw him in the ND

If we don't get him, stiff...if we do, great.

The thing is, if the deal doesn't happen, all the talk will be Hawthorn being unreasonable to deal with...regardless of Port's unrealistic demands.

well played, I agree with this as well...**** Port Powder if they choose to 'place their heads up their clackers'...

Burgouyne would be a bonus but not if it costs us the earth...

2. Port want him to leave
source???

no one from Port has ever said they want Burgoyne to leave...

in fact its the total opposite... the club has done everything it can to talk him into staying.... but the club has admitted that SB is a stubborn bastard and once his mind is set... its set.... and he wants to leave to "experience football in Melbourne" which has always been his dream, and now that his brother has retired he feels now is the time

Under the scenario of him going to the National Draft.
He may fall to Hawthorn at pick 9 and Port get nothing.
He may be picked up by a team below Hawthorn (even by Port) and the Hawks get access to the 8th best kid in lieu of the 9th.

As much as I hate the system at times (and I'd be spewing if a Hawthorn player was in the same boat) those are the rules.

All this aside I'd prefer to see 9 and a fringe youngster used rather than the risky screw Port and give them nothing approach.
I still hope both parties can put the ego's aside and work through a deal but the above scenario hangs like a storm cloud over this deal.

Well said, Dr J.
Win/Win for all concerned would be a good result.

Cannot wait till the end of next week....

yes i know clubs overrate their own... everyones guilty of it

i know we wont get Lewis.. he is worth too much to you guys
if we can come up with a reasonable trade including Pick 9 and a player such as McGlynn, Dowler, Thorp, Tuck or Kennedy i'd take that
Talk of us getting Campbell Brown is just insane....

i agree the clubs need to work together and get this done
Remember Pelchen and Clarkson both spend a fair bit of time at Port and both have good relationships with Choco and Rhode...

remember Clarko has been investing alot of time in getting Burgoyne to Hawthorn... has been in his ear for a LONG time.... so i dont see them offering absolute dross, and i dont really expect Port to expect pick 9, lewis and brown for burgoyne

i think they will work this deal out in a way that both clubs will be happy

I really want Burgoyne to the Hawks, but what would happen if this scenario occurred in the chance of not striking a deal with Pt Adelaide!

I know we have said we will gain him in the national draft with our pick 9 if the deal fall through, but think of the Veal deal and think of this scenario:

Bombers trade Lovett to Pt Adelaide for their pick 8
Bombers use pick 8 in the national draft to pick up Burgoyne, the pick before us.

If they dont choose that option, i'm sure they could manufacture another deal where Ports pick 8 goes to the bombers and Port gains the Bombers pick 10. I just hope Pelchan is aware of all these circumstances and does not get to smart for his own good, because I'd love to get Burgoyne to the Hawks.

Fair point Birch but again I stress the Hawks end up in a better position in the draft by virtue of Essendon using the traded pick 8 for Burgoyne.

The smart arse response is hey we missed out on Burger but got a better pick for nothing.

The real loser in the deal is then Burgoyne who gets shopped around and doesn't end up at the club of his choice.
Still I'm sure he'd warm to some additional coin and the young Bomber list.;)

well with where Port are at, and where the bombers are at-Port would be borderline INSANE to get rid of pick 8... Especially not for Lovett...Port need fresh blood, more young kids- and believe it or not- they actually do have a reasonable amount of senior players who could help them come on and nurture them through their formative years... Thats why Lovett is linked to the lions i believe- he's really only going to suit a club that believes it is heading towards having a tilt at the big show... He's a player you'd pick up for impact- not to help rebuild... I actually think Port would be salivating at the prospect of having pick 8 and pick 9...

Yeah Port would be more interested in 8 for 10 and Nash (or other fringe player). There is not that much difference between 8 and 9 vs 9 and 10.

It would be a good move by Port if the Hawks are saying pick 9 or we get him in the draft.

I dont think it will need to happen though. The Hawks know that pick 9 and a fringe player is still a great deal and will probably be enough to satisfy Port. All the rest is just posturing.

P.s. Hawks fans keep saying Choco is being unreasonable and wants pick 9 and Lewis. Choco has never said this (I think one of your Melbourne papers did). Choco has said he would like Lewis but never suggested Lewis and pick 9.

i doubt we would use Nash in any kind of veale deal.... if we really wanted Nash we could probably get him for nought in the PSD.. i heard is going to be delisted if a trade cant be done

it wont come down to this any way guys... im confident a fair deal will be done

Those doosh bags on the herald sun website just put up yet another article about the bombers wanting to pinch burgoyne... OMG- that journo obviously has no problem in helping the bombers with their PR campaigns... Its mind blowing at how much repetition gets put out there as 'journalism'... Worst part is the picture they used on the link is of Peter Burgoyne, not Shaun...

Exactly! they're not twins!... Articles like that lose all credibility for me when they show that lack of attention to detail... To me it means they dont know wtf they're doing...

Probably right, but it was Robson not the Herald Sun who stated that Essendon are still actively pursuing Burgoyne. He also hinted Port and the Hawks are deadlocked - not sure if this is true.

Hmm I just stumbled across this article, sounds like Essendon are hanging around like a bad smell. I don't understand why they can't just take a hint, S.Burgoyne nominated US and stated he would be willing to go into the ND if he wasn't traded to us. It sucks for us because it gives PA more bargaining power, so they will demand more then what he is worth, hopefully SB quickly comes out and says to Essendond and PA, its Hawthorn or ND.

Essendon ready to pounce on Shaun Burgoyne
Author: Finn Bradshaw
Date: October 01, 2009 2:54PM

THE Bombers believe they can lure disgruntled Port star Shaun Burgoyne to Windy Hill despite Hawthorn being the midfielder's preferred destination.

Burgoyne has nominated Hawthorn as his preferred destination, but new Essendon CEO Ian Robson today said the Bombers were waiting to pounce if the talks between Port and the Hawks break down.

"There are some challenges between Port and Hawthorn to get that done," Robson told SEN this morning.

"They may well get it done, because ultimately there's a will and a resolve to do it, but we stand as a very, very active participant on the margins of that conversation, and ready because We believe Shaun would be a great fit for us."

"But we also respect that to date Shaun has indicated his preference is Hawthorn."

You're missing the point... its a puffy propaganda piece... Robson could come out and say we heard Port and the Hawks had lunch at Macca's, we know SB doesnt like Macca's- so we're prepared to offer him a free meal at KFC... The information stated in the article has been stated before. It's a journalist surcumbing to the will of a club trying to play poker in a game it's not invited to...

My anaolgy of the Essendon/Shaun Burgoyne situation.

If I put the acid on the hottest bird at a club, and she told me she wasnt interested, and was going home to sleep with the barman, who she had been eyeing off for months, who I might add is much bigger and much better looking and generally a better prospect than I am, I wouldnt spend all night trying to covince her that in reality I am a better option than the barman because that would make me look like an absolute tool.
I would take the hint and move on to the next bird at the club.

Get over it Scum, you are embarrassing yourselves:eek:

Robson was on radio this morning saying the Dons are still after Burgoyne and said that they will swoop if an agreement cannot be reached. The Herald Sun reported that. Essendon are the ones trying to muscle in on this trade and I am not sure shooting the messenger (the HS) is justified.

Well put it this way, if S.Burgoyne ends up having to go to Essendon because of Choco/Rhode's egocentric and arrogant mentality, aka ridiculous trade suggestions like pick #9 + Lewis, then we will at least we will always know the scum were always S.Burgoyne's sloppy seconds. :)

It is a natural part of negotiating for Port to try and force up the price of JB through encouraging an auction. If Essendon offer a much better deal than the Hawks, Port could say to Shaun it is the Dons or the draft. Rodhe and Williams are just trying to do the best thing by Port and I'd guess you'd hope Pelchen and Clarkson are doing that for the Hawks.

Well Ian, this is where you take the hint and **** off.. go stick your beak into another player that is going to overlook you.

I am not sure why Hawks fans are so excited by Robson's comments - they are still in the box seat to get Shaun provided they can match any offer made by the Dons. Chances are he'll be at the Hawks.
