He can stand up for himself on the field, off the field he is bringing down not only the league, but the club aswell.

Well done, finally a sensible response from a Pies supporter, I think Tarrant is a great player, I think this incident hasn't done either player, team or the game any favours.

Right now the AFL could do without incidents like these, I wouldn't mind if there was some banter and that is where it ended. But once it gets to being violent, that is where you have to draw the line.

If 2 blokes are gonna have a fight, and only 1 of them knows how to box, the outcome is a foregone conclusion.

It doesn't matter if he's 5'6", or 6'5", a boxer will make a non-boxer look silly before he pounds the hell out of him.

I'd expect Sheedy's & Malthouse's only concern to be that their player won the fight

HA when the pies have a full team and on a roll they beat Essendon. Have fun jumping up and down about beating an undermanned, undersized team as it wont mean ******** when the dons get thrashed in the finals

just stating the facts

Seeing as though you like the facts so much, why have you failed to state that Essendon had a younger and less experience side on the paddock on Friday night.

Or that Essendon has won 11 of the last 13 matches between Essendon and Collingwood.

I would have thought that with so much spare time on your hands you could have at least backed up your argument with the facts you like so much.

Everyone is definately owned by the bombers, particuarly Port in finals. Shame the traditional beating of the dons wont eventuate this year as Port will be in a preliminary final and the dons will starting fights at Mad Monday after the first week

Cant you read eddie. ohh sorry. Collingwood supporter.
Put your crayons down and try to understand.

Essendon own Collingwood. Nobody claimed to own anyone else, just your sorry team.

Not that hard is it eddie ? All the deflecting in the world and jumping onto the other team you pretend to support isnt going to change that.

Didn't realise he played for St kilda, when'd that happen? but more importantly why?

I know he doesn't play for st kilda.. just thought if we are to AFL clubs as a metaphor for Mark Johnson's actions, as you did with your "essendon tradition" comment.. the metaphor of the St Kilda football club seemed a much better fit.. Clearly I am one to talk about the Saints, being an opposition supporter, I am instantly an expert of the "traditions" of your club.

Penalty speculation:

Collingwood. Tarrent will get a $5,000.00 fine and McGuire will huff and puff on the Footy Show then pass it off as boys will be boys.

Essendon: Sheedy will announce that Johnson was suffering from the flu on Saturday night and he (Sheedy) didn’t see the incident.

Want to revise this now?? :D

Less certain is how Essendon will react. It doesn’t project itself as a good citizen in the way Collingwood does. Your boys-will-be-boys approach might work at Essendon. It shouldn't. It won’t at Collingwood. Nor should it.[/QUOTE]

And what off field incidents have the Bombers let go or tried to cover up??
Really i cant recall too many that have come up compared to some other clubs.
From what i have seen this year the Pies are more likely to cover it up than we are.

Add to that the no show at collingwood training of Chris Tarrant..maybe we can put 2 and 2 together.

It must equal five in this case! Btw, Taz did train yesterday.

Pies star in club fight

COLLINGWOOD superstar Chris Tarrant has escaped punishment for trading blows with Essendon midfielder Mark Johnson in an early-morning nightclub brawl.

The two traded words at the Billboard hotel on Russell St before punches were thrown about 4am on Sunday.

After security broke up the initial scuffle, Tarrant landed a heavy hit that sent the Bomber crashing to the floor.

Tarrant had spent the night partying with a group of Essendon players, including close mate Dean Solomon.

It is unknown what triggered the dispute, but witnesses said Johnson was no match for the Magpie power forward.

Just a day earlier, the Bombers had defeated the Magpies under lights at the MCG.

During the game, Johnson was involved in a clash with Magpie Brodie Holland, which came under video scrutiny.

Collingwood chief executive Greg Swann said the club had spoken to Tarrant about the incident but would not take further action.

"No members of the public or police were involved and it was handled on the night and we've moved on," Swan said. "From what we've heard, there might have been a couple (of punches), but I don't think there was any serious damage.

"It was late and they'd had more (alcohol) than they should have. I think it was just a bit of banter that got out of hand."

Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy will meet Johnson to decide his punishment today, saying the best and fairest winner could expect a heavy week on the track. "It was two blokes having a disagreement. From that point of view, we'll investigate that, but it will be handled in-house," Sheedy said.

"He was out too late as far as I'm concerned, so he'll cop a penalty for that. I can cope with two o'clock because that's when I went to bed. It (the penalty) will be between Mark and myself."

Both players attended training yesterday.

Obvious squib against Carlton last week, knocked over by Rhyce Shaw on Friday night, and knocked rotten by Taz on Saturday night. Ouch! Not the best week for this 'hard man'.

What has Collingwood covered up this year?
Short memory Zeke ? I can recall Eddie keeping one incident away from the media as long as he could :D
By the way you still trying to cheat to win at stableking?

What happens on the footy field should stay on the footy field.
Yep, and what is started in a pub/nightclub is generally finished in the car park.

This sort of thing does worry me a bit though, as a bloke of Tarrant's size is capable of killing someone with a single punch (like Hooksey's fateful last "witty retort" to the bouncer). Collingwood would be hard pressed to replace Tarrant in the short-medium term whilst he served a few years.

Oh, you mean the incident for which Ed prepared and circulated a media release, appeared live on radio and spoke to EVERY media outlet which approached him for comment?

Big cover up, that was.

Collingwood are doing what any club would do with a player of such calibre.

And really, what does it matter, Collingwood aren't playing finals this year.

The group of Essendon players out on the turps I would have thought more concerning. I'm sure the after game recovery doesn't include 4am drinking sessions. Alcohol is probably the worst thing you can take recovering from an endurance sport.

It's been reported that Sydney and Melbourne players were there too. Any reason those two clubs escaped your critisism?

shows how dead serious our players are at being a chance to win the flag this year. I can understand earlier in the season but now? c'mon.

commitment surely must be questioned? :(

No the one that didnt make the footy show and in fact it only got out well after it happened. There was a very long thread about it here at big footy :D

I really haven't been paying that much attention to this so that detail escaped me. But I'd be asking them exactly the same question (probably even more so giving the timing).
