Callan Ward - Part 2 - Officially gone to GWS

Re: Callan Ward - Part 2

Can Ward's mother provide corroborating evidence? If not then the AFL would be unable to take action. Any action taken by the AFL must stand up to potential challenge in the courts by the offending club.

Can you just go away please. You have no right coming in here to discuss the issue of Callan Ward as your club is one of the clubs that is causing this angst.

You may not notice, but we are pretty upset how the immediate future success of our club has been severely affected by GC & GWS.

Please go and chat on your own board because you are only here to stir the pot.

Re: Callan Ward - Part 2

GWS is owned by the league, and it is clear cut AFL sanctioned corruption - other than the odd shake of the head in disbelief, the media have just laughed it off and let them off the hook.

Correct.

Now the media is blaming the Club. SEN 5 mins ago. A doggies supporter phones up to discuss adequate compensation for clubs who need these players more than the powerhouses of the competition (who either don't lose players or if they do it means less to them). Bartlett's response is that it should have been pre-empted & cut off at the pass ages ago by the Club. Then they tell us that a lot of players leave clubs & the clubs get better! Talk about assuming!

I'd like to have heard his response if it had been a quality player from Richmond.

No offence mate but if someone offered you more than double your wage to change company's you work for, you would be gone...

This is their job, although we hate it, most people will do the same job for more money if offered.....

No offence mate, but he's still always going to be regarded as a gold plated little t*&d by us no matter what his weak as p*&s reasons.

Does anyone know what time is Callan is facing the media to announce this?
Does he have the balls?

He will be remembered the same as Terry Wallet Wallace and Nathan Judas Brown and hopefully has the same outcome. No respect from the Dogs and none from AFL followers.

Could have been a legend of the club like Granty, West, Johnno. Poor short term decision.

This one hurts personally more than Harbrow for some reason. I cant remember how I felt when Judas Brown left the club, but oh well, shite happens, we move forward. Unfortunately we don't have anybody to shirt front Wardy enough to hurt him when we play them next year.;) Maybe we could bring out Brad Johnson's golf kart:D

hello will minson

Commiserations guys. It's a terrible thing to go through, particularly heart breaking with such a young prospect. There's little doubt, Ward will be a champion. There's not much one can say at a time like this, but I do hope your club can secure a fair bit of compensation for this. It's obviously difficult to compensate for a loss like Ward, but if you can pick up an O'Meara or a couple of gun youngsters, then it might be a win in the long run.

Footy is turning into an ugly ugly machine. :(

Ward's manager Paul Connors was just interviewed on SEN and said Callan's kept his cards close to his chest and only decided mid-last week and his decision "wasn't based purely on money", he looked at the kids that GWS are going to draft and "was excited" about a new team.

A few questions later Connors was asked "if the Dogs offered him the same money as GWS would he have stayed", the answer?.............................YES.

He also said Callan is currently having mad monday with his Bulldog teammates and will have a GWS media conference in Sydney on Wednesday. Looks like there will be no Bulldog media conference with Callan up front.

Better to not have any Bulldog media conference with Ward in it. He doesn't deserve it. Just nick off ward.

Lets all please remember he is likely to sign a 4 year deal and he is one who is close to his family and the region.

So in four years time when he is again out of contract and the dogs put their hands up to get him back....and GWS can only offer him what we are offering him.....will you all have the same attitude when a 26/27 year old gun midfielder is available ????

TAKE EMOTION OF IT AND REALISE HE MADE THE RIGHT DECISION FOR HIS FUTURE !!! OUR WINDOW WILL BE OPENING IN 3 to 4 YEARS SO HE MAY BE ONE THAT JUMPS THROUGH IT !

Compensation.

A couple of higher draft picks does not compensate for having to go through the whole process again of scouting, finding someone, having the die roll your way that you've made the right choice, giving him everything at your club to make him welcome, nuturing him through the years where you don't really get anything from him, then he starts to become a valued senior player, consistent performer.......and then he thanks you by p'ing off to some soul less place for the cash.

I'm a Club member Callan. That means I'm your (previous) employer. I won't be thanking you for your service or wishing you well either.

Jeez they move quick - he is no longer a listed player on the website.

Geelong did the same thing last year as soon as Gary came out and said he was leving he was gone from the playing list on the Cats website.

Do you really think this would have been a wise investment?

Oh please, lol. :D

That will be a press conference to avoid.

Interesting. That would imply there's not much resentment from the playing group.

Bad luck guys, these expansion clubs are a joke.
To lose 2 good young players in 2 years isnt fair. Touch wood Carlton hasnt lost anyone yet, not for lack of trying by these 2 new clubs.
The Bulldogs handled it well, lets hope he enjoys being on the receiving end of some beltings over the next few years.
