The stats on SP for the East Perth colts game are missing a quarter. If you look the goals scored don't match up.

Sampey played great after a very quiet start to the year. Tom Howlett was East Perth's best forward though, strong hands on him. Could've kicked 6 as well but his kicking was off.

oh yeah, makes sense now. I suspect both those blokes might be a chance of being drafted.

EAST FREMANTLE;

always a quality side, going well even with their two 2006 state 18s reps maston & palmer playing league, youngish side uses the ball well, gets great leadership from their 2006 state 16s venturini, leslie & swallow. will make finals with maston & palmer, good chance without.

CLAREMONT

young and or inexperienced side at this level but skillful and hard running getting good service from state 16s morton, de boar, swift & ross. well led by tough seniors willett and annear. generally uses the ball well but may go a bit wide no quality key foward

SOUTH FREMANTLE

PEEL THUNDER

top colts side past 10 years top draft club may have drained the talent pool for a while ,state quality players breen (playing league) green and senior giving good service wont finish in the finals this year

2007 draft; breen

Just a Subiaco fan's perspective on possible state 18 candidates.

1. David Gourdis (24-11-89 abt 194 cm) CHF/ Ruck Tremendous athlete. Has run a personal best of 10.8 for 100m.

2. Adam Cockie (14-4-89 abt 180cm) HBF/Midfield

3. Ben Grace (10-7-89 abt 190cm) Full Back/CHB

4. Josh Watson (16-6-90 abt 183cm) HBF/wing

5. Jarrhan Jacky (5-4-89 abt 181cm) Midfield/Half Forward

6. Daniel Rich (7-6-90 abt 181cm) Midfield

7. Abe Davey (20-12-89 abt 180cm) Midfield

8. Mark Bellini (4-5-89 abt 179cm) Midfield/Half forward

Not sure how many of those will make the preliminary squad but they are the likely contenders.
David Gourdis should be a top 20 draft pick.

Goudis is already 18, March birthday I think. Cockie would be taller than 180cm by now aswell.

Yeah, last season Gourdis was listed as being born on 14-3-89.
This year it is listed as 24-11-89.

This info is provided by the SFC.

So its a bit confusing but I'll take your word for it.

I'm pretty good mates with Goudis, probably my only mate with a chance of being drafted. But I'm 99% sure the March date is correct.

Does anyone know when the colts play? Saturday mornings?

Yeah 9.15am v Peel at Medibank

By the way, I find it hard to believe that people here aren't talking about Dave Gourdis as a top 20 draft pick.

Anyone who is 194cm, can kick 60m and run 100m in 10.8 must be right up there.

Still, if Melbourne folk are underestimating him, maybe that opens the door for the Eagles or Dockers to keep him at home with a mid-range pick.

A full season of league footy at Subi in 2008 as an Eagles or Dockers listed player. Now I'd like to see that!

Gourdis is interesting. Has an enormous rep - late cut from state 18s last year.

I have only seen him play 3 times - 2 x colts and a trial game last year and he hasn't impressed anywhere near the reputation.

3 times is not enough to make a call but has his form escalated or is his biggest attraction his athleticism.

I haven't managed to watch him so far this season.

Stress this not a bagging but my limited exposure of him leaves me asking for more information.

His athleticism is easily his biggest attraction. Although he didn't go to the draft camp last year, he was tested earlier this year at Uni and broke 2 or 3 draft records. Trent Croad's standing vert leap was one. I'm not sure about the others. But he also takes a strong pack mark and can kick it a looooong way. He can also play in pretty much every position on the field.

I saw Gourdis last week against Perth. He was close to best on ground. As soon as he shifted from CHF to the centre in the 3rd Subiaco lifted and kicked 5 goals to 2 after being goalless in the 2nd.

if you get a chance to see gourdis play take a look, his extreme athleticism has probably been a negative so far,you expect him to do a lot more then he does ,but is like most talls, will always take a couple more years to develop game smarts, moved into the centre against swans and perth (subiaco midfeild were getting well beaten ) past two weeks and was a major factor why they turned a 6 goal and 4 goal defecit at half time into two wins. he's not just fast, great contested mark, recovers like a rover, stands up in tackles and releases the running player better then any kpp i have seen for a long time, would have an effective handball rate ( most under pressure) of 90%, has got a few things to improve on but is looking very good, can only get better, dont be surprised to see him rocket into the top 10 come draft time.
david myers was outstanding in the perth v subi game had 30+ possessions very clever, really knows now to draw the ball to himself took a dozen marks ( most uncontested ) very high effective disposal rate ,all round class player and finally looks injury free will go top 20 good chance top 10

wondering if anyone saw the subi v peel game reece senior's stats indicate he had a blinder, realy like him , could be playing himself into a state18s final squad.
also east freo's james venturini had super stats in a loosing side 20 pos 10 marks 7 inside 50s. anyone know if he played chf. always going to make the 18s squad just not sure where.

Rhys*

Played State 16's in '05, and would more than likely be included in the initial 18's squad this year, and with his former coach Trevor Williams, now an assistant with the 18's, you'd have to think this would increase his chances.

Plenty of leaderhsip qualities, was in the leadership group, with the Peel colts last season, also winning the Coaches Award, and was 5th in the B&F in 2006

How good are Daniel Rich's stats from the Subiaco vs Peel game? 34 disposals and 4 goals 3 in his first game.

Yep Richy was awesome.

The word is he will be elevated into the league side after the state 18's if his form holds up.

I would say he will be a top 5 draft pick in 2008, possibly No 1.

apparantley state 18s inital squad has been announced.

I understand the clubs nominated a certain number of players initially.

Why wasn't Mark Bellini nominated? His form has been top rate.

Coaches nominate players but that does not confine the selectors to those names. If they see something they like they can select them in the squad.

They use the coach lists to give them a guide on who to look for when they start observing pre season and home and away games.
